Week 10 NFL Picks: Predicticting the Scores of Every Game
Into Week 10 we go, and this week features some people making debuts, such as Randy Moss on the Titans and Jason Garrett's head coaching career. With the Cowboys at 1-7, their season is over. Now, it's up to Garrett to show Jerry Jones he deserves to be the head coach next season. The odds of that are very small seeing as how the Cowboys have basically mailed it in this season.
The best game of the week is also the first game, on Thursday night, between the Ravens and the Falcons. Could this be a possible Super Bowl preview?
Top QB: Eli Manning - 20-29, 304 yards, three TDs
Top RB: Jamaal Charles - 18 carries, 177 yards, four catches, 77 yards, two TDs
Top WR: Reggie Wayne - 12 catches, 180 yards, no TD
Top Kicker: Josh Scobee
Top Defense: Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Baltimore Ravens at Atlanta Falcons (Thursday Night)
1 of 14
The first game of the week is a clash of two first place teams, and two quarterbacks taken in the first round of the 2008 NFL draft—Matt Ryan and Joe Flacco.
Atlanta is a tough place to play, especially with Matt Ryan at quarterback. Seriously. Ryan is 17-1 in games played at the Georgia Dome. That's a pretty good stat if you ask me.
Joe Flacco has played well the past few weeks but will have to play his best game of the season for the Ravens to win this game. I wouldn't put it past him.
I like the Falcons in this game and Ryan to out duel Flacco. This may not be the last we see of these two teams squaring off this season.
Fearless Forecast: Falcons 24, Ravens 20
Detroit Lions at Buffalo Bills
2 of 14
The Bills first win is coming, and it's this week. Mark my words.
They have been so close to winning the past three weeks but just couldn't finish games. That won't be the case this week.
The Lions will be without Matthew Stafford, who is likely out for the season as well, and they haven't won a game on the road in two years. If they are going to win on the road, it would make sense to end the streak against the winless Bills.
With no Stafford and against a desperate Bills team, the Lions will lose this game and drop to 1-7.
Hallelujah Bills fans. You can rejoice after this one.
Fearless Forecast: Bills 27, Lions 13
Minnesota Vikings at Chicago Bears
3 of 14
Last Sunday was a perfect example as to why you can never count out a Brett Favre-team. Trailing by 14 in the fourth quarter, Favre put his team on his back, throwing for 446 yards and leading the Vikings to an overtime win. Granted, it was the Cardinals, but is it enough to get them going in the right direction?
However, players haven't cooled their stance on Brad Childress, who continues to get ripped. He is a loss or two away from getting fired.
Meanwhile, amazingly, if the Bears win this game, they will be 6-3. They were lucky to escape with a win last week against the Bills. Jay Cutler did just enough to win that game, and on Sunday, we will see two gun slingers square off against one another.
The Vikings players have made it clear they aren't playing for Brad Childress but for themselves to keep the season alive.
I say they are still alive after a win in Chicago. Vikings win it.
Fearless Forecast: Vikings 20, Bears 14
Cincinnati Bengals at Indianapolis Colts
4 of 14
You can try to blame Terrell Owens all you want for the Bengals 2-6 start but look at the stats. Owens is having a monster season, reeling in 55 catches and seven touchdowns. The problem isn't Owens; it's Carson Palmer. Since tearing his ACL in 2005, Palmer has never looked the same.
That's not the case for Peyton Manning, who is nearly indestructible. All of his weapons on offense keep going down, but Peyton continues to make his receivers great, such as Jacob Tamme, who has filled in for Dallas Clark beautifully.
The Colts have won 12 or more games eight seasons in a row, something that is remarkable. That streak may be in serious jeopardy this season, but as long as No. 18 is back there at quarterback, don't count them out.
The Colts will bounce back here and improve to 6-3.
Fearless Forecast: Colts 27, Bengals 20
New York Jets at Cleveland Browns
5 of 14
Three weeks ago, Eric Mangini's Cleveland Browns took out the defending champion Saints at the Superdome. Last week, Mangini out coached his mentor, Bill Belichick. Now, Mangini's former team, the Jets are in town, and the former Jets coach would like nothing more than to take down Rex Ryan and company.
The Browns recipe for success during their two-game win streak has been running the football and great defense. Peyton Hillis is turning out to be the steal of the offseason, as he carved up the Patriots for 184 yards, including two touchdowns last week.
Colt McCoy has faced the Steelers, Saints and Patriots in his first three games and has gone 2-1. That's a pretty good start to a career if you ask me.
I like the Browns to keep it rolling here.
Fearless Forecast: Browns 17, Jets 14
Tennessee Titans at Miami Dolphins
6 of 14
The anticipated debut of Randy Moss in a Titans uniform kicks off this week in Miami—the place where Moss played his final game as a member of the Patriots. Now on his third team this season, Moss seems motivated and will help a Titans team that already has the most explosive player in the NFL—Chris Johnson.
Changes have been made in Miami as well. With Tony Sporano not liking the consistency he was getting out of Chad Henne, the Dolphins have turned to Chad Pennington, who just two seasons ago, led the Dolphins to an AFC East title.
Me personally, I don't understand this move. If Henne is supposed to be your quarterback of the future, you stick with him. Can Pennington really change the dimensions of the Dolphins?
The Dolphins are winless at home this season, and the Titans are coming off a bye week. Jeff Fisher will have his team ready.
