1. Vernon Davis (vs TB) – Vernon looks rejuvenated after the 49ers bye back in Week 9.  With Troy Smith able to move around in the pocket as well as he does, Vernon has more time to get open against what are usually slower linebackers covering him.  Look for the ‘Niners to continue getting their big-play tight end more involved as they make a run to win a weak NFC West division.

2. Jacob Tamme (@ NE) – The fact is, in games against the Patriots, Dallas Clark never posted very good numbers.  Belichick knows that Peyton likes to work through his tight end, so he’s always made an effort to clamp down on them in the past.  However, this isn’t the same dominating Pats D of the past either, so Tamme will still see his targets, and possibly the end zone this weekend.

3. Dustin Keller (vs Hou) – Anyone on the Jets team going out for a pass has to be considered fantasy gold this Sunday.  The Texans give up an average of seven receptions a game to tight ends and have allowed seven TDs by them in just nine games.  Keller has a pretty good nose for the end zone, so don’t be surprised to see him wind up there on Sunday.

4. Antonio Gates (vs Den) – Gates says he’s 50/50 to play on Monday, which leads me to believe he’ll fight through it and be out there for the team (but be ready to pull him out for Randy McMichael just in case).  Because he won’t be at full strength, I’m not expecting the world out of him, but Broncos are the seventh-worst team in defending tight ends this year, so you never know.

5. Zach Miller - Oak (@ Pit) – Miller will be back this week and just in time to face a Steelers defense that actually has a tough time with tight ends.  If Campbell gets in trouble on Sunday, which he will quite a bit, Zach could be in line for a ton of dump-offs this game.

6. Jermaine Gresham (vs Buf) – Gresham has been as erratic as you’d expect a rookie to be, but last week his immense talent shone through as he caught nine balls on 10 targets for 85 yards and a touchdown against the stingiest defense in the league against tight ends.  This week he goes up against the second-most generous D against tight ends.  Repeat?

7. Tony Gonzalez (@ StL) – Again, Gonzo hasn’t been the world-beater that he was in the past, but he’s still far too talented to drop much lower in the rankings.

8. Todd Heap (@ Car) – Heap has caught four touchdowns in the past four weeks and will now face off against the third-worst defense against TEs in the league.  He may not be a high-volume guy, but he still seems to love himself some paydirt.

9. Brandon Pettigrew (@ Dal) – Shaun Hill continues to give his big tight end a whole lotta love getting him eight targets last week against the Bills.  Yeah, Scheffler had eight targets as well, but it turns out he’s a little banged up now, so maybe some of those targets fly Petti’s way this weekend.

10. Ben Watson (@ Jax) – The Jags are giving up the sixth most fantasy points to tight ends this year, and coming off a big 10-target, 74-yard game against the Jets last week, he might be in line for a repeat performance.

11. Marcedes Lewis (vs Cle) – Marcedes still doesn’t get enough targets or catches to be worth much of a ranking, but against a Browns team that doesn’t pay too much attention to the opposing TE, he might be worth a look this week.

12. Kevin Boss (@ Phi) – The Eagles have allowed the most targets and the third-most touchdowns to tight ends this year.  Boss has caught a TD in each of the Giants last two games.  With Manning’s underneath safety-blanket (Steve Smith) out again this week, Boss could see another game with a good amount of throws coming his way on Sunday night.

13. Chris Cooley (@ Ten) – Cooley is still getting the targets (second in the league with 68, one behind Witten), but the TDs are still missing in his stat column.  Maybe that changes this weekend against a Titans team that gives up the eighth-most fantasy points to his position.

14. Kellen Winslow Jr. (@ SF) – Now that Winslow got a taste for the end zone last week, let’s see if he can continue to be hungry in a big game away from home for the Buccaneers.

15. Jason Witten (vs Det) – The Lions are actually pretty good at defending tight ends, so with Witten falling off Kitna’s radar the last couple of weeks, don’t expect too much.

16. Aaron Hernandez (vs Ind) – Don’t be fooled folks.  The reason why Rob Gronkowski got the bulk of the work last week is because the Patriots used a three-wide formation against the Steelers to combat their suffocating rush D, a set they happen to use Gronkowski in a bunch.  Against a porous rush D like the Colts, they’ll go back to using Hernandez and look to exploit what the most people, including the Colts, are likely thinking this week about their tight ends.
