WWE Survivor Series Results: 10 Things We Learned From Natalya's Win

Leva LiesNov 22, 2010

Well Bleachers, Survivor Series has come and gone once again, and now, we’re left asking and answering questions on the events that have taken place this year.

While the Divas Championship match might not be deemed as important as John Cena’s firing, an amazing thing took place last night: Natalya Neidhart finally became the WWE Divas Champion. Overcoming all odds (a two-on-one handicap match), the only woman to ever be trained in the infamous Hart Dungeon and daughter of Jim ‘The Anvil’ Neidhart, defeated LayCool after an almost four month feud for the Butterfly belt.

And now the expected stream of B/R articles based on the PPV begin—what are the 10 things we learned from Natalya’s victory?

Beth Phoenix Is Back!

1 of 10

Like many prognosticated, Beth Phoenix returned to the WWE last night after being put on the shelf for several months with a torn ACL.

Following Natalya’s win, LayCool tried to fight back by attacking her. Just as Michelle was gearing up to smack Natalya in the face with her new championship belt, The Glamazon’s music hit and the crowd erupted. Beth Phoenix charged to the ring and cleared house, before joining Natalya in what was the most emotional celebration for the Divas Championship since Jillian’s five minute reign.

This is probably one of the main things people were talking about following Natalya’s win, and we’re left wondering how it’s all going to go down.

By the looks of things, Beth is face and will most likely team up with Natalya to take LayCool down, but who’s to say further down the line, she won’t turn against her?  Maybe the WWE will give us the Beth/Natalya match we’ve all been asking for at Wrestlemania?

Natalya and Beth Phoenix Are Going To Be the Trish/Lita of This Generation

2 of 10

As I mentioned before, the celebration Nattie and Beth shared was truly beautiful. The pair are friends outside of the ring, Striker mentioned that they trained together and it shows they have some serious chemistry.

Similar to Trish and Lita who had some of the strongest chemistry—whether they were on the same team or against each other—I have ever seen in the WWE, between men or women.

Beth and Natalya are also two of the most over people on the roster. In their few years with the company, they have reached astounding levels of popularity, and it doesn’t hurt that they are two of the best women in the ring right now.

I have a feeling that these two are going to have a long WWE relationship with each other, going from an alliance to feuding and through face/heel turns, much like Trish and Lita. The WWE are also very high on them, showing they would probably love to make such a thing happen.

Who knows, these two ladies could even make the Divas division look important again!

The WWE Are High on Natalya

3 of 10

Continuing on from that point, Survivor Series showed that the WWE count Natalya as one of the few Divas they have real respect for. After all, how often is it that we see another woman more dominant than Michelle, let alone actually dominating her?

Letting Natalya win a handicap match against Layla and Mrs Undertaker proves that they are eager to push her to the high heavens, especially since she made McCool tap out to the Sharpshooter in mere seconds.

Whether it’s down to her heritage or just her wrestling skill and dedication to the business alone, they are doing exactly what they should be with her, which is difficult to say about any current Superstar, let alone a Diva. She’s at the top of the Diva food chain, where she should be, and she’s been booked to look extremely dominant lately.

I believe this shows that they are going to give her a good, lengthy reign with the belt, probably letting her hold it until she eventually drops it to Beth Phoenix. I doubt LayCool are going to get the Butterfly back anytime soon.

Maybe they ARE listening to us.

Natalya Is an Amazing Worker

4 of 10

Well, maybe we already knew that. But for those of you that didn’t, here’s your solid proof. At Sunday’s Survivor Series, Natalya sold incredibly; displayed a great move set; showed charisma throughout and looked as good as ever, despite the odds working against her.

One thing I’ve always known Nattie for is making her opponents look 10 times better than they are by making their moves look as if they REALLY hurt and affected her. Most say she can carry any woman on the roster to a great match, and despite Layla and Michelle McCool not really needing much carrying, she made them look almost amazing.

Week after week, we witness the Anvilette showing off impressive moves, and Sunday was no different.

Despite being dominated for a lot of the match, Nattie showed off some brilliant offence ranging from suplexes, clotheslines and even a lot of speedy grappling, not very common for somebody built like her.

Many Superstars, past and present, have referred to Natalya as being one of the best female wrestlers on the roster, but she has proven time and time again to be as impressive as several of the men in the locker room.

