Cam Newton and the NFL Draft: 10 Teams That Could Draft Him and Use Him
Cam Newton, despite any controversy surrounding his arrival at Auburn and whether he was paid to attend or not, is one of the most dynamic players in recent memory in college football, and could make a conceivable impact at the next level.
He came into the season with little attention, with the attention lavished on his counterpart at Ohio State Terrelle Pryor, but is now getting all the hype with his impressive numbers.
He has emerged as the run-heavy quarterback down in Auburn, while Pryor is working on all facets of his game, but is becoming a jack-of-all-trades, master of none.
As the season starts to wind down, and draft day gets closer and closer, one thing that will be talked about is the ability for Newton's style of play to transfer over to the NFL level.
Well, there are plenty of teams that the guy could help out this instant, and many would like to have him right now I imagine.
So, here are ten teams that should think about drafting Cam Newton.
10. Seattle Seahawks
1 of 10
Newton is a dynamic offensive player, something that doesn't exist inside the Seahawks locker room this season.
They are currently 29th in the league with only 83.6 rushing yards per game.
Newton could step in and, whether he comes in as a full fledged quarterback, a halfback, or a wildcat quarterback, immediately change their running game.
Paired with Justin Forsett's "beast mode" style of running, they would be a daunting task for many defensive systems.
9. Miami Dolphins
2 of 10
Emerging as a threatening team in the AFC East, the Dolphins seem to have gone stagnant in the running game.
While they do have two formidable backs in Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams, Cam Newton would add another dimension to the team that re-popularized the wildcat offense.
Also, with receivers like Davone Bess, Brandon Marshall and the emerging Brian Hartline, Newton would have a team with a number of good reveivers, making him a credible pass threat in the process.
With Chad Henne currently occupying their quarterback spot, it isn't inconceivable to think that Newton could do it.
8. Cincinnati Bengals
3 of 10
Carson Palmer is on a visible decline, and isn't showing any signs that he is returning to his old form lately.
He can, however still run an offense, and he may do so better with less pressure on him to be the main threat to the defense.
With Cam Newton, the Bengals would add another dimension to their offense that is boring, despite the inclusion of exciting playmakers in Terrell Owens, Chad Ochocinco and Jordan Shipley.
It would make their running game more than just a three yards and a cloud of dust style of play, and it would give Newton a formidable veteran to learn from.
7. Buffalo Bills
4 of 10
When is the last time the Bills not only had a team relevant in the NFL, but a team that would put up gaudy numbers.
Well, inserting him into the offense with CJ Spiller in the backfield would add much needed swagger to this Buffalo team, and would have the nation talking about Buffalo again, something that hasn't happened in over a decade.
6. Arizona Cardinals
5 of 10
They don't really have any hope in the quarterback position after the team set off a bomb by acquiring Derek Anderson in the offseason, forcing Matt Leinart out in the process.
The team now has a dual threat running game with no passing game to speak of, so why not give Cam a shot.
He would give the team a triple-threat running game along with the potential for an opened up passing game if Newton can be rounded into NFL form.
And, with a team that has a combined six passing touchdowns thus far, they would be hard pressed to saying no to giving Newton a shot.
Newton could have them back on top in no time.
5. Washington Redskins
6 of 10
It is looking like the Skins got the raw end of the McNabb deal more and more every day.
Donovan McNabb is starting to show signs of serious decline, and it isn't looking good for the future of the skins if they plan on having Rex Grossman take over after McNabb.
Drafting Newton would give Cam a chance to learn from a grizzled vet who has always had his own doubters, teaching him to silence criticism and become an NFL quarterback in the process.
4. San Francisco 49ers

Thankfully for the world, there is Mike Singletary heading up the unintentional comedy department in the NFL this season.
After all he does want winners, he wants people who want to win.
And if Newton has showed us anything this year, it's that all he does is win, no matter what.
With Alex Smith pulling his usual Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde routine, in which he looks terrible for a few weeks and then pulls out two quarters of inspirational play, it may be a good idea to bring in a guy that can challenge him for the job.
It would put pressure on both of them to perform, leading to more winners.
3. Carolina Panthers
8 of 10
They drafted Jimmy "Quarterback" Clausen a year ago and have benched him twice in favor of Matt Moore.
Needless to say, they don't have a reliable option at QB in that offense to speak of.
With Cam brought in, they could build a system around him, getting rid of their old and dead weight in the process, something that needed to be done two or three years ago in Carolina.
2. Chicago Bears
9 of 10
The decision needs to be made on whether Jay Cutler can be a leader for the Bears and whether or not he can take them back to the promised land.
If he can't then it's time to look for a protege, and Newton could fill that role nicely.
Cutler could teach Newton to fill the holes in his game, leading to Newton becoming a dual-threat NFL quarterback, and the Bears becoming a force again in the NFC North.
1. Dallas Cowboys
10 of 10
In the NFL, everything seems to revolve around the Cowboys, and this is no different.
On paper, they seem like a fit for Newton, he could come in and be their wildcat quarterback, and wait for Jerry Jones to get upset with the way the team is playing, forcing whatever new coach that is to come in to bench Romo in favor of the popular Newton, and we could finally see what he is worth.
They already have shown that they can handle discipline cases, as they drafted wide receiver Dez Bryant who also had eligibility issues a year ago in the NCAA.
So why not give Newton a shot, he would certainly land them in a brighter spot than they are in now.
Oh, and he would be 129 times better as a backup than Jon Kitna.
