NFL Power Rankings Week 12: Tom Brady Outshines Peyton Manning in Patriots Win
Week 11 was the first non-bye week of the season, loaded with 16 games of NFL action, and it sure did not disappoint.
From the Giants-Eagles NFC East rivalry game, to the battle between two of the league's best quarterbacks, in Peyton Manning and Tom Brady, this week in the National Football League may have been the most exciting so far.
The best record in the NFL is 8-2 and it's held by three teams, the New York Jets, Atlanta Falcons, and New England Patriots. Who's number one? Take a look.
The following slides are the power rankings for Week 12 of the 2010-11' NFL season.
32. Carolina Panthers (1-9)
1 of 32
Last Game:
Loss, 37-13 vs. Baltimore Ravens
No matter who the Panthers put at the quarterback position, they just can't seem to get their act together. Against the Baltimore Ravens, Carolina used their 3rd different starting quarterback of this season. After Jimmy Clausen and Matt Moore going a combined 1-8, the Panthers gave a chance to Brian St. Pierre. St. Pierre went 13-28 for 173 yards, one touchdown, two interceptions, and a QB rating of 49.7. What did Carolina expect to happen against one of the best defenses in the National Football League.
Upcoming Schedule:
@ Cleveland Browns (3-7)
@ Seattle Seahawks (5-5)
31. Detroit Lions (2-8)
2 of 32
Last Game:
Loss, 35-19 @ Dallas
The Detroit Lions have many weapons on their roster, but it seems like they need more time to develop and blossom. They have a lot of young, raw talent that just can't get the job done at the end of football games. Five out-of Detroit's eight losses this season, have been by five points or less in each game. The Lions have a ton of potential but as far as this season goes, the playoffs are nearly completely out of sight.
Upcoming Schedule:
vs. New England Patriots (8-2)
vs. Chicago Bears (7-3)
30. Cincinnati Bengals (2-8)
3 of 32
Last Game:
Loss, 49-31 vs. Buffalo Bills
In what was suppose to be a promising season for the Cincinnati Bengals, has turned into a nightmare. After starting off the season 2-1, the Bengals have lost their last seven games currently holding the longest losing streak in the NFL right now. Terrell Owens' comments after Sunday's brutal loss pretty much sums up the feelings of the players in this organization. Owens told the Associated Press "All I know is right now, we are terrible. And maybe it is-- everybody wants to blame me. It's my fault. Maybe I'm bad luck. But at this point, it's just unthinkable. Unbelievable."
Upcoming Schedule:
New York Jets (8-2)
New Orleans Saints (7-3)
Pittsburgh Steelers (7-3)
29. Arizona Cardinals (3-7)
4 of 32
Last Game:
Loss, 31-13 @ Kansas City Chiefs
After starting the season off pretty well at 3-2, the Arizona Cardinals have lost their last five games. In every game this season but one, the Cardinals have given up 20 points or more. Their offense has not been good enough to keep up with the high scores of the opposing teams they've faced. With two divisional games coming up on their schedule the Cardinals will have a chance to reassert themselves into the race for first place in the NFC West.
Upcoming Schedule:
vs. San Francisco (3-7)
vs. St. Louis Rams (4-6)
28. Buffalo Bills (2-8)
5 of 32
Last Game:
Win, 49-31 @ Cincinnati Bengals
The Buffalo Bills started out 0-8, with football experts beginning to contemplate if they would ever win a game. Well, the Bills have now won their last two games and now look to take down the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 11.
Upcoming Schedule:
vs. Pittsburgh Steelers (7-3)
@ Minnesota Vikings (3-7)
27. Denver Broncos (3-7)
6 of 32
Last Game:
Loss, 35-14 @ San Diego Chargers
The Broncos have a poor rushing attack this year with the 32nd overall ranked rushing offense, averaging 75.4 yards per game. The lack in their rushing game has been the prime reason for their unsuccessful season so far. Kyle Orton has done a pretty good job throwing the football but the Broncos need Knowshon Moreno to start being productive.
Upcoming Schedule:
vs. St. Louis Rams (4-6)
@ Kansas City Chiefs (6-4)
26. Cleveland Browns (3-7)
7 of 32
Last Game:
Loss, 24-20 @ Jacksonville Jaguars
With some easy competition coming up on their schedule, the Browns should be able to snag a few wins with rookie Colt McCoy performing quite well.
Upcoming Schedule:
vs. Carolina Panthers (1-9)
@ Miami Dolphins (5-5)
25. San Francisco 49ers (3-7)
8 of 32
Last Game:
Loss, 21-0 vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
It looks like the 49ers will no longer be able to meet the guarantee that Jed York promised his fans. After the pathetic 0-5 start, 49ers owner Jed York guaranteed that his team would reach the playoffs. The ONLY way that can now happen is if they can beat Seattle in Week 14 and St. Louis in Week 16, as well as win almost every game for the remainder of the season.
