NFL Week 10 Spread Picks and Predictions
Last week was a poor week, again, with just six wins. I was pleased that two of my favorite picks, Buffalo and Cleveland, panned out.
This week we again are treated to some big time matchups.
NFL Week 10 is shaping up to be a great one with several division games and arguably the game of the week with Pittsburgh hosting New England on Sunday Night Football.
This is an interesting week as there are a lot of low spreads, which makes for a lot of road picks.
Note: Spreads are taken from Yahoo! spreads as of November 11.
Baltimore Ravens @ Atlanta Falcons (-1)
1 of 15
On any other week, I’d give this game to the Ravens.
The home field advantage gives Atlanta the edge on this short week.
Although Ray Lewis is upset about having to play on three days rest and may have an added sense of intensity, I don’t think his defense will be ready enough for Michael Turner.
Roddy White is active and should be able to abuse the Ravens secondary.
Although I expect a high scoring affair, Atlanta takes this.
Pick: Atlanta (-1)
Detroit Lions @ Buffalo Bills (-3)
2 of 15
Both of these teams have been extremely competitive this season.
Detroit is not as surprising as Buffalo as they have greatly improved over the past year, but Buffalo has been playing solid football since Ryan Fitzpatrick took over as quarterback.
Detroit played great football against the Jets, but lost in overtime.
Buffalo also played tough at home last week, covering against Chicago.
Both teams had moral victories despite adding to their loss column.
In a game like this, it is best to go with the best player on the field in Calvin Johnson for Detroit and the points.
Pick: Detroit (+3)
Minnesota Vikings @ Chicago Bears (+1)
3 of 15
Even though the Vikings almost lost to the inconsistent Cardinals, the Vikings defense should be able to disrupt Jay Cutler early and often.
Adrian Peterson is running extremely well and should power his team to a victory.
I would expect the Bears defense to hurry Brett Favre, but Favre has looked much better in the past two games.
This game is a toss up, but I think the Vikings still have some fight left in them. Either that, or they’ve bailed completely on the season.
Pick: Minnesota (-1)
New York Jets @ Cleveland Browns (+3)
4 of 15
The Jets have played rather disappointing football in their past three games, despite winning two of them.
Wins are wins though.
The Cleveland Browns, however, have been playing fantastic football in their past two games, defeating two potential Super Bowl winners in the New Orleans Saints and New England Patriots.
The Jets travel to Cleveland as Rex Ryan takes on his brother, Rob, the defensive coordinator for the Browns.
This should be a hard hitting contest, but the Jets offense will be too much in the end.
Pick: New York (-3)
Cincinnati Bengals @ Indianapolis Colts (-7)
5 of 15
Although I’m not happy about giving up this many points to a Bengals team that could explode against a suspect Colts defense, it is tough to go against Peyton Manning at home following a loss.
Manning has been as determined as ever as he looks to win with a motley crew of receivers and running backs.
Still, Dwight Freeney should disrupt Carson Palmer enough as the Bengals’ disappointing season continues.
Manning strategically picks apart the Bengals defense to cover.
Pick: Indianapolis (-7)
Tennessee Titans @ Miami Dolphins (+1)
6 of 15
Chris Johnson and Randy Moss are all that I needed to know when I saw this spread.
Add the fact that the Dolphins will be starting noodle-armed Chad Pennington, who presents zero threat to the Titans' stout defense.
This spread doesn’t make sense to me, but I’ll gladly take what looks like a freebie.
Pick: Tennessee (-1)
Tampa Bay Buccaneers @ Carolina Panthers (+6.5)
7 of 15
Tampa Bay played Atlanta tough last week but lost in the end.
The Bucs will look to rebound this week as they travel to Carolina to inch back towards the top of the NFC South division.
Carolina has been destroyed by injuries all season. DeAngelo Williams, Jonathan Stewart, Matt Moore and possibly Steve Smith will all be out this week.
Josh Freeman has been playing fantastic football this season.
Tampa Bay wins easily.
Pick: Tampa Bay (-6.5)
Houston Texans @ Jacksonville Jaguars (+2)
8 of 15
Houston’s secondary is terrible. The offense will carry them in this contest.
Jacksonville is not as good as they showed two weeks ago against Dallas.
They have a lot of momentum coming off the blowout win, the bye week and staying home for this division match up.
The Matt Schaub-Andre Johnson connection finally reheats in this contest as the Texans not only cover, but win the road game.
Pick: Houston (+2)
Kansas City Chiefs @ Denver Broncos (+1)
9 of 15
Kansas City needs this win to keep their lead in the division over the Oakland Raiders.
Denver has been up and down all season. It is difficult to trust them with such a low spread despite being at home off the bye.
The Chiefs offense has been improving over the past few weeks and the Denver defense is still as suspect as ever.
Jamaal Charles and Thomas Jones keep the Chiefs leading in this one and Kyle Orton’s amount of passing yards become irrelevant.
Pick: Kansas City (-1)
Dallas Cowboys @ New York Giants (-14)
10 of 15
Dallas continues to let me down.
The Giants are on fire and making a claim to be the best team in the entire NFL.
Still, it is always difficult to spot a team two touchdowns in a division game.
Will the Cowboys defense really let itself get blown out for three straight games?
It is too difficult not to take 14 points.
Pick: Dallas (+14)
Seattle Seahawks @ Arizona Cardinals (-3)
11 of 15
The Seahawks came through for me at home against the Cardinals in the first meeting.
The team overall plays much different on the road than at home.
Larry Fitzgerald and Derek Anderson seem to have developed a rapport over the past two games and this combination should dominate the game this week.
Even if Beanie Wells can’t play, I have enough faith in Tim Hightower to run well.
The Cardinals defense has a lot of playmakers and either Matt Hasselbeck or Charlie Whitehurst will not be able to compete with them.
Pick: Arizona (-3)
St. Louis Rams @ San Francisco 49ers (-6)
12 of 15
The 49ers may be my most disappointing team as I predicted them to manhandle the weak NFC West division.
Instead, they’ve failed miserably.
St. Louis has been one of the best surprises this season. The young team has played great football throughout the season. Rookie quarterback Sam Bradford looks every bit the franchise quarterback the Rams envisioned.
Even though the 49ers are at home out of the bye and coming off a win in London, I like the Rams to keep it close and possibly win.
Pick: St. Louis (+6)
New England Patriots @ Pittsburgh Steelers (-4.5)
13 of 15
The Steelers are finally back home after three consecutive road trips.
The Patriots were embarrassed on the road against the Cleveland Browns, literally getting run over all day by Peyton Hillis.
The Steelers are playing very good football. They have a great running game going with Rashard Mendenhall.
Still, I have to take Tom Brady and Bill Belichick getting points. The team should be prepared enough to keep it close.
Pick: New England (+4.5)
Philadelphia Eagles @ Washington Redskins (+3)
14 of 15
Washington is in disarray.
Michael Vick meanwhile is back and playing MVP football.
The Eagles offense will be too much for the Redskins on Monday night despite playing on the road.
Vick’s improved accuracy and field vision will allow him to pick apart the Redskins defense with DeSean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin streaking up the sidelines.
The bye week doesn’t help Washington as the Eagles have all of the momentum after their big win over the Colts in Week 9.
Pick: Philadelphia (-3)
