Randy Moss Cut: How High Does He Rank Among Current Top 20 NFL Receivers?
Randy Moss was cut from the Minnesota Vikings yesterday and today he will likely find a new home, and that team will hope that they're getting the Moss of old.
But what are they getting exactly? Where does Moss stack up right now after eight weeks among the wideouts in the NFL. Inside is the top 20 wideouts through Week 8. Is Moss in that group? You'll just have to see for yourself.
If you agree or disagree, make sure to leave it in the comments. Is there a phenom wideout coming up that you see making a Moss-like splash in the next few years? Let it be known in the comments as well.
No. 20: Larry Fitzgerald
1 of 20
It hasn't been a normal Larry Fitzgerald year, but that doesn't mean it hasn't been a terrible one either.
Fitzgerald has 403 yards receiving and four touchdowns this year, and while they aren't normal Larry Fitzgerald stats, considering he's had Max Hall and Derek Anderson throwing to him, that's pretty impressive.
We'll see if he can pick it up later in the season.
No. 19: Dwayne Bowe
2 of 20
With Matt Cassel finally clicking in Kansas City, Dwayne Bowe has benefited because of it.
Bowe has six touchdowns this year and is a favorite target in the end zone, and with his size and strength, how can you blame him? Bowe is the biggest threat in the Kansas City passing game and he and Cassel have built up a connection.
He still drops a few passes and that will have to change.
No. 18: Marques Colston
3 of 20
It's hard for a Saints wideout to normally crack these rankings but Marques Colston is the best player that Drew Brees has at his disposal.
Colston has 527 yards receiving, which is good enough for 11th best in the league and even though guys like Lance Moore are getting more red zone targets and touchdown catches, it's more because Colston is the biggest target on the field and draws more attention.
His touchdowns will pick up sooner or later.
No. 17: Malcom Floyd
4 of 20
Malcom Floyd is the leading receiver for the Chargers and coming into the season, who would have taken that bet?
Floyd has been Philip Rivers' go-to man this year and somehow Rivers continues to get it done without Vincent Jackson. I wouldn't say that he's shown to be expendable at the wide receiver position, but you could make a case, despite San Diego's record.
Floyd has had a good season so far. Let's see if he keeps it up.
No. 16: Mike Williams
5 of 20
As much of a surprise as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have been this season, so has Mike Williams.
No, it's not THAT Mike Williams, but the young wideout has had a big year, teaming up with Josh Freeman early and often. Williams has 470 yards and four touchdowns and is the go-to guy in the Tampa Bay offense.
He'll be a big impact player down the stretch.
No. 15: Austin Collie
6 of 20
Austin Collie has had a breakout year, and though he's injured, he's one of the Colts' top targets this year.
Collie has six touchdowns this season and has become one of Peyton Manning's favorite targets in the offense. When he comes back from his injury, I'm sure he'll pick up right where he left off before the bye week.
My fantasy team has loved his production, that's for sure.
No. 14: Steve Johnson
7 of 20
It's rare to see any Buffalo Bills player rated highly in any position, but Steve Johnson has had a big season for the Bills.
He's caught touchdowns consistently and has linked up with Ryan Fitzpatrick, who is also putting up good numbers for the Bills. It's odd to see Buffalo with such a potent connection. It makes you wonder why Terrell Owens couldn't have the same success.
He's a huge surprise this year.
No. 13: Kenny Britt
8 of 20
Kenny Britt burst into the mainstream with his huge day against the Eagles, going over 200 yards and pulling in three touchdown grabs.
But before that, Britt was putting up consistently good numbers and finding the end zone for seven touchdowns this year. With Britt going down for a while with a hamstring injury, it's going to hurt the Titans' offense but, doesn't change how well he's played.
Britt has turned into a good pro wideout, something the Titans haven't had in a while.
No. 12: Brandon Lloyd
9 of 20
Brandon Lloyd leads the league in receiving. Let that sink in for a while.
Lloyd has been Kyle Orton's favorite target in the Denver offense and with how much the Broncos throw the ball, it's impressive that he's been able to play as well as he has. It's the best year of the wideout's career by far.
I'm not sure many people would guess how good it actually is.
No. 11: Jeremy Maclin
10 of 20
Jeremy Maclin has a little less than 500 yards receiving this year, but then you take a look at his touchdown numbers.
