NFL Power Rankings Week 11: Who Are the Teams to Beat?
The 2010 NFL season has been a wild one throughout the first 10 weeks.
No team has really asserted themselves as the dominant team, and strangely, the Kansas City Chiefs were the last undefeated team in the league and the Oakland Raiders have a winning record. Weird, right?
There have been many upsets and surprises this year, and after Week 10 things are finally starting to take shape in both the AFC and NFC.
Here are the power rankings heading into Week 11.
32. Carolina Panthers (1-8)
1 of 32
John Fox and the Carolina Panthers have been absolutely miserable this season, with their only win coming against the San Francisco 49ers. The Panthers sit at 1-8 and are in dead last in the NFC South.
There has been no stability at the quarterback position with Matt Moore and rookie Jimmy Clausen trading starts. Both quarterbacks have played poorly and have not been able to get the ball to their best playmaker, Steve Smith.
The Panthers poor play have them ranked 32nd, last in the NFL.
31. Detroit Lions (2-7)
2 of 32
Sure, the Detroit Lions have put up some nice offensive numbers and they have all the talent in the world. Regardless of that, they are coming off a loss to the winless Buffalo Bills, which certainly drops the Lions in the power rankings.
The Lions have a lot of talent but they have not been able to use it to the best of their abilities. Matthew Stafford has not been able to stay healthy, and rookie running back Jahvid Best has not been consistent with running the football.
The Lions are 2-7 and in last place in the NFC North.
Calvin Johnson and the Lions rank No. 31 in the NFL.
30. Buffalo Bills (1-8)
3 of 32
Although the Bills are 1-8 and have no shot at the playoffs, they have played well this year. The Bills have put up fights with teams such as the Baltimore Ravens, which they only lost by three points.
Ryan Fitzpatrick has emerged as the Bills' starter and has put up big numbers. Fitzpatrick has even been popular for fantasy owners.
The Bills took out the Lions in Week 10 for their first victory, moving them up from dead last to No. 30.
29. Cincinnati Bengals (2-7)
4 of 32
How could the Bengals possibly be so bad? With Terrell Owens, Chad Ochocinco, Carson Palmer and all the big names, they should be contenders right? Wrong.
The Bengals are 2-7 in nine games this season and sit in last place in the AFC North.
The Bengals have shown signs of life but they have gotten away from their true identity. The Bengals were known for the running game in defense in 2009, now in 2010 they are a pass-happy offense.
T.O. has played well but unfortunately for the Bengals, nobody has their popcorn ready for them this season.
28. Dallas Cowboys (2-7)
5 of 32
The Super Bowl is being held in the Cowboys' new stadium so they have to be favorites to make it to the biggest stage in all of sports. Well, unfortunately for Cowboy fans, they have been the most disappointing team in the NFL this year.
The Cowboys went into Week 10 at 1-7 with the recent firing of Wade Phillips. Jason Garrett stepped in as interim head coach and had the Cowboys playing football with some fire. Dallas beat first-place Giants 33-20, which was the biggest upset of the week.
Although Dallas got the big win, they are still 2-7 and have disappointed many. They rank 28th in the NFL.
27. Arizona Cardinals (3-6)
6 of 32
Two years from their Super Bowl appearance, the NFC West champs are in last place and searching for answers. Unfortunately for the Cardinals, their only answer retired during the offseason. The Cardinals are missing Kurt Warner because Derek Anderson is just not going to get it done.
The only positive thing going for the Cardinals is that they play in a weak division. Still, with Derek Anderson behind center, it will be difficult for Arizona to crawl out of last place.
26. Minnesota Vikings (3-6)
7 of 32
Brett Favre has had is head held down all season, wondering what is going wrong? The Vikings are one year removed from the NFC Championship and sit with a 3-6 record and in second to last place in the NFC North. The Vikings' playoff hopes might have slipped away in their Week 10 loss to the Bears.
Coach Brad Childress has been on the hot seat all season, and the Randy Moss situation did not make things any better. The Vikings are struggling and are No. 26 in the power rankings.
25. Washington Redskins (4-5)
8 of 32
The Redskins dropped drastically in the power rankings after they got embarrassed by the Eagles on Monday night. The Redskins suffered a 59-28 loss to their division rivals, suffering their second straight loss.
The trade for Donovan McNabb has not gone according to plan leaving the Redskins at 4-5 struggling to win ball games. McNabb will need to step up if they want any chance at winning the NFC East.
If Michael Vick and the Eagles have anything to say about it, Washington will be chasing them for the remainder of the season.
24. San Francisco 49ers (3-6)
9 of 32
The 49ers may have found an answer at quarterback with former Buckeye Troy Smith. Since Smith took over, the Niners are on a two-game winning streak, including a Week 10 victory over their division rivals, the St. Louis Rams.
San Francisco started 0-5 and have won three of their last four and are looking to make a run at their division.
Luckily for them the NFC West is the worst division in football so they actually have a shot. At 3-6, the 49ers ranked 24th in the NFL.