Upcoming Schedule:
@ Arizona Cardinals (3-7)
@ Green Bay Packers (7-3)
24. Minnesota Vikings (3-7)
9 of 32
Last Game:
Loss, 31-3 vs. Green Bay Packers
The Vikings have finally cut ties with Brad Childress, which means that this franchise should start to function like the professionals they are. Supposedly the problem was Childress at head coach, so now it's the players time to prove that.
Upcoming Schedule:
@ Washington Redskins (5-5)
vs. Buffalo Bills (2-8)
23. Dallas Cowboys (3-7)
10 of 32
Last Game:
Win, 35-19 vs. Detroit Lions
In Week 11 Jason Garrett led the Cowboys to a win once again, improving his head-coaching record to 2-0. Garrett has been able to get Dallas to play at an extremely high level the past two weeks, but will be tested tremendously in Week 12 when they take on the New Orleans Saints.
Upcoming Schedule:
vs. New Orleans Saints (7-3)
@ Indianapolis Colts (6-4)
22. St. Louis Rams (4-6)
11 of 32
Last Game:
Loss, 34-17 vs. Atlanta Falcons
At 4-6, the St. Louis Rams are still only one game behind the NFC West-leading Seattle Seahawks. The Rams have lost their last two games, so expect them to play with some fire when they head into Denver this week to take on the Broncos.
Upcoming Schedule:
@ Denver Broncos (3-7)
@ Arizona Cardinals (3-7)
21. Tennessee Titans (5-5)
12 of 32
Last Game:
Loss, 19-16 vs. Washington Redskins
Tennessee started the season off with an impressive 5-2 record, but have since dropped three games in a row. Vince Young was injured and left the game in Week 11, but Head Coach Jeff Fisher declared that he would no longer be the starter for this team even if he was healthy because of his lack of discipline.
Upcoming Schedule:
@ Houston Texans (4-6)
vs. Jacksonville Jaguars (6-4)
20. Houston Texans (4-6)
13 of 32
Last Game:
Loss, 30-27 @ New York Jets
The Texans are yet another team who started off this season with some spice, going 4-2 in the first six weeks. But since their bye week the Texans have not been the same, losing their last four games.
Upcoming Schedule:
vs. Tennessee Titans (5-5)
@ Philadelphia Eagles (7-3)
19. Miami Dolphins (5-5)
14 of 32
Last Game:
Loss, 16-0 vs. Chicago Bears
The Miami Dolphins continuously struggled on offense in Week 11, failing to put any points on the scoreboard. They are beginning to fade away from the playoff race, losing five of their last eight games. Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams need to step their contribution up tremendously.
Upcoming Schedule:
@ Oakland Raiders (5-5)
vs. Cleveland Browns (3-7)
18. Jacksonville Jaguars (6-4)
15 of 32
Last Game:
Win, 24-20 vs. Cleveland Browns
The Jaguars came away with a big win in Week 11, extending their winning streak to three games, sitting atop the AFC South tied at 6-4 with the Indianapolis Colts. With the Giants being next on their schedule, the Jaguars could make a big statement around the league if they can come away with the W.
Upcoming Schedule:
@ New York Giants (6-4)
@ Tennessee Titans (5-5)
17. Seattle Seahawks (5-5)
16 of 32
Last Game:
Loss, 34-19 @ New Orleans Saints
If Seattle continues to struggle on in ground game, they will not be first in the NFC West for long. The Seahawks have the 30th overall rushing offense in the NFL, gaining an average of 83.7 YPG. Justin Forsett and Marshawn Lynch must begin to step up.
Upcoming Schedule:
vs. Kansas City Chiefs (6-4)
vs. Carolina Panthers (1-9)
16. Washington Redskins (5-5)
17 of 32
Last Game:
Win, 19-16 OT @ Tennessee Titans
The Redskins earned a win they desperately needed in Week 11 against the Tennessee Titans in overtime. The win puts them only two games behind the NFC East-leading Philadelphia Eagles. With nothing but difficult games remaining on their schedule, the Redskins will have to play there best football for the rest of the season if they want to reach the postseason.
Upcoming Schedule:
vs. Minnesota Vikings (3-7)
@ New York Giants (6-4)
15. Oakland Raiders (5-5)
18 of 32
Last Game:
Loss, 35-3 @ Pittsburgh Steelers
With the loss to the Steelers this past Sunday the Raiders are now second in the AFC West, one game behind the Kansas City Chiefs. After playing outstanding in the previous three performances, Darren McFadden was unproductive rushing ten times for 14 yards. McFadden is a huge part of their offense and when he can't get things going the Raiders tend to struggle.
