Chicago Bears Vs. Miami Dolphins: 5 Do’s and 5 Don’ts For Bears
The Bears have been playing some great football lately and fans hope that they can continue to play the kind of football they played against the Vikings. The Bears have gotten better as the season has gone on and one of the biggest reasons they have is due to trial and error. They have tried a lot of different things, mostly on offense, and they haven’t worked. So when they didn’t work, the coaching staff was smart enough to realize it and stopped doing it.
That has been what has gotten the Bears to where they are at today.
So what things should the Bears do in this game? What things shouldn’t they do? What five things can help them win in Miami and what five things can they do to lose this game?
Let’s find out in our look at five things that the Bears should do in this game and five things that they should avoid doing on Thursday night.
DO: Run the Ball
1 of 10
This cannot be stressed enough. The Bears have to run the ball in order to keep control of it, keep control of the clock and make their offense less predictable. It’s going to be especially important that they run the ball in this game because the Dolphins are a very good pass rushing team and the Bears need to take the pressure off of quarterback, Jay Cutler.
DON’T: Forget the Tight Ends
2 of 10
We saw what throwing to the tight ends can do last week against the Vikings so the Bears should take advantage of this and throw to them often against the Dolphins. This would be especially good if Miami ends up blitzing the Bears like they might end up doing. That would leave the middle open and the tight ends could squeeze into that space, make some catches and then make some plays.
DO: Keep Cutler on the Move
3 of 10
We have seen what putting Cutler on the move can do for the offense so look for the coaching staff to keep rolling Cutler out to the sides and asking him to run if there isn’t anything open. He’s done a good job on the move and has been doing it with success so the Bears need to keep this going.
DON’T: Let the Wildcat Beat You
4 of 10
The Dolphins are starting their third string quarterback in this game and may decide to use a few tricks to help keep things going in their favor. Miami runs the wildcat offense better than anyone in the NFL and has used it successfully many times in the past. The Bears defense may have too much speed for the Dolphins to use this formation but the Bears need to be aware that it could be used and be ready for it.
DO: Pressure the Quarterback
5 of 10
As mentioned, a third-stringer will be starting at quarterback for the Dolphins so the thing that the Bears can do best to keep him off balance and make him make mistakes is get pressure on him. Ideally it would be nice if the Bears could get pressure on quarterback Tyler Thigpen from their front four so that their linebackers can help cover and concentrate on the run. We will see if this happens.
DON’T: Let the Fatigue Get to You
6 of 10
Both of these teams are coming off of games on Sunday and haven’t gotten a lot of rest. They didn’t have their usual Tuesday off and for the Bears, they spent Wednesday travelling to Miami for the game. Players will be tired but they can’t let that get to them mentally. They have to play their best in this game.
DO: Use Devin Hester on Special Teams
7 of 10
The coaching staff appears to have finally figured out that Devin Hester is not a No. 1 wide receiver and that his best place on the team (and the place where he gives them the best chance to win) is on special teams. We saw what he can do on special teams (against the Vikings) so why wouldn’t the Bears want to have someone doing that full-time for them? It’s doubtful he will be taken off returning both punts and kickoffs again.
DON’T: Let the Rush Beat You
8 of 10
Miami has had a pretty decent pass rush going all season long and despite some earlier reports, it looks like their top pass rusher, Cameron Wake, is going to play. The Bears cannot let the Dolphins pass rush get to Cutler so look for them to provide him extra protection in the face of this extra strong pass rush. If they can’t then this game is going to be reminiscent of the Seattle or even the New York Giants games.
DO: Hope That Nick Roach Is Ready to Play
9 of 10
Starting outside linebacker Pisa Tinoisamoa is going to be out of this game with a knee injury so the Bears are going to start Nick Roach in his place. Roach did well starting last season for both Brian Urlacher and Tinoisamoa but he hasn’t seen much action so far this season so he might be a little rusty to start. The Bears cant’ afford any mistakes with their linebackers, especially with the Dolphins using the wildcat from time to time (and they could use it against the Bears tonight).
DON’T: Come Away Without a Win
10 of 10
The Bears have been playing solid football but still leave a lot of people scratching their heads. You hear many people ask just how good the Bears are. A lot of people don’t think that they are for real and don’t give them a chance to win this (or too many other games). If the Bears want to continue quieting their critics, they need to walk away from this Thursday night’s game winners.
