Randy Moss, Tennessee Titans: Why Moss Will Quickly Become Disgruntled

Gabe ZaldivarNov 3, 2010

Randy Moss, Tennessee Titans wide receiver: That has a very odd sound to it. Yet that will be what we say for the remainder of the season—or until Moss overstays his welcome.

The only thing you can count on in Randy Moss anymore is that he will one day leave a team on bad terms. There is no reason to think that his stay in Tennessee will be the one stop where things work splendidly.

With that in mind I have broken down 10 potential scenarios and issues that will anger Moss.

10. Kenny Britt

This is low on the list simply because we do not know when Britt will return. What is clear is that he is a star in the making. If he does return this season, his appearance will inflame what could be a volatile situation.

This season we have seen that defenses still pay close attention to Moss. Having him on the team will actually free up receivers Kenny Britt and Nate Washington.

9. Asked To Do Too Much

Randy Moss will have to do a lot in his third fresh start this season. He will need to be patient, for one. The Titans are a model organization compared to the mess he left in Minnesota. The Titans could incorporate Moss slowly. But Moss, as we know, is not a patient man.

The second thing he must do is be a player that can do the little things. He will need to be a blocker downfield for Chris Johnson or a decoy that spreads the field. While Moss possesses many talents, aspiring to do the little things right is not one of them.

8. His Third Team

This is the third stop for Randy Moss in just one season. Now he must re-learn personnel, playbooks, coaching strategies and teammate propensities—among other countless variables. It is tough enough to make a switch to a team mid-season, but to do it twice could prove impossible.

The saving grace in this circumstance is that the Titans took a shot on him with a bye week looming. That will aid the transition. Comfort in the new system will be a question mark early though.

7. Boredom

Idle hands lead to Moss-like outbursts. It seems like Randy Moss must be the center of attention. Whether it is showing that he is not giving it 100 percent or causing an outburst in a postgame locker room, he likes to make waves. It is just who he is.

With the Titans, things may go swimmingly for a time. But Moss has OCD for these types of situations. He will get bored with the normalcy and cause havoc. Bet on it.

6. Jeff Fisher

Jeff Fisher is the longest tenured coach among active NFL coaches. He is well liked and well respected by his players. That sounds exactly like the kind of coach that Randy Moss enjoys getting on the wrong side of.

Let me get this straight: He would not listen to Brad Childress or Bill Belichick. They are two of the best in the game. What makes us believe that he will heed Fisher's demands? Truth be told, it is a strong coach that tends to irk Moss. He likes to be the one in control.

5. Best Player Is Not Him

Moss joins a Tennessee team which already has two stars. The first week may be all Randy Moss, but after that fans will still clamour for more Chris Johnson and Vince Young.

Two players will need to be interviewed before him after a game. Fans will want his autograph only after they get their quarterback's and running back's signatures. Jealousy is bound to set in.

4. System in Place

Randy Moss was the first of the ego-maniacal wide receivers. Before him, receivers like Jerry Rice gladly fit into a system. Moss was the first to demand the system fit him. There is no doing that in Tennessee. They already have a system that works, and he is low on the food chain.

The game plan will be for Randy Moss to spread the defense so Chris Johnson can go ahead and get his season started. There will be no altering the plan for the receiver. He should be made quite aware that he is filling in for Kenny Britt.

3. Vince Young

Randy Moss better hope for quick slant plays. His last two stops did not include a quarterback who was nearly as mobile as Vince Young. If he does not find you quickly, Young will take matters into his own hands.

He has become much more adept at staying in the pocket, but as Moss gets a long look from defenses, Young will either dish to a check down, as he has learned to do, or run the ball. I don't see Moss getting as many attempts thrown his way as he would like.

2. Chris Johnson

Now that we have Moss stretching the field, Chris Johnson can go to work and become the running back he was last year.

If Moss does see passes thrown to him, it will rarely be in the red zone where Chris Johnson shines. The Titans have nothing but faith in the back to punch it in for six. Moss and the touchdown reception could be a rare occurrence in Tennessee.

More than that though, it is clear that Chris Johnson is the man in Nashville—and I don't know that Randy Moss can handle that.

More than any reason though, the most important has to be Randy Moss himself. He has yet to end his tenure on a team under good terms. There is absolutely no reason we should believe he has learned his lesson.

Why should he have? He wanted to leave the mess in Minnesota for greener pastures. Now he is a starter on a playoff contender. It seems like every time he opens his mouth, he gets what he wants. So I don't see him stopping.