A Laycool-Beth/Natalya feud is imminent

5 of 10

It’s all there and set up, just waiting to happen. LayCool versus Beth/Natalya.

LayCool were the ones to put Beth on the shelf for most of this year, and now that she’s back, she’ll most likely want revenge. Saving Natalya from an attack from the Flawless Ones shows that there is a strong friendship between the two women, one that will most likely be used to take on the two women that have dominated the Divas Division for over a year.

Who better to do it than two of the best and most popular ladies on the roster?

Layla and Natalya Work Very Well Together!

6 of 10

When you think about Layla’s best ring work, her many matches with Natalya probably spring to mind. It could be a lot to do with Nattie’s ability to lead most to a good match, but you cannot count out Layla either.

She’s improved greatly recently and has definitely earned her spot on the roster. In fact, I see her as one of the most improved of the year.

This could be due to being teamed with Michelle McCool for so long, or having many matches with the most skilled ladies on the roster like Natalya, Melina and Beth Phoenix. Working with the best gives you a massive advantage over other people, and Layla definitely has that advantage.

More to the point, Layla and Natalya have some really good chemistry in the ring with each other. It seems as if whenever they both get into it with each other, there’s an explosion of charisma that makes their matches just a bit more believable.

Natalya Is the Most Deserving Divas Champion Ever

7 of 10

Watching Nattie’s reaction to winning the Divas Championship at Survivor Series truly brought a smile to my face. There was nothing scripted or false about her emotion, it was extremely genuine and just plain heart warming.

She brought more prestige to oft criticised Butterfly Belt than it had ever seen in its history for two reasons: One, because she is, quite frankly, the most talented woman to ever hold it, and two, because she really worked her way up to earn it and she honestly does deserve to be holding it.

Regardless of what you think about the title and how lacking it is in importance/prestige, Natalya held that title with pride, as if it was the World Heavyweight Championship or even the Women’s Championship (before LayCool took away most of its prestige).

I still hold the belief that Nattie should have been one of the women to hold the Women’s Championship, but if the Diva’s Championship is the best we can get, I can honestly say there has never been a more deserving champion.

The other title holders include Michelle McCool, Maryse, Eve, Alicia Fox, Jillian Hall, Mickie James and Melina. The only other woman who truly matches Natalya in wrestling skill alone is Jillian Hall, but I think  we can all agree that Nattie is a harder worker than anyone.

Maybe The WWE Do Care a Little About The Women On The Roster

8 of 10

Though the women barely got ten minutes, LayCool and Natalya still put on one great match! Natalya’s great selling made both Layla and Michelle look stronger and more dominant than ever, but the match still managed to be a solid back and forth bout without a botch or any sloppy moves.

Making Natalya, one of the best and most over on the roster, Divas champion shows they are putting consideration into our thoughts and opinions.

The fact that she is not a model hired to wrestle shows that they still find decent female wrestlers important. Who knows, women wrestling could be on the rise again. We’ll just have to wait and see.

Natalya Will Not Be One Of The Divas Cut From The Roster!

9 of 10

This may be obvious, but hey, it's the truth. It is interesting to note that there have been rumours going around that Natalya is one of the *maybes* that are safe from the Diva cuts that are expected.

Last night showed that the WWE are keen on her sticking around and rising to the top.

Natalya Is Going To Be The Trish Stratus of This Generation

10 of 10

Maybe a bold statement, but as Rize says, "Write to express, not to impress." And that's what I'm doing, expressing.

She just won a handicap match against the two most dominant women on the roster for god’s sake, one of them being Michelle McCool who rarely loses. The WWE look as if they are set to push her to the high heavens, just like I mentioned earlier.

She is also the most over Diva going, as well as being one of the best wrestlers, most charismatic, most dedicated and a graduated student of the Hart Dungeon. Oh, and she’s gorgeous, which in the WWE’s eyes is probably the most important thing Natalya has going for her.

Just like Trish was for the last generation, Natalya has the means to become the top Diva for this generation. Some other candidates include Eve, Kelly Kelly and even Michelle McCool, but I do not see any of these happening as Natalya is the only one to have backing from all corners.

The fans love her, the higher ups in the WWE love her and her fellow Superstars love her. Plus, she is the true picture of class, inside and outside of the ring.

Nobody can deny that Nattie is at the top of her game, just like nobody can deny that Nattie deserves to BE at the top.
