WWE/TNA: Lighten Up, IWC! Sit Back, Relax, and Enjoy the Show!

Montique DavidNov 13, 2010

The Internet Wrestling Community is arguably the most miserable group of fans of any sport in the world.

Think about that for a second.

Arguably the most miserable group of fans of any sport in the world.

Think about this scenario: Colts vs Patriots. A fan sits in front of his TV with his Peyton Manning jersey on, as his favorite team drives for a game-winning touchdown. Peyton Manning steps up to the line and does what Peyton Manning does. He changes the play. Then, after a series of hand gestures, he throws a touchdown pass to Reggie Wayne for the game-winning score.

Here's the fan's reaction: "YES!!! TOUCHDOWN BABY!!! WE DID IT!!! WE WON!!!"

Nothing wrong with that right? Or is it?

Now let's replace the fan watching this game with an IWC member.

"OH MY GOD! PEYTON WINS AGAIN? When is he going to turn heel and fumble on purpose to let the other team win? When will Jim Sorgi get a push? Couldn't he have thrown the ball to somebody else? REGGIE WAYNE ALWAYS CATCHES THE TOUCHDOWNS!"

Funny, huh?

Of course not every member of the IWC is as negative as that, but for the most part, we all feel like a change is needed. We all love WWE or TNA so much for it's potential. We love the what-if moments and suspense that a good match gives us. The rush a live event, and the pure joy we feel when a new, fresh angle surprises us out of nowhere.

We love our pro wrestling. Our male soap opera. We love it so much that every one of us to a certain degree believe that we can do it better. That we can run WWE Creative and have 5.0+ ratings. That we can give the people what they want, and put out the absolute best product on TV every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday night. But ask yourself a question. Can you ever please everybody?

Yesterday I was in the mood to laugh, so I popped in Bruce Almighty.

For those of you who haven't seen it, the long and short of it is that Bruce, (Jim Carrey) is given God's power.

There's a part where Bruce keeps getting all of these prayers sent to him and he's tired of hearing them so he just says "Yes" to all of them. He grants everyone's prayer. Every single one. And he says "Yes, to all! Now everybody is happy." Then something funny happens. Everyone who prayed for their lottery ticket to be the winning one, well they all win a whopping sum of $17. People were pissed. The city's team wins, and a riot starts. So much for giving everybody what they want. Even with their desires fulfilled, it creates chaos.

Then I thought to myself: is there any way to push every wrestler I'd want to push without the mid-card suffering? Is there any way to keep a bona fide main event star out of the main event without him taking an image hit (a la AJ Styles)? I almost feel like LeBron in his new Nike commercial but with a different question: "What would I do?"

Then I realized that WWE Creative is doing what it perceives to be right. Nobody is perfect, and WWE Creative surely can't please everybody who wants a push. Now while I don't agree with every feud, every angle and every push, I can honestly say that it made some stars with what it had.

Around this time last year, nobody bought Sheamus as a WWE Champion and now it's those same people hoping he had a legitimate title reign. Earlier this year The Nexus ran through John Cena and created Wade Barrett as a star right before our eyes. Justin Gabriel has taken the torch and run with it. Skip Sheffield before his injury was dubbed by many as the next Batista. WWE is creating new stars and building towards the future. Isn't that the point?

What I'm simply saying is that WWE/TNA is our "favorite team" in the world of sports entertainment. As fans we do have every right to critique the product and speak our minds, but how about just enjoying what we see? Hate it or love it, we're going to settle in the same time every week and watch the programming, so why not sit back relax and enjoy the show?

Let's be more like the "YES TOUCHDOWN!!!" fan, than the "OH MY GOD! PEYTON WINS AGAIN? WHEN IS SORGI GOING TO GET A PUSH TO THE STARTING LINEUP!?" fan.

After all, we do love our pro wrestling right?