23. Cleveland Browns (3-6)
10 of 32
The Cleveland Browns have been a surprise in the NFL this season. Even though they are 3-6, two of those three wins came against the Saints and Patriots, both in dominant fashion. The Browns also came within seconds of beating the New York Jets, a game they probably should have won.
Colt McCoy and Peyton Hillis have the Browns playing solid football and also have them ranked 23rd in the NFL.
22. St. Louis Rams (4-5)
11 of 32
The Rams are coming off a tough loss to the 49ers, but their four wins have them among the surprise teams in the NFL.
Rookie quarterback Sam Bradford is playing extremely well and has the Rams one game out of first place in the NFC West.
Due to being in a weak division, the Rams can make some noise down the stretch and possibly win the NFC West.
The fast improving Rams rank 22nd in the NFL.
21. Denver Broncos (3-6)
12 of 32
The Broncos are coming off a big win against the Chiefs, in which they showed they do have some life left. The Broncos 49-29 win has them at 3-6 and in last place in the AFC West. The win keeps them alive, but it is going to be a tough task to make a run at the division.
Kyle Orton is going to have to keep playing well if the Broncos want to win the AFC West. They are ranked 21st in the power rankings.
20. Houston Texans (4-5)
13 of 32
After their big Week 1 victory over the Colts, the Texans were believed to have finally turned the corner to make a playoff push. Now heading into Week 11, the Texans are 4-5 and in last place in the AFC South.
Andre Johnson, Arian Foster and Matt Schaub have all played well, but the Texans have been not been able to close out football games. They lost a heart breaker to the Jaguars on a last minute Hail Mary. Things could not get any worse for the Texans, and they sit at No. 20 in the power rankings.
19. Kansas City Chiefs (5-4)
14 of 32
Are things beginning to go down hill for Matt Cassel and the Chiefs?
The Chiefs have lost two in a row to their division rivals. They lost a tough one in overtime to the Raiders, and got absolutely embarrassed by the Broncos in Week 10.
The Chiefs have fallen back to second place behind the Raiders, and they need to get back on track if they want to win the AFC West. With the Chargers and Raiders playing well, the remainder of the season will be tough for Kansas City.
18. Tennessee Titans (5-4)
15 of 32
The Titans were 5-2 and sitting pretty in the AFC South two weeks ago. They have now dropped to 5-4 after losing two in a row.
The Titans are in second place behind the Colts and a lot of this has to do with the injuries to Vince Young and Kenny Britt. The Titans are only one game out so they are still very much alive.
Their two-game slide has dropped the Titans to No. 18 in the power rankings.
17. Miami Dolphins (5-4)
16 of 32
The Dolphins are coming off a huge Week 10 win over the Titans but still remain two games behind the Jets and Patriots. The Dolphins are in a tough AFC East division, so they face a tough task for the remainder of the season.
The Dolphins have the talent but it's the quarterback position that needs to play well. Chad Henne has to limit his mistakes and get the ball to Brandon Marshall. They brought him to Miami for a reason—to make plays.
The Dolphins rank 17th in the NFL.
16. San Diego Chargers (4-5)
17 of 32
MVP Candidate Philip Rivers and the Chargers are in third place in the AFC West, but they have caught fire as of late. The Chargers are on a two-game winning streak and are currently 4-5.
The Chargers seem to do this every season but this year is different. Why? Because the Oakland Raiders and Kansas City Chiefs have winning records.
The Chargers will need to remain hot throughout the course of the season if they want to make a run at the playoffs.
15. Jacksonville Jaguars (5-4)
18 of 32
The Jaguars have won two in a row and are now in third place in the AFC South. They have the same record as the Titans so these last seven games of the season will be crucial for the Jaguars.
After David Garrard's last-second, game-winning Hail Mary touchdown to Mike Thomas, the Jaguars might have some momentum on their side, and they'll need it for the remainder of the season.
The Jaguars rank 15th in the NFL.
14. Seattle Seahawks (5-4)
19 of 32
After getting blown out two weeks in a row to the Raiders and Giants, the Seahawks are back on track and atop of the NFC West.
Matt Hasselbeck returned, throwing for 333 yards and a touchdown and giving them a win over the Arizona Cardinals. This is a weak division so Seattle has a legit shot at winning this division.
With the 49ers hot and the Rams playing well, it will not be easy though. The Seahawks currently rank 14th in the power rankings.
13. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (6-3)
20 of 32
At 6-3, the Buccaneers are one of the biggest surprises of 2010. They are in second place behind the Falcons and have played very well under second-year quarterback Josh Freeman.
With the Saints and Falcons in the same division, the Bucs will have to step their game up for the remainder of the season.
They rank 13th in the power rankings.
12. Chicago Bears (6-3)
21 of 32
Jay Cutler and the Bears have not played that great, but somehow they are 6-3 and in first place in the NFC North.
It is going to be tough for the Bears because Cutler makes too many mistakes and has been getting beat up all season.
The Packers are right behind them, and it will not be long before Green Bay takes over the division.
Chicago ranks 12th in the NFL.
11. Oakland Raiders (5-4)
22 of 32
The Oakland Raiders are in first place for the first time since 2002. Yes, this is happening.