Fearless Forecast: Titans 23, Dolphins 16
Carolina Panthers at Tampa Bay Buccaneers
7 of 14
Raheem Morris said the Bucs are the best team in the NFC, and after their loss last week in Atlanta, I think that hype has died down. Don't kid yourself though, this is a good football team with a quarterback who thrives under pressure in Josh Freeman.
They will have no problem with the Panthers, who they already beat in Carolina earlier in the season.
This season has been a complete disaster for the Panthers with both Matt Moore and Jimmy Clausen struggling and now injuries to Deangelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart. With Moore done for the rest due to an injury, it's time for Clausen to prove he can be the Panthers quarterback of the future. Right now, judging from his poor play, it makes sense why he slid so far in the draft.
Fearless Forecast: Buccaneers 23, Panthers 7
Houston Texans at Jacksonville Jaguars
8 of 14
Remember when this Texans team was supposed to be different? They were supposed to be for real and win games they should win. Nope, not the case. I'm sorry, but you will not succeed when you have the worst defense in the league.
Opposing quarterbacks feast at the opportunity to play against this Texans passing defense. Because they can score so much, every game is a shootout. The problem is that they can't stop anybody.
With the Jags coming off a bye week, I expect them to play well and win this game. David Garrard looked like an all-pro in Dallas and will continue to play well against the Texans. Having said that, you never really know what to expect out of the Jaguars, but I'll take my chances with them here.
Yes, the Jaguars will be 5-4 after this game. They keep hanging around.
Fearless Forecast: Jaguars 31, Texans 28
Kansas City Chiefs at Denver Broncos
9 of 14
I am officially on the Tim Tebow bandwagon, and I want him to start. He at least makes the Broncos exciting. I'm not hating on Kyle Orton; he has been great this season, but the Broncos aren't going anywhere, and why not spice things up and put in Tebow?
Anyway, enough about that. This is an interesting matchup. The Chiefs were so close to improving to 6-2 last week before losing in overtime to the Raiders. I want to see how they respond to that loss against a Broncos team coming off a bye week. They need more out of Matt Cassel, it's that simple.
The Broncos are well rested after their trip to London, and in their last home game, got rocked 59-14 to the Raiders. Broncos win it.
I repeat, put Tebow in!
Fearless Forecast: Broncos 34, Chiefs 27
Dallas Cowboys at New York Giants
10 of 14
The Giants are the hottest team in football, and the Cowboys are in a free fall. So how can this game possibly be close?
I'll give you a reason. It's an NFC East game, and these games are always weird. The Cowboys can't play as bad as they've been playing the past two weeks. They quit on Wade Phillips, and now, it's Jason Garrett's turn to coach the most disappointing team of the season.
The Giants look too good right now to have a let down and will win this one, sweeping the Cowboys.
Fearless Forecast: Giants 31, Cowboys 17
Seattle Seahawks at Arizona Cardinals
11 of 14
Let me just start by saying this: The NFC West is a complete joke. The winner of the division will be 9-7 at best and gets to host a home playoff game.
The division is up in the air, and the winner of this Seahawks-Cardinals game could very well determine who wins the division.
Thank god Matt Hasselbeck is returning this week, as Charlie Whitehurst struggled badly in his first career start en route to a 41-7 loss at the hands of the Giants.
On the other hand, the Cardinals were oh so close to taking down the Vikings before losing in overtime. I expect them to rebound here.
Fearless Forecast: Cardinals 27, Seahawks 17
St.Louis Rams at San Francisco 49ers
12 of 14
Amazingly, with a win here against the Rams, the 49ers are right in the thick of things in the pitiful NFC West. If Troy Smith can start 2-0 in his tenure with Niners, he will have made a case to be the starting quarterback of this team.
Nobody expected this out of the Rams, who are 4-4. They haven't had four wins combined the last two seasons. Sam Bradford is playing better than anyone expected, but needs his first road win of his young career. He's 4-0 at home, and 0-4 on the road.
I like the 49ers in this one, as they continue to creep up in the worst division in football.
Fearless Forecast: 49ers 20, Rams 10
New England Patriots at Pittsburgh Steelers
13 of 14
Football fans have a treat on Sunday Night Football where the Patriots and Steelers will square off. Tom Brady vs. Ben Roethlisberger, five Super Bowl's between the two, take your pick.
Were the Patriots exposed last week in Cleveland? Their defense got shredded by Peyton Hillis as he rushed for 184 yards. Don't count on the Patriots repeating their performance against the Browns; they will come to play in Pittsburgh.
The Steelers avoided a fourth quarter collapse last week to beat the Bengals 27 21. Ben Roethlisberger is finding a rhythm, and it's like he was never suspended.
This game could really go either way, but I'm going with the Steelers in a dog fight.
Fearless Forecast: Steelers 23, Patriots 20
Philadelphia Eagles at Washington Redskins
14 of 14
Donovan McNabb squares off against his former team, the Eagles, part two. In the first game, McNabb and the Redskins took down the Eagles in Philly, with Michael Vick getting injured in the process.
With Vick healthy and showing no signs of rust last week, this will be a completely different game than the first time around.
Oh yeah, and there's that little dilemma with McNabb and Mike and Kyle Shannahan. With both coaches questioning McNabb's ability last week, the Redskins have been all over the news during their bye week. What has McNabb done to deserve this? He will respond to being benched, remember when Andy Reid benched him two years ago?
McNabb wil play well and so will Vick. Vick will get the last laugh in this one as the Eagles fly to 6-3.
Fearless Forecast: Eagles 27, Redskins 23
