NFL Week 10 Bleacher Report Awards: Dallas Cowboys Shine, New York Jets Honored
The NFL Week 10 Bleacher Report Awards are fresh out of the mint and ready to be handed out.
This week features an unexpected honor for the Cowboys, honors and dishoners in the Jets-Browns game, and, of course, Brett Favre. There's also a surprise for Manning of the Week, so there's that to look forward to.
Not all of these awards are coveted, but that doesn't stop us from handing them out.
I've slipped into my tux, and we're ready to hand out the awards.
Lady Luck Award Goes To Jacksonville
1 of 14
The Jaguars threw the Hail Mary in a bid to avoid overtime, and against the usual odds, it worked. The Texans failed to bat the ball down and the Jaguars had the last-second victory.
Breakout Player Of the Week: Rob Gronkowski
2 of 14
Rob Gronkowski became Tom Brady's favorite red zone target last night, to the mutual benefit of both players.
Gronkowski ended up with five catches for 72 yards, but three of them were for touchdowns, so it's safe to say Gronkowski had a good day.
Worst Tackling Award: Cleveland Browns Defense
3 of 14
Two times the Browns defenders had Mark Sanchez in their grasp at the end of the game and in overtime and two times Sanchez slithered out of their grasp to make a big play.
Then, on the final pass of the game, three different Browns watched Santonio Holmes catch the ball and run it in for a touchdown, frozen about who should take the hit.
It's called tackling and the Browns should look into it.
The 2008 Detroit Lions Futility Award: The Buffalo Bills
4 of 14
The Buffalo Bills are well on their way to being the first team since the 2008 Detroit Lions to earn a futility award, but then they went and won a game.
The judges still are making a ruling about whether they will have to forfeit the award or not, so stay tuned.
Quarterback By Committee Award: the Miami Dolphins
5 of 14
Not that the Dolphins planned on using all three quarterbacks on their roster to win the game, but that's what happened and the Dolphins made the best of it.
Quarterback by committee rarely works, but it worked against the Titans yesterday.
Re-Evaluating Career Choices Award: Carson Palmer
6 of 14
With Sunday's game as the capper, the last few weeks have shown Palmer just doesn't make a lot of good decisions, and his physical skills appear to have eroded somewhat with the knee and elbow injuries taking their toll.
Palmer's time as a starting quarterback in the NFL may be coming to a close. Palmer has to sit down and think about what he's doing, or it'll be the backup ranks for him.
Franco Harris Award For Staying Around Too Long: Brett Favre
7 of 14
Brett Favre was convinced to come back for one more year, even though he turned 41 and there was no guarantee the Vikings were going to repeat last year's success.
But age finally is catching up with the venerable quarterback, who is making poor decisions on the field and doesn't look like the playoff quarterback of one year ago.
Worst Debut Award: Randy Moss
8 of 14
Randy Moss had one catch in his debut with the Titans. He also had a 33-yard interference penalty.
The Titans better hope this isn't a sign of things to come.
Manning Of The Week: Matt Cassel
9 of 14
Peyton didn't score a touchdown, and Eli had two picks.
But Matt Cassel threw for 469 yards and four touchdowns. That's impressive, and that gets him the Manning of the Week.
Worst Excuse For An NFL Division Award: The NFC West
10 of 14
The Seahawks, in a titanic clash with the Arizona Cardinals, won the heated battle to go to a commanding 5-4 on the year and take the lead in the NFC West.
Who replaced the NFC West with UFL teams?
Who WERE Those Guys? Award: Denver Broncos
11 of 14
You thought this was going to be the Cowboys, didn't you? More on them later.
The Broncos, who haven't had a problem scoring points with Kyle Orton, scored a LOT of points as Orton threw four touchdowns, Tim Tebow scored another two in goal-line packages, and the Broncos gave the Chiefs a loss that may take a few days to get over.
It was 35-0 before the Chiefs knew what was going on, and while the Chiefs may rebound, the Broncos have a victory they now can build on.
Player Of The Week: Mark Sanchez
12 of 14
For the second week in a row, Mark Sanchez rallied his team to an overtime win in an away game.
Sanchez finally is looking like the quarterback he was hyped to be, and the Jets now are in control in the AFC East.
Best QB Sideline Rant: Tom Brady
13 of 14
Whatever Tom Brady said on the sidelines in Sunday night's game versus the Steelers worked, at least on Rob Gronkowski, as the Patriots began marching up and down the field, scoring almost at will.
The Patriots offense looked the best it has looked all season in the second half of the game, and don't think Brady's sideline tirade didn't have something to do with it.
Best Organizational Change: Dallas Cowboys
14 of 14
The Dallas Cowboys looked like a completely different team on Sunday, and Jason Garrett's new approach on the training field and in the conference room paid off big on Sunday as the Cowboys stunned the Giants, beating them in convincing fashion, 33-20.
While it was one game, the Cowboys no longer looked like a team that had given up and looked like a team that wanted to win. While the Cowboys probably won't make the playoffs, Garrett just made a huge statement about keeping the head coaching job into 2011.
