NFL Power Rankings Week 12: Ranking All 32 NFL Teams, Where Are the 49ers?
Here are my NFL Power Rankings for Week 12.
After an intriguing set of games in Week 11, we've learned even more about key elements that can help us develop a better understanding of each team.
The San Francisco 49ers got shut out by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Patriots knocked off the Colts in their rivalry game, and the Eagles continued to roll, beating the Giants on Sunday Night Football.
So, let's find out how all that and more affect my weekly power rankings.
32. Carolina Panthers (1-9)
1 of 32
Week 11: Lost 37-13 to Baltimore Ravens
The Carolina Panthers are a complete mess, and their experiments at quarterback have yet to show any glimpse of promise.
Week 12: @ Cleveland
31. Cincinnati Bengals (2-8)
2 of 32
Week 11: Lost 49-31 to Buffalo Bills
The Bengals looked absolutely atrocious as they allowed the Bills to score 35 unanswered points in the second half.
Terrell Owens may be lighting it up, but that isn't enough to dig themselves out of this rut.
Week 12: @ New York Jets
30. Arizona Cardinals (3-7)
3 of 32
Week 11: Lost 31-13 to Kansas City Chiefs
Now that their offense can't make up for their apparent lackluster defense, they're in serious trouble.
Week 12: vs. San Francisco 49ers
29. Denver Broncos (3-7)
4 of 32
Week 11: Lost 35-7 to San Diego Charger
Kyle Orton and Brandon Lloyd have formed a formidable tandem.
Other than that, there's not much to be happy about in the Mile High City.
Week 12: vs. St. Louis Rams
28. Buffalo Bills (2-8)
5 of 32
Week 11: Beat Cincinnati Bengals 49-31
The Buffalo Bills did a nice job in their comeback victory, and boasted the seventh-round pick gems they've found in quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick and wide receiver Steve Johnson. They may be a dynamic duo for years to come.
Week 12: vs. Pittsburgh Steelers
27. San Francisco 49ers (3-7)
6 of 32
Week 11: Lost 21-0 to Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The offense was embarrassing to watch as they managed to only convert three of their 12 third-down attempts and their star running back Frank Gore totaled just 23 yards against the league's second-worst run defense (leading into the game—the Bucs are now fourth-worst).
Week 12: @ Arizona Cardinals
26. Detroit Lions (2-8)
7 of 32
Week 11: Lost 35-19 to Dallas Cowboys
The Detroit Lions have been competitive for most of the season, but nagging injuries have hindered them. They're close but
Week 12: vs. New England Patriots
25. Minnesota Vikings (3-7)
8 of 32
Week 11: Lost 31-3 to Green Bay Packers
Let's see if replacing head coach Brad Childress with defensive coordinator Leslie Fraizer is what this team needs in order to turn their season around.
Week 12: @ Washington
24. Cleveland Browns (3-7)
9 of 32
Week 11: Lost 24-20 to Jacksonville Jaguars
The Cleveland Browns are a few plays away from a .500 record.
Why? Mostly in part due to the great play from running back Peyton Hillis and rookie quarterback Colt McCoy. With those two, they've certainly got solid building blocks for the future.
Week 12: vs. Carolina Panthers
23. Dallas Cowboys (3-7)
10 of 32
Week 11: Beat Detroit Lions 35-19
Interim head coach Jason Garrett has led this club to two consecutive victories. FOX analyst Terry Bradshaw boldly stated that if they run the table, they would have a winning record and might even edge in for a final playoff spot.
Could it be?
Week 12: vs. New Orleans Saints
22. St. Louis Rams (4-6)
11 of 32
Week 11: Lost 34-17 to Atlanta Falcons
The St. Louis Rams have doubled their win total primarily because of rookie quarterback Sam Bradford's impressive maturity and keen instincts.
They've got a bright future ahead of them.
Week 12: @ Denver Broncos
21. Houston Texans (4-6)
12 of 32
Week 11: Lost 27-30 to New York Jets
Did you know the Texans have lost six of their past eight games? Wasn't this supposed the be the year that they get over the hump and into the playoffs?
Are they, in fact, only two games out of first place? Could they go on a massive rampage the rest of the season?
We'll just have to wait and see.
Week 12: vs. Tennessee Titans
20. Oakland Raiders (5-5)
13 of 32
Week 11: Lost 34-13 to Pittsburgh Steelers
After posting three consecutive impressive wins, the Oakland Raiders went back to their dysfunctional ways last week.
I believe they made a mistake by benching Jason Campbell, the quarterback that led them to those three victories.
Of course, its only fair to give Bruce Gradkowski a chance to prove me wrong.
Week 12: vs. Miami Dolphins
19. Seattle Seahawks (5-5)
14 of 32
Week 11: Lost 34-19 to New Orleans Saints
Quarterback Matt Hasselbeck has played extremely well lately, but it's been to no avail.
Nonetheless, they still hold the top spot in the NFC West. If that still means anything, that is.
Week 12: vs. Kansas City Chiefs
18. Miami Dolphins (5-5)
15 of 32
Week 11: Lost 16-0 to Chicago Bears
The Miami Dolphins were shut out by the Bears on the national stage.