The Raiders are one of the hottest teams in the NFL and Coach Tom Cable has them playing great football.
The Raiders are on their first three-game winning streak since 2002. Their latest win was their biggest of the year as they beat the Chiefs at home in overtime 23-20.
Led by Darren McFadden, the Raiders' offense has been one of the best in the league and they will need to be in Week 11 as they travel to Pittsburgh to take on the Steelers.
10. New Orleans Saints (6-3)
23 of 32
The Super Bowl Champion Saints have struggled this season and may be possibly suffering from a Super Bowl hangover.
Despite the struggles, the Saints have won two in a row and are only one game back of the Falcons in the NFC South. T
he Saints have a big game at home against the Seahawks in Week 11. They need to win this one if they want to stay alive in the division.
The Saints' so-so play has them ranked 10th in the NFL.
9. Pittsburgh Steelers (6-3)
24 of 32
The Steelers were thought to be the team to beat in the AFC, but not after their 39-26 loss at home to the Patriots. The Steelers shocked the world by giving up 39 points because the Steelers defense just does not do that.
The Steelers are well coached and still remain a powerhouse in the AFC. The red-hot Raiders come to town so Pittsburgh will need to turn things around because they do not want to lose two in a row at home.
The Steelers are in the top 10 in the NFL as they are ranked ninth.
8. Baltimore Ravens (6-3)
25 of 32
Ray Rice, Anquan Boldin and the Ravens have played well this year and are currently in first place in the AFC North.
With the Steelers at 6-3 as well, it is going to be a dog fight for the remainder of the season between these two clubs.
The Ravens travel to Carolina to take on the Panthers so they should not have a problem getting back on track after their loss to the Falcons.
7. Indianapolis Colts (6-3)
26 of 32
The Colts are 6-3 through nine games this season. Most people would say not bad, but we are used to seeing Peyton Manning and the Colts undefeated around this time of year. They are coming off a victory over the Bengals which can possibly give them some momentum.
The Colts will need all the momentum they can get as they travel to New England in Week 11 to take on the Patriots. It will be another battle between Peyton Manning and Tom Brady, and it will be another classic.
6. New York Giants (6-3)
27 of 32
Like the Steelers, the Giants were supposed to be the team to beat in the NFC, and they did get beat in Week 10 by the last place Cowboys.
The Giants fell to 6-3 in Week 10 and will have their hands full in Week 11 when they take on Michael Vick and the Eagles.
The Giants need to get back on track quickly because they do not want to end up like the Redskins. Second-year receiver Hakeem Nicks will be the key for the Giants so he will need to make big plays for the G-Men.
The Giants dropped to No. 5 in the rankings after their loss to Dallas.
5. Green Bay Packers (6-3)
28 of 32
After their 3-3 start, Aaron Rodgers and the Packers are on a three-game winning streak and are now 6-3 and are tied for first place in the NFC North with the Bears.
The Packers are one of the hottest teams in the league despite all the injuries they have suffered. The Packers entered the 2010 season as one of the favorites to make the Super Bowl. Their recent play has showed why and they will need to keep it up if they want to win the North.
The Packers currently rank fifth in the power rankings.
4. New York Jets (7-2)
29 of 32
The Jets are coming off back-to-back overtime wins over the Lions and the Browns. The Lions and the Browns are teams the Jets should have easily beaten right? Maybe so, but a win is a win.
The Jets are tied for first place in the AFC East with the Patriots, but have the edge because they beat New England in Week 2.
Mark Sanchez is playing well in his second season and has the Jets ranked No. 4 in the NFL.
3. Philadelphia Eagles (6-3)
30 of 32
Michael Vick has the Eagles looking like the most dangerous team in the NFL. After their 59-28 rout of the Redskins on Monday night, the Eagles may possibly be the team to beat in the NFC.
MVP candidate Michael Vick has thrown ZERO interceptions this season and is playing out of his mind right now.
Vick and the Eagles have a big game in Week 11 with the Giants. First place will be on the line so Vick will need to bring is A-game.
The Eagles currently rank third in the power rankings.
2. Atlanta Falcons (7-2)
31 of 32
The Falcons are atop of the NFC South and they are certainly for real. Matt Ryan has led the Falcons to a 7-2 record and they are probably the team to beat in the NFC.
The Falcons are tied for the best record in football with the Jets and Patriots. Their 26-21 victory on Thursday night over the Ravens was a big win, and it was due to the play of wide receiver Roddy White. White is having a career year, and he will need to continue to make plays for Matt Ryan.
The Falcons three-game winning streak lands them second in the NFL in the power rankings.
1. New England Patriots (7-2)
32 of 32
After their 34-14 loss to the Browns, many questioned if the Patriots were for real. They responded by handling the Steelers for a 39-26 victory in Pittsburgh. Tom Brady and the Patriots looked scary on Sunday night.
Brady is playing well with no big names, just like he did when he won his three Super Bowl rings. The Patriots play the Colts next week which will be the most anticipated game of the season.
Brady and the Patriots are at the top of the league in the power rankings.
