NFL Fantasy Football Week 9 Sleepers: Josh Freeman, Shonn Greene, and More

During the bye weeks, you often have to roll out less than ideal lineups, especially when your players are nicked up. That’s the nature of the beast. Sometimes you need a fantasy gem to be successful. Here are some of the under-the-radar players that could possibly pull out a win for you.

 

Josh Freeman, QB, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Freeman is taking on Atlanta, who ranks 25th in the league at stopping the pass (260.3 ypg). They are also tied for 18th with 11 passing TDs allowed. Freeman is playing on the road where his passer rating is 101.5 and he averages 245.3 ypg, compared to 78.9 and 199.3 at home.


Fred Jackson, RB, Buffalo Bills 
People may shy away from Jackson because he’s taking on the Bears’ fifth-ranked run defense (89.3 rushing yards allowed per game), but Jackson held his own against Baltimore (77 total yards) and Kansas City (75 total yards).


Shonn Greene, RB, New York Jets 
Greene has his best games when the Jets are able to get ahead and he helps close out the opponent. That could be in order this week, as he takes on a Lions run defense that allows 130.4 ypg and 4.9 ypc.

Mario Manningham, WR, New York Giants
Manningham is averaging just 47 yards per game, but he scored in each of his last two contests. He should do well against a Seahawks pass defense that is allowing 286.9 ypg.


Patrick Crayton, WR, San Diego Chargers
The Chargers remained banged up at WR so Crayton will continue to get plenty of looks. The Chargers are playing Houston, who is allowing 312.4 passing yards per game. They have also allowed 16 passing TDs.


Visanthe Shiancoe, TE, Minnesota Vikings
Shiancoe has been obsolete since the second week of the season. Now that Randy Moss is gone, the Vikings will likely go back to him because they have limited options in the passing game, especially with Percy Harvin (ankle) at less than 100%.


Minnesota Vikings Defense
If this Viking team has any backbone, it will come out swinging against Arizona. The Vikings have struggled to generate a pass rush, but should be able to get to the QB against the Cardinals, who have allowed 22 sacks. They have also thrown 12 INTs and lost 11 fumbles.