Let's see if they can rebound and possibly keep their slim playoff hopes alive.
Week 12: @ Oakland Raiders
17. Tennessee Titans (5-5)
16 of 32
Week 11: Lost 19-16 (OT) to Washington Redskins
Remember when we all felt that the Randy Moss acquisition would push them into the league's elite?
Well he only has one reception on the season.
Even worse, quarterback Vince Young had a major meltdown after Sunday's loss to the Redskins.
All in all, things are not looking good for the Titans right now.
Week 12: @ Houston Texans
16. Washington Redskins (5-5)
17 of 32
Week 11: Beat Tennessee Titans 19-16 (OT)
Quarterback Donovan McNabb followed his contract extension with a huge game in which he threw for 376 yards.
Seems like he felt determined to prove his worthiness.
Week 12: vs. Minnesota Vikings
15. Jacksonville Jaguars (6-4)
18 of 32
Week 11: Beat Cleveland Browns 24-20
The Jacksonville Jaguars are a scrappy team and have somehow compiled a winning record.
Week 12: @ New York Giants
14. San Diego Chargers (5-5)
19 of 32
Week 11: Beat Denver Broncos 35-7
Phillip Rivers is playing at a stellar level and is leading this team back to the playoff hunt. He's truly amazing.
Week 12: @ Indianapolis Colts
13. Kansas City Chiefs (6-4)
20 of 32
Week 11: Beat Arizona Cardinals 31-13
Dwayne Bowe continues to shred secondaries and their rushing attack got back to their dominant stature.
These Chiefs are looking strong, so watch out!
Week 12: @ Seattle Seahawks
12. New York Giants (6-4)
21 of 32
Week 11: Lost 27-17 to Philadelphia Eagles
Just a couple weeks ago, I believed that the New York Giants were the best team in the NFC and were poised to make another run at the Super Bowl.
However, they've suffered back-to-back divisional losses which have me second-guessing.
Week 12: vs. Jacksonville Jaguars
11. Chicago Bears (7-3)
22 of 32
Week 11: Beat Miami Dolphins 16-0
The Chicago Bears are quietly boasting one of the top records in the NFL, and are doing so with a stifling defense. In fact, the unit allows the least points in the league at 14.6 per game.
Week 12: vs. Philadelphia Eagles
10. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (7-3)
23 of 32
Week 11: Beat San Francisco 49ers 21-0
The combination of head coach Raheem Morris and quarterback Josh Freeman appears to be working, and I suggest they run with it.
If they can keep this up and catch some lucky breaks, they could be on the verge of continuing the NFC South curse.
Week 12: @ Baltimore Ravens
9. Indianapolis Colts (6-4)
24 of 32
Week 11: Lost 31-28 to New England Patriots
Who would've thought that No. 18 would be the reason they lost the game? Of course, in his defense, he's the only reason they were in it to begin with.
Week 12: vs. San Diego Chargers
8. New Orleans Saints (7-3)
25 of 32
Week 11: Beat Seattle Seahawks 34-19
The New Orleans Saints seem to be getting back to the level of play that made them Super Bowl Champions last season.
Week 12: @ Dallas Cowboys
7. Green Bay Packers (7-3)
26 of 32
Week 11: Beat Minnesota Vikings 31-3
The Green Bay Packers are firing on all cylinders, and are tough to contain, let alone stop.
Week 12: @ Atlanta Falcons
6. Baltimore Ravens (7-3)
27 of 32
Week 11: Beat Carolina Panthers 37-13
The Baltimore Ravens really imposed their strength on defense against the Panthers, and Joe Flacco is doing a nice job of leading this offense.
They are truly playing like a cohesive squad.
Week 12: vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
5. Atlanta Falcons (8-2)
28 of 32
Week 11: Beat St. Louis Rams 34-17
The Atlanta Falcons validated their superiority as they overcame their one weakness which seemed to be winning on the road.
The triple threat of quarterback Matt Ryan, wide receiver Roddy White, and running back Michael Turner is becoming quite hard to stop now.
Week 12: vs. Packers
4. Pittsburgh Steelers (7-3)
29 of 32
Week 11: Beat Oakland Raiders 35-3
What better way to bounce back from their tough loss against the New England Patriots a week ago than to completely suck the life out of the entire Raiders team?
Week 12: @ Buffalo Bills
3. New York Jets (8-2)
30 of 32
Week 11: Beat Houston Texans 30-27
The New York Jets are a complete football team, and Mark Sanchez is making quick progression as a quarterback.
Week 12: vs. Cincinnati Bengals
2. Philadelphia Eagles (7-3)
31 of 32
Week 11: Beat New York Giants 27-17
There is no player more exciting right now than quarterback Michael Vick.
Week 12: @ Chicago Bears
1. New England Patriots (8-2)
32 of 32
Week 11: Beat Indianapolis Colts 31-28
The New England Patriots have proved why they are the best team in the league with statement victories over the Pittsburgh Steelers and Indianapolis Colts, which are the past two AFC champions.
Week 12: @ Detroit Lions