Upcoming Schedule:
vs. Miami Dolphins (5-5)
@ San Diego Chargers (5-5)
14. San Diego Chargers (5-5)
19 of 32
Last Game:
Win, 35-14 vs Denver Broncos
Phillip Rivers and the San Diego Chargers have won their last three games, putting them right back into the playoff mix in the AFC West. In Rivers' last three games he has thrown for a combined 10 touchdowns and only three interceptions. As long as he continues to air out the ball like he has, the Chargers will be a contender for the remaining of the season.
Upcoming Schedule:
@ Indianapolis Colts (6-4)
vs. Oakland Raiders (5-5)
13. New York Giants (6-4)
20 of 32
Last Game:
Loss, 27-17 @ Philadelphia Eagles
The reason the Giants have remained so competitive in the NFC East is because their an all-around impressive football team. The G-men are in the Top 10, overall, in passing offense, passing defense, rushing offense and rushing defense. In a tough loss to the Eagles, expect the Giants to go on a winning streak for the next few games, reclaiming the number one spot in the division.
Upcoming Schedule:
vs. Jacksonville Jaguars (6-4)
vs. Washington Redskins (5-5)
12. Kansas City Chiefs (6-4)
21 of 32
Last Game:
Win, 31-13 vs. Arizona Cardinals
The Kansas City Chiefs lead the NFL in the rushing offense, with 164.7 YPG. If they want to keep their playoff hopes alive then they must continue to run the ball 25+ times a game, splitting the carries between Jamaal Charles and Thomas Jones. It seems like the Chiefs offense is more effective when Charles and Jones share rushes.
Upcoming Schedule:
@ Seattle Seahawks (5-5)
vs. Denver Broncos (3-7)
11. Indianapolis Colts (6-4)
22 of 32
Last Game:
Loss, 31-28 @ New England Patriots
In a thrilling Sunday night game, the Indianapolis Colts fell just short of defeating Tom Brady and the New England Patriots. With the AFC South being extremely competitive this season, it's beginning to look like the Colts may miss out on the playoffs for the first time in eight years.
Upcoming Schedule:
vs. San Diego Chargers (5-5)
vs. Dallas Cowboys (3-7)
10. Chicago Bears (7-3)
23 of 32
Last Game:
Win, 16-0 @ Miami Dolphins
This season has been somewhat of a roller coaster for the Chicago Bears winning their first three games, losing their next 3 out-of 4, and then winning their last three. Chicago has proven to be a streaky team this season, which is exactly the kind of team you need to be if you want to reach the Super Bowl. These winning streaks that they've put together, show that they have the potential to win three or four games in a row if they reach the post-season, being serious contenders for the Super Bowl.
Upcoming Schedule:
vs. Philadelphia Eagles (7-3)
@ Detroit Lions (2-8)
9. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (7-3)
24 of 32
Last Game:
Win, 21-0 @ San Francisco 49ers
Winning their last two games against fairly easy teams, the Buc's will be put to the test in their next two match-ups against the Baltimore Ravens and the Atlanta Falcons. Upcoming Schedule:
@ Baltimore Ravens (7-3)
vs. Atlanta Falcons (8-2)
8. New Orleans Saints (7-3)
25 of 32

Upcoming Schedule:
@ Chicago Bears (7-3)
vs. Houston Texans (4-6)
5. Pittsburgh Steelers (7-3)
28 of 32
Last Game:
Win, 35-3 vs. Oakland Raiders
After a disappointing Week 10 loss to the New England Patriots, Ben Roethlisberger and the Pittsburgh Steelers made a statement against this past Sunday against the Oakland Raiders. Big Ben has a great game throwing 18-29 for 275 yards, three touchdowns, zero interceptins and a 127.8 QB rating. If Roethlisberger can continue to play at this high level then the Steelers will be a very hard team to defeat.
Upcoming Schedule:
@ Buffalo Bills (2-8)
@ Baltimore Ravens (7-3)
4. Baltimore Ravens (7-3)
29 of 32
Last Game:
Win, 37-13 @ Carolina Panthers
After crushing the pitiful Carolina Panthers in Week 11, the Baltimore Ravens quite possibly have the toughest remaining schedule in the entire NFL. If the Ravens can win the last three of their divisional games, then they should cruise into the playoffs with no problem. Easier said than done but they have already beaten the Steelers and Browns earlier in the year, losing to the Bengals by only five points. If your a Ravens fan this could be a Super Bowl season with the offense starting to gain some serious chemistry.
Upcoming Schedule:
vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (7-3)

The New York Jets are one of the cockiest teams in football, but it's for good reason. Last season with a rookie quarterback they made it to the AFC championship game. This year their goal is nothing short of the Super Bowl, which they have made pretty obvious. With not too hard of a schedule remaining, full of teams they have already beaten, it is safe to say that the New York Jets will be making the postseason this year, which will create a very exciting playoff experience for all fans of football.
