Randy Moss Waived By Minnesota Vikings

RM HeroldNov 1, 2010

Randy Moss was waived by the Minnesota Vikings Monday in a surprise move. This means he has been with the team twice and both times left with the door slamming him in the rear.

Inside, you'll find the bizarre press conference he had after the Vikings 28-18 loss to the New England Patriots that most likely lead to the team parting ways with him.

With Brett Favre suffering another injury Sunday and being carted off the field, and Sidney Rice still not back, Minnesota seemed to only have two healthy playmakers to keep their passing attack going—Moss and Percy Harvin.

Now, word is coming out that Harvin might also be injured.

So with all those injuries, what could Randy Moss possibly have done to get cut from the team?

Watch for yourself.

Another Strange Press Conference

During his post game talk with the media, it sounded like Moss was either close to tears or close to retirement.

He bashed his current coach and spoke about Bill Belichick, the Patriots coach, as if he was trying to get re-acquired by the team.

“Coach Belichick gave me an opportunity to be a part of something special and that is something I really take to heart. I actually salute Coach Belichick and his team for the success that they have had before me, during me and after me,” Moss said.

No More Talking to Reporters, Unless He Wants To

Moss also informed everyone that he will no longer will field questions from reporters after the NFL fined him $25,000 in Week 8 for not cooperating with the media.

Apparently someone in the Minnesota press turned him into the league last week for not talking, and he was about to really take it out on them.

“I said this a couple of weeks ago—but I got fined $25,000 for not talking to you all. Me, personally, I really don’t care, but at the same time, I do answer questions throughout the week, and for the league to fine me $25,000… I am not going to answer any more questions for the rest of this year.”

Moss continued by saying: “If it is going to be an interview, I am going to conduct it. So, I will answer my own questions and ask myself the questions and give you the answers."

Wow.

So What Happens Now?

Some people might take it from yesterday's press conference that Moss would love to go back to New England.

But that's not how the league works.

The way the rules are set up, Moss must now pass through waivers, meaning the teams with the worst records will have the first shot to sign him.

So just like Terrell Owens last year, he might be a Buffalo Bill (They are 0-7).

Since they have the best record in the league, a return to the Patriots could only happen if every other team passes.

But as we have seen, stranger things have happened.

Like Moss leaving the Vikings twice in one career.

The Cost For Moss

Now that he is on waivers and teams are about to put in claims for him, there is a cost to get the controversial wide receiver onto your roster.

Moss has a $6.4 million contract this year, so now that it is prorated it will cost a team around $3 million for the rest of the year if they pick him up from the waiver wire.

If Moss clears waivers and is signed by a team afterward, he will be paid the rest of this year's contract by the Vikings and then he'll be able to negotiate a new contract with whatever team picks him up.

So this isn't over yet.

Funny enough, ESPN and other insiders are reporting that he will wind up back with the Pats.
