Week 9 Fantasy Football Quarterbacks: Who To Grab, Dump and Ignore
Welcome to my first Fantasy Football article on Bleacher Report.
As an avid Fantasy Football player, this column will not be one of those that spends time giving you the shocking advice that Chris Johnson and Peyton Manning should start for your team. I will not be suggesting you trip over yourself to pick up a second string wide receiver after one week shredding a bad defense. This will take a good solid look at players that not only provide a true upside (or downside), but can hopefully help your fantasy team for more than just one week.
We start with looking at some quarterbacks you might be considering to pick—up as we go into Week 9.

Pick-ups
* Matthew Stafford, Detroit Lions. Records don't matter in Fantasy Football, only stats. Any quarterback throwing to a guy like Calvin Johnson is going to put stats up. With four TD throws against a decent Washington team this past weekend, Stafford is healthy and might be the guy to help you get past your bye week or cover those injured quarterbacks.
* Jon Kitna, Dallas Cowboys. Again, records don't matter, stats do. The Cowboys 1-6 record is not due to a lack of offensive stats. Coming out of Week 8, Dallas actually boasts the 4th ranked offense in the entire NFL. With weapons like Miles Austin, Dez Bryant, Jason Witten and more, Kitna threw for almost 380 yards on Sunday. Ignore the four picks, as three of them were actually errors by receivers.
* Josh Freeman , Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Freeman is averaging 247.3 yards passing in his last four games, yet is currently only owned by 36% of Yahoo! Fantasy owners. With the discovery of a Bucs running back that can actually move foward, Freeman's numbers should continue to produce.
Ignores (Quarterbacks who might be the topic of headlines, but shouldn't impact your team)
* David Garrard, Jacksonville Jaguars. Four touchdowns in the air and one on the ground might make Garrard the topic of a lot of headlines this week, but if he's on the wire in your league you should leave him there. The Dallas Cowboys defense right now is playing with no heart at all and wouldn't be able to stop a cocker spaniel puppy from getting into the endzone. Garrard and the Jags in general are simply too inconsistant this year.
* Donovan McNabb, Washington Redskins. There can be no quarterback controversy in Washington. Regardless of what his coach might think about his conditioning in a two minute drill, Rex Grossman is just gross... man. Ask Suh. Keep McNabb around.
Drop/Trade (QBs in many leagues are too valuable to drop a lot of the time, but can be good trade bait)
* Tom Brady, New England Patriots. Shocking, eh? You certainly shouldn't dump him on the wire (certainly a top name in the NFL wouldn't just be waived suddenly) but Brady is just not putting up Brady-like numbers this year. You might be able to use his name power to trade toward upgrades in some other positions on your team and pluck a stat-producing QB off the wire.
* Brett Favre, Minnesota Vikings. Another surprising name to see here, but it's time. Between Favre's increasing injury count and possible legal problems, the Vikings now see Percy Harvin banged up and Randy Moss hitchhiking his way across the waiver wire. It's only a matter of time before he's benched, suspended, or explodes into a dust cloud when tackled. You might be able to use him for trade bait, but don't be too proud to just drop him. I've done so in both my leagues and was able to pick up better performing replacements off the wire.
