Doug Baker's NFL Power Rankings After Week 10
I rarely do a power ranking during the season although I suppose they are kind of fun to do. But ranking all 32 teams seems a bit silly. Do we really care if Buffalo or Carolina are the worst teams in the league?
Given the parity in the league after Week 10, doing a power ranking is more interesting because the race to the Super Bowl is wide open.
Here are my top ten teams at this point in the season.
10. New Orleans Saints
1 of 10
The New Orleans Saints have certainly struggled a lot this year and have really been bitten by the injury bug. But they remain a very dangerous team and will no doubt be competitive going down the stretch when players like Reggie Bush and Pierre Thomas return to the line up.
9. New York Giants
2 of 10
The Giants are 6-3 and tied with the Philadelphia Eagles for the lead in the NFC East. But they have a had some real clunkers this year, laying big eggs against the Colts and the Cowboys.
I never know what to make of this team. They have the potential to be great but look lost some weeks. They certainly are in the thick of the playoff hunt.
8. Green Bay Packers
3 of 10
Some have ranked the Packers as high as number one on power rankings, especially earlier in the year. They certainly have the talent to win it all with Aaron Rodgers at QB and Clay Matthews, Jr. tearing up opposing offenses.
Losses to the Bears, Redskins, and Dolphins, all mediocre teams in my opinion (despite the Bears 6-3 record) dropped them down the list.
7. Indianapolis Colts
4 of 10
Despite a rash of injuries on the offensive side of the ball, the Colts continue to find ways to keep winning. Peyton had done an outstanding job with the depleted line up.
The revenge game against the Houston Texans, who was supposed to be their main rival for the AFC South crown this year, was an impressive win that exposed to Texans and showed others in the division that Colts still rule.
6. Pittsburgh Steelers
5 of 10
Pittsburgh thrives on defense. I don't know how opposing QBs look across the line of scrimmage and see a beast like James Harrison and don't just turn around an retire on the spot.
While the defense remains stellar the offense struggles to put a lot of points on the board. But if they keep their running attack going, the defense can usually take care of the rest.
5. Baltimore Ravens
6 of 10
The Ravens have had some close wins and some close losses this year. Flacco's inconsistency keeps the offense from being even better than it is with the likes of Ray Rice and Anquan Boldin in the line up.
While the defense isn't quite what it used to be, it's still a solid group and should get even better as Ed Reed continues to get his game legs under him.
The Ravens clearly have the talent to make it Dallas.
4. New England Patriots
7 of 10
With so many new faces on the team and having one of the youngest defenses in the league, this may be one of Bill Belichick's best coaching jobs to get this team to 6-3.
They have done it by being smarter than their opponents in many cases.
With the loss of Randy Moss the offense is not nearly as potent as it could have been and the defense is clearly very vulnerable. But they wiped out a horrible loss to the Browns last week with a convincing win over the Steelers.
3. New York Jets
8 of 10
As a Patriots fan I have been frustrated seeing the New York Jets pull out two overtime wins against the Lions and the Browns (although the win over the Lions was aided by their kicker being injured).
The Jets have a maybe the best defense in the league. Even though the offense is sluggish at times, the Jets and Mark Sanchez have had the moxie to get it in gear when it counts.
2. Atlanta Falcons
9 of 10
The Atlanta Falcons have been underrated this year, but no more.
With Matt Ryan, Michael Turner, and Roddy White on offense, and a defense with John Abraham, Jonathan Babineaux, Curtis Lofton, and Mike Peterson make for a solid team that will be competing for the NFC crown.
Their impressive win over the Baltimore Ravens should be an eye-opener.
1. Philadelphia Eagles
10 of 10
The Eagles served notice that with Michael Vick at the helm, and a defense that is finally playing up to it's potential, they are the best team in the league as of today.
I have never seen an offense destroy another team the way the Eagles destroyed the Redskins.
