Week 10 NFL Picks: Can Donovan McNabb Sweep His Former Eagles Team?

Todd KaufmannNov 10, 2010

With the NFL over the halfway point of the season, the picture is starting to become a little more clear on who the top teams are, who is halfway to either the grave or to turning things around, and who's already put the final nail in their coffin through just 10 weeks of the season.

We've talked a lot about the Dallas Cowboys over the past few days after Jerry Jones did something he should have done a few weeks ago and has ultimately led to where they are now.

Bill Cowher, Jon Gruden and a host of others will hear their names making the rounds in connection with the job opening because, as far as I'm concerned, there's no way Jason Garrett is named the new head coach after this year is over.

This weekend, Donovan McNabb gets to do something the Eagles thought would never happen. He gets the chance to sweep the season series. He beat his former team earlier this season in Philadelphia—happy homecoming, Donovan—and looks to do it in the nation's capital on Sunday.

There's much more to talk about so instead of boring you in the intro, unless I've done that already, it's time to make my picks for Week 10 of the NFL.

14. Baltimore Ravens at Atlanta Falcons

Instead of throwing a bunch of facts out at you, since I've learned that stats really mean jack as far as making picks, I'll give you where I stand on the game.

Good for you?

Perfect.

Matt Ryan, Michael Turner, and the Falcons will be at home against a Ravens team that seems to be getting a little better offensively, not to mention their stingy defense.

I would normally pick Baltimore if in fact they were playing at home. They're not, so I'm going with Atlanta.

13. Cincinnati Bengals at Indianapolis Colts

We can sit here and talk about how disappointing the Dallas Cowboys and San Diego Chargers have been this year, but what about the Cincinnati Bengals?

This is a team that's far too talented to be playing like they have.

Unfortunately for them, they have to take their talent, or lack thereof, they have to travel to the RCA Dome in Indianapolis to take on Peyton Manning who's always dangerous at home.

Maybe at some point the Bengals will wake up. Then again, maybe not.

12. New York Jets at Cleveland Browns

I'm going to surprise you on this one.

When Colt McCoy was thrown into the fire, I had a feeling that he was going to be able to be successful.

Since he was given the job, the Browns are 2-1 with their only loss coming against Pittsburgh, which was to be expected especially since it was his very first start in the NFL.

After that, how about a 30-17 win over New Orleans and an even more impressive 34-14 win over New England?

That's enough for me. Browns win...again

11. Minnesota Vikings at Chicago Bears

Just had to put a picture up of Toby Gerhart. I'm waiting for him, along with a few other running backs, to finally break out. But we're not talking about rookie running backs are we?

The Minnesota Vikings are 3-5, they got Randy Moss, they dropped Randy Moss, they've been dealing with Brett the wannabe photographer, and Percy Harvin almost went Manny Pacquiao on head coach Brad Childress.

Ah yes, as the World of the Vikings turns.

Minnesota wins this one.

10. Tennessee Titans at Miami Dolphins

I remember when Vince Young disappeared from the NFL and I wondered how a guy with his kind of talent could just throw away a great opportunity.

Since he's returned, he seems to be getting his swagger back and has his Titans' ball club at 5-3 so far heading into Miami.

While they don't look like a Super Bowl team, all they need to do is make the playoffs and go from there.

For now, they'll take care of Miami.

9. Houston Texas at Jacksonville Jaguars

Arian Foster showed just how good he can be against the San Diego Chargers this past Sunday. Though they didn't come away with the win, he is still one of the better running backs in the NFL. Shows that even a no name can become a star.

The Texans will lick their wounds as they head to Jacksonville to face another dangerous running back, Maurice Jones-Drew.

While the Texans defense isn't great, their offense will do enough to get the win.

8. Detroit Lions at Buffalo Bills

Matthew Stafford out for the remainder of the season? How does that make me pick Detroit with that kind of information?

Ryan Fitzpatrick has been doing a good enough job to get a win and there should have been a few games already that they should have gotten on the win column.

Without Stafford, the Lions are in trouble.

Bills finally get in the win column.

7. Carolina Panthers at Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Sometimes, you just want to look at a 5-3 team playing at home against a 1-7 team and laugh, wondering whether people think you're going to take the 1-7 team.

Not that I am going to take Carolina, because I would never do that with their lack of a quarterback, but I think it would be fun to play devil's advocate.

Though I won't do that today. Bucs roll.

6. Kansas City Chiefs at Denver Broncos

I really should stop picking all of the home teams in this slideshow, and although I know I haven't picked ALL the home teams, I haven't seen many road teams that are deserving of my pick.

The Denver Broncos are 2-6 and don't look deserving of my pick to win this game. However, I haven't believed the Chiefs are as good as their record and I still don't, regardless of their 5-3 start.

Though, I know picking the Broncos is scary especially since they're the team that got absolutely embarrassed by Oakland, which doesn't happen very often.

It's nothing against the Chiefs, but I'm going with Denver.

5. St. Louis Rams at San Francisco 49ers

Didn't I just get through saying I hadn't found a road team, or at least very many at this point?

Well, I have in this one.

I've always been a fan of Sam Bradford and that comes from a guy who lives in Texas. While I know there are plenty of Oklahoma fans in Dallas, there are more Longhorn fans.

Ok, we're getting off point. Sam Bradford has the Rams in a place that a lot of people didn't expect them to be when he was drafted this past April.

They're heading to San Francisco to take on the 49ers, who aren't going anywhere at all, though I am interested to see Oklahoma (Bradford) take on Ohio State (Troy Smith). When was the last time we saw that?

Rams win.

4. Dallas Cowboys at New York Giants

The New York Giants and the Dallas Cowboys.

Eli Manning has to be salivating over this one, especially since the game will be played at home. The Cowboys lost by six at home in their first meeting but that one was with Tony Romo in the game.

Now the Cowboys are 1-7, Jason Garrett is the interim head coach and Jon Kitna is the quarterback. One strike...two strikes...and that's your ballgame.

Giants win big.

3. Seattle Seahawks at Arizona Cardinals

Normally, in any other circumstance, I wouldn't pick Seattle to win anything, even a baseball game.

However, they're playing against a team that can't decide who their quarterback is going to be, not that either of them is a real answer.

The Seahawks aren't great, but they'll be good enough to win.

2. New England Patriots at Pittsburgh Steelers

This is the perfect time for these two teams to meet up.

They're both sitting at 6-2, both teams are destined for the playoffs, and both are legitimate Super Bowl contenders.

Besides that, who wouldn't want to watch Ben Roethlisberger against Tom Brady? It's like watching two heavyweight boxers exchange blows or two Cy Young Award winners go pitch for pitch and out for out.

These are the kind of games that make the NFL fun.

With the Steelers at home, they'll get the win.

1. Philadelphia Eagles at Washington Redskins (Monday Night Football)

Michael Vick returns to the field and the Philadelphia Eagles got a big win over the Indianapolis Colts.

We all knew that was going to happen. We knew that once Vick was back on the field, the Eagles would take on a whole new look.

Teams will need to plan for them differently than they did for Kevin Kolb. Vick can beat you deep or he can beat you all on his own.

Donovan McNabb will have his former team visiting the nation's capitol. The Redskins beat them on the Eagles' home turf, but they won't be so lucky this time around.

Eagles win.
