NFL Picks Week 11: 5 Most Exciting Matchups and Their Winners

James EvensNov 17, 2010

The NFL season is in full swing as we start to head down the stretch to the play-offs, yes Jim Mora, I said play-offs.

Just like every week in the NFL, there are some exciting match-ups on this week's card, that are going to be thrillers.  Some old rivalries will be brought back this week.

Here are the five most exciting match-ups and their winners this week.

Green Bay v. Minnesota

This NFC North rivalry has been quite the match-up the last two years, and quite the story-line considering Brett Favre and his playing for the Vikings.

Green Bay comes into this match-up with a record of 6-3 and are coming off a 45-7 slaughtering of the Cowboys, ultimately costing Wade Phillips his job in the end.

Can they cost another coach his job when they face Brad Childress?

The Vikings come in struggling with a record of 3-6 and at the bottom of the NFC North.  They will be looking for a victory to get themselves back on track.  With all the recent hype around Brad Childress, the Vikings went from one of the most talented teams in the NFL, to the biggest soap opera in the NFL.

Who will win this bitter division rivalry?

Green Bay

This game will be a close one, but it will ultimately cost Brad Childress his job.

After a great season last year, there seems to be too much resentment in the locker room for the team to be successful with him as head coach.

The Vikings should go ahead and get rid of him now, to help build on next year.  There is no excuse for the Vikings to be this far back with the talent they have, including the best running back in the league in Adrian Peterson.

Look for Rodgers to have a big game as he once again conquers his past by defeating Favre twice in a season.

Pittsburgh v. Oakland

This is a weird pick, but this game should be a good one.  Both teams come in needing a win to try and clinch a play-off birth.

Oakland comes in with a record of 5-4 and are currently sitting on top of the AFC West. They are led by a rushing attack that is ranked second in the NFL for the most yards, averaging 162 yards per game on the ground.

Pittsburgh comes into this one with a record of 6-3 and are first in the AFC North.  They are coming off a loss to the Patriots and are looking to rebound.  They are led by their defense and quarterback Ben Roethlesberger.

Who will win this match-up?

The main reason that Pittsburgh will win, is because they outmatch Oakland on both sides of the ball.

Pittsburgh has one of the best rushing defenses in the country, and without a running game, Oakland would have to rely on Jason Campbell to score. He has only thrown seven touchdowns this season.

Although Oakland has a good pass defense, the Steelers will still be able to run on them, giving them the advantage in this one.

Chicago v. Miami

This should be good because both teams are very closely matched, but run two different styles of football.

Miami comes in with a record of 5-4 and with a rash of injuries at the quarterback position, with both Chad Henne and Chad Pennington out.  They will start Tyler Thigpen at quarterback and run the wildcat most of the day.

Meanwhile, the Bears come in 6-3 looking to further their distance on their divisional opponents with a victory against Miami. The Bears run a normal style of offense led by Jay Cutler. The Bears' defense is ranked second in the league on stopping the run which could cause trouble for the Dolphins.

Who will win?

Miami

The Dolphins will win this match-up simply because they need it more than the Bears.  The Dolphins are sitting third in their division, and if they plan on making the play-offs they need to step it up now.

Under the leadership of Thigpen, expect the Dolphins to win a big one here.

The Bears should keep it close or win this one if they can limit their own mistakes and turnovers.

Denver v. San Diego

This game should be interesting.  Both teams have talent, but the talent is not translating into wins, so therefore, a great match-up.

San Diego comes into this game leading the league in passing, and has one of the best defenses in the NFL.  This hasn't translated into wins, however, as they have a record of 4-5.

Denver comes into this one with the second best passing attack in the nation, but only has a record of   3-6. They are led by quarterback Kyle Orton, and most recently Tim Tebow.

Both coaches come into this game on the hot-seat, and winning this game would help them off.

But who will win?

San Diego

San Diego will win simply because they are the most balanced team.

Which one of these teams might make the play-offs?  I'm siding with San Diego, and winning this game is essential.

What separates the Chargers is their high powered defense, along with their great offense.

Indianapolis v. New England

This is the match-up of all match-ups.  The rivalry that no other rivalry rivals in the past decade. The Brady v. Manning Bowl. These two teams know each other well.

The Patriots come into this one with a record of 7-2 and are first in the AFC East.  They are a very balanced team who have just found a way to win all season.

The Colts come into this one with a rash of injuries on the offensive side of the ball.  They have a record of 6-3 and are ranked third in passing in the NFL.  They have no running attack, and their defense has suffered so many injuries, it's making it tough on the Colts.

Who will win?

New England

New England will win this match-up.  They will be playing at home and it will be tough for the youth of the Colts to survive in this tough environment in this intense rivalry.

This will surely be another classic Colts v. Patriots match-up, but this time the Patriots will come out on top.