Maclin has six touchdowns on the season and that leads the Eagles and ties him for sixth in the league. With DeSean Jackson out with a concussion, Maclin stepped up and played a big role for the Eagles and justified the high pick they spent on him.
He's helped Kevin Kolb out immensely and I'm sure Mike Vick will be happy to see him.
No. 10: Greg Jennings
11 of 20
Without Ryan Grant in the lineup, Greg Jennings has stepped up and helped Aaron Rodgers get the team down the field and keep things productive.
Jennings is the best deep threat on the team and he's finally starting to get free down the field and making the big plays we're used to seeing from the wideout. Rodgers loves to throw to him and I'm sure we'll see him make more than a few plays in the coming weeks.
With Donald Driver ailing, expect him to see more passes his way.
No. 9: Hakeem Nicks
12 of 20
Hakeem Nicks has found himself in the end zone time and time again this year.
Nicks has eight touchdown grabs, which is good enough for second best in the league and tied for the best among wideouts. Nicks is one of Eli Manning's favorite targets, and with his size and strength, it's no wonder why.
Look for Nicks got get a lot of red zone looks where he can create separation.
No. 8: Anquan Boldin
13 of 20
Anquan Boldin has shown why the Baltimore Ravens were wise to trade for him this offseason.
Joe Flacco has made the most of his new weapon and Boldin has 518 yards receiving and also five touchdowns this year. Boldin has led a very talented group of wideouts and the Ravens are a very dangerous offense with his addition.
Look for him to continue producing as he grows with Flacco.
No. 7: Brandon Marshall
14 of 20
Brandon Marshall is ninth in the league in receiving yards. The only thing that's holding him back from a higher spot in these rankings is touchdowns.
Marshall only has one touchdown this year but that's more due to the fact that when Miami gets down in the red zone, he's getting double teamed and it has opened up guys like Davone Bess underneath, creating a big year for him.
He'll get his, but the touchdowns will be lower than you hoped.
No. 6: Terrell Owens
15 of 20
Who would have thought after the year he had in Buffalo last year, that Terrell Owens would be playing as well as he is now?
Owens is the top wideout in Cincinnati and Carson Palmer loves throwing to him, even if sometimes it's a little too much. T.O. is sixth in the league in receiving yards and is tenth in the league in touchdowns. Not bad if you ask me.
Look for him to get the majority of the looks in the Bengals' offense.
No. 5: Miles Austin
16 of 20
It's been a down year for the Cowboys but Miles Austin has continued to produce for Dallas.
Austin is tied for fourth in receiving yards but he only has two touchdowns on the year. A lot of that has to do with the Cowboys' playcalling and struggles in the red zone. He's going to get a lot of possession looks but may not find the end zone as much as you'd hope.
Jon Kitna will hurt his production a bit down the stretch.
No. 4: Reggie Wayne
17 of 20
Reggie Wayne is still the top dog in the Colts' offense and his stats back that up.
Wayne is tied for fourth in receiving and has three touchdowns on the year. That's more of a product of him drawing the defense's best corner and guys like Austin Collie getting better looks inside the red zone. Peyton Manning will always take the best option.
Look for Wayne to continue to open things up for the other Colts' wideouts this year.
No. 3: Roddy White
18 of 20
It's been fun to watch Roddy White grow into a top NFL wideout.
He and Matt Ryan have grown immensely together since Ryan came to the team and now White is second in the league in receiving yards and tied for 10th in touchdowns. He's Ryan's go-to-guy and always seems to make a big play to swing a game.
Who wouldn't want a player like that?
No. 2: Calvin Johnson
19 of 20
Calvin Johnson has played with three different quarterbacks this year and he's still been able to produce as he always does.
Johnson is 10th in receiving yards but tied for second in receiving touchdowns and would hold that distinction all by himself if he didn't let go of that touchdown pass in Chicago in Week 1. Megatron is a giant target and a quarterback's best friend.
There aren't many players with his skill set.
No. 1: Andre Johnson
20 of 20
Andre Johnson is a beast, plain and simple.
Johnson is eighth in the league in receiving yards and only has three touchdowns this year, but one was a clutch, game-winning grab against Kansas City. Johnson is the most gifted wideout in football and you won't find anyone that will say a bad word about him.
You can't really stop him; slowing him down is your best option and that's when you know you're the best wideout in the game.
