Vince Young Out: Tennessee Titans, Jeff Fisher Tab Rusty Smith as Titanic Sinks
Vince Young injured his thumb in the second half of a 19-16 overtime loss at the hands of the Washington Redskins.
After yet another Young temper tantrum in which he threw his shoulder pads into the stands and stormed out of the post-game press conference, Jeff Fisher said Young is done as the Tennessee Titans starting quarterback.
His replacement until Kerry Collins recovers: Rusty Smith, a sixth round pick out of Florida Atlantic. Who from where? Yeah, that's what I said when they drafted him.

Projecting Every NFL Team's Starting Lineup 🔮

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
Smith was controversially drafted over quarterbacks like Jarrett Brown, Jevan Snead, Tony Pike, Dan LeFevour, Zac Robinson, Sean Canfield, Max Hall and Bill Stull.
Push the fact that Rusty will be the starting quarterback for the Titans next week to the back of your mind for just a minute.
Where do the Titans go from here?
The Titans are 5-5 and finish the season with a brutal six-game stretch which includes the Texans twice, Colts twice, Jaguars and Chiefs at the brutal Arrowhead Stadium.
Making the playoffs would be a miracle under these conditions.
So after this season, Vince Young has one year left on his deal. Unless he somehow wins back Jeff Fisher, he will be done in Tennessee for good.
Is the draft plan then to go for a quarterback in round one?
The expiring Kerry Collins is in the final year of his contract and that only leaves the unproven Rusty Smith. That doesn't exactly satisfy the Titans future as a Super Bowl contender at the quarterback position.
Their pick will be too late to select Andrew Luck, they may scare away from drafting another athletic quarterback in Jake Locker, and Ryan Mallett has no experience in a pro style offense, the same problem Young had early in his career.
That Super Bowl mirage that looked to become a reality after the Randy Moss signing has been revealed as a foolish spur-of-the-moment pipe dream.
When you look at the Titans roster, they have no glaring weakness. Perhaps that is the most dangerous weakness of all: when you can't win football games and you don't know what is wrong with the personnel. If it's not the personnel, than is it the coaches?
How come the team isn't executing on game days? Someone is at fault: the scheme, the players, or both.
The Titans can move on in two totally different directions.
One, they can man up and finish the season strong, or two, they can lie down and watch the entire team blow up.
This Titans team has a lot of important pieces of the puzzle that is their quest for a championship: fiery defensive leaders in Cortland Finnegan and Stephen Tulloch; elite young offensive talents in Chris Johnson and Kenny Britt.
It would be a shame to see this talented team go into rebuilding mode after such high expectations.
