Fantasy Football Week 10: Top 10 Waiver Wire Pickups for Savvy Fantasy Owner

Tom KinslowNov 9, 2010

Fantasy football Week 10 is upon us and it's time to scour the waiver wire to help find you those players that will put you over the top on Sunday and Monday.

I've given 10 players that will make an impact in your lineup if you need to change things around because of injury or performance. If you agree or disagree, as always, put it in the comments.

If you need any questions answered about your lineups, I'd be more than happy to help you out there as well.

No. 10: Colt McCoy

NEW ORLEANS - OCTOBER 24: Colt McCoy #12 of the Cleveland Browns in action against the New Orleans Saints at the Louisiana Superdome on October 24, 2010 in New Orleans, Louisiana. (Photo by Chris Graythen/Getty Images)

Colt McCoy isn't going to be any fantasy stud for the rest of the year, but if you need some depth, you should pick him up.

McCoy isn't going to go out there and torch your team with bad decisions and interceptions. He's going to make solid decisions and put up decent to mediocre numbers. How is that any different than Chad Henne, who people drafted late in the game?

He should be solid off of your bench.

No. 9: Nate Washington

2 of 10
NASHVILLE, TN - AUGUST 23: Nate Washington #85 of the Tennessee Titans breaks away from the Arizona Cardinals defense after making a first down catch during a preseason game at LP Field on August 23, 2010 in Nashville, Tennessee. (Photo by Grant Halvers

With Randy Moss taking attention from defenses on the outside, it's going to open up Nate Washington in the slot.

He's developed a connection with Vince Young and that will help as Chris Johnson and Randy Moss draw the majority of the attention from opposing defenses. Washington is another deep threat that Young and the Titans can exploit.

He's a great flex play in your lineup.

No. 8: Joel Dressen

3 of 10
HOUSTON - AUGUST 9: Joel Dressen #85 of the Houston Texans looks on during the game against the Denver Broncos at Reliant Stadium on August 9, 2008 in Houston, Texas. ( Photo by: Ronald Martinez/Getty Images)

With Owen Daniels being nicked up, it's Joel Dressen's time to shine as Matt Schaub's tight end in the Texans' offense.

Daniels is questionable for this week and if you need a tight end, Dressen should be a good fill-in at that spot. He'll get looks from Schaub with defenses keying in on Andre Johnson and I think he'll have a decent day against Jacksonville.

I'd start him if you have no other options.

No. 7: Matt Cassel

Now if Matt Cassel is available in your league, you need to pick him up if you need depth at the quarterback position.

He's going to put up solid numbers and has done so for a while. He's been building up a connection with Dwayne Bowe and the two have been finding the end zone. Cassel isn't a great quarterback, but depending on matchups, he could be a start.

You could do worse that Cassel at quarterback.

No. 6: Nate Burleson

5 of 10
DETROIT - OCTOBER 10: Nate Burleson #13 of the Detroit Lions reacts after catching a second quarter pass for a first down while playing the St. Louis Rams on October 10, 2010 at Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan. (Photo by Gregory Shamus/Getty Images)

If you were one of the people who watched the Lions play host to the Jets, there's one thing you noticed when the Lions were on the field.

Nate Burleson was making grab after grab. Burleson tore up the Jets defense and benefited Calvin Johnson getting locked down on Revis Island. He worked the slot often and even found his way into the end zone.

The Lions are always going to air it out and Burleson will benefit.

No. 5: Mike Goodson

6 of 10
CHARLOTTE, NC - NOVEMBER 07: Mike Goodson #33 of the Carolina Panthers runs with the ball against the New Orleans Saints during their game at Bank of America Stadium on November 7, 2010 in Charlotte, North Carolina. (Photo by Streeter Lecka/Getty Images

With DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart both being dinged up, it's Mike Goodson time in Carolina at running back.

Goodson will be a factor in the running game and out of the backfield in the passing game and I'd pick him up if you're desperate for running back depth. But be warned, as owners of the other Carolina running backs will tell you, the Panthers are just not a good running team.

There's no reason not to take a chance on him though.

No. 4: Shaun Hill

7 of 10
EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ - OCTOBER 17: Shaun Hill #14 of the Detroit Lions drops back to pass against the New York Giants at New Meadowlands Stadium on October 17, 2010 in East Rutherford, New Jersey. (Photo by Andrew Burton/Getty Images)

Now this is a bit of a gamble, but if he's available, grab Shaun Hill off of waivers.

With Matthew Stafford out with what's believed to be a separated shoulder, the Lions are hoping that Hill will be able to play on Sunday as he recovers from an injury he suffered against the Giants a couple of weeks ago.

He put up big numbers when he started after Stafford's first injury and would do so again.

No. 3: Brandon Pettigrew

8 of 10
EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ - OCTOBER 17: Brandon Pettigrew #84 of the Detroit Lions runs with the ball under pressure from Deon Grant #34 of the New York Giants at New Meadowlands Stadium on October 17, 2010 in East Rutherford, New Jersey. (Photo by Nick Laham/

Brandon Pettigrew has turned into quite the fantasy tight end in recent weeks.

He pulled in a touchdown last week against the Jets and he has found plenty of room up the middle with Calvin Johnson drawing double teams. Pettigrew is pretty sure-handed and he'll put up good numbers for you.

Pick him up if you need the help.

No. 2: Blair White

9 of 10
DENVER - SEPTEMBER 26: Wide receiver Blair White #15 of the Indianapolis Colts makes a catch for a touchdown against cornerback Perrish Cox #32 of the Denver Broncos during NFL action at INVESCO Field at Mile High on September 26, 2010 in Denver, Colorad

With Austin Collie suffering a concussion, and plenty of other players dinged up around Peyton Manning, Blair White is a good pick up if you need help with your wideouts.

White will get looks from Manning, every player in that offense will, that's just how Manning is. White will put up some decent stats, especially if you're looking for a flex position, you could do a lot worse than White.

He's a Colts wideout, he'll produce and he got a good number of looks in the offense against the Eagles.

No. 1: Jacoby Ford

10 of 10
OAKLAND, CA - NOVEMBER 07: Jacoby Ford #12 of the Oakland Raiders catches a pass over Brandon Flowers #24 of the Kansas City Chiefs during an NFL game at Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum on November 7, 2010 in Oakland, California. (Photo by Jed Jacobsohn

If you were lucky enough to see the bonus coverage of the Raiders and the Chiefs game like I was, you saw Jacoby Ford make two huge plays to help the Raiders beat their division rival.

Ford made a huge grab, pulling the ball away from a defender to put the Raiders in position to tie the game and send it to overtime and then reeled in a huge bomb from Jason Campbell that set up the game-winning field goald.

The Raiders are now making plays on offense and love to air it out and a speedy guy like Ford will certainly help. Pick him up if you need help at the wideout slots in the lineup.
