Randy Moss Waived: 10 Teams Most Likely To Pick Him Up
Randy Moss was waived by the Minnesota Vikings on Monday, according to Michael Lombardi of the NFL Network.
Lombardi's Twitter post (@michaellombardi) on Monday said: "Filed to NFL net Moss waived"
That means Moss' return to the Vikings—the team he played for in his first seven seasons—is already over after only four games.
Moss had nothing but good things to say about his former team, the Patriots, after the Vikings lost to them on Sunday 28-18.
He did, however, have some criticism for Vikings Head Coach Brad Childress. A day later, he has been waived.
Where does he go now? There are plenty of possibilities.
Teams are always on the lookout for talented, future Hall of Famers to add to their rosters.
Here are 10 possible destinations for Randy Moss.
10. New England Patriots
1 of 10After the Minnesota Vikings (Moss' newest team) lost to the New England Patriots (his old team), Moss gave another of his patented, completely weird press conferences.
In the presser, Moss gave plenty of shout-outs to the Pats, his former teammates, and his former head coach Bill Belichick.
He sounded like he wanted back on the team that had just traded him away.
After his trade, Belichick called the move best for the team.
Moss may be on waivers but it doesn't sound like he'll immediately be welcomed back in Boston. The Pats have won their last three games since trading him away and are 5-1 this season.
It's possible, it's just not that likely to happen.
9. San Franscisco 49ers
2 of 10
Moss has stayed in the Bay Area before with the Oakland Raiders but that didn't end well.
What Moss relationship with a team did end well?
There are so many jobs on the line with the struggling 49ers that they may be desperate enough to make a move to claim Moss off waivers.
San Francisco's offense has looked slightly better since making a change at offensive coordinator, but it could look even better with Moss as the number one guy and Michael Crabtree at number two.
Then Alex Smith would have no more excuses. And neither would Mike Singletary.
8. San Diego Chargers
3 of 10
The Chargers' receiving corp has been riddled with injuries as of late.
Top wide receiver Malcom Floyd has been out for two games, Legedu Naanee for three.
In their last two games, they've had to start Patrick Crayton and Buster Davis. Tight end Antonio Gates continues to give it a go despite a toe injury.
It's obvious that the Chargers are in need of some receiving help.
The good news for the team is that Vincent Jackson is due to return at the end of November.
Meanwhile, since they need to win in his absence, Moss could help fortify their receiving issues.
Imagine a pairing of Vincent Jackson and Randy Moss being thrown to by Philip Rivers.
That could suddenly turn this struggling San Diego team into a playoff squad.
7. Green Bay Packers
4 of 10
The Packers have bounced back after two early losses with two straight wins against the Vikings and the Jets.
But number two receiver Donald Driver has not quite looked his normal consistent self as of late. His thigh injury has been serious enough to render him completely ineffective over the last two games.
If that injury lingers or they just want to add more depth, they may need to think about adding Moss.
What a great way to stick it to Vikings by adding their castoff to the roster and giving Aaron Rodgers another deep threat.
Rodgers can prove he can do something that Favre wasn't able to do—win with Moss.
6. Philadelphia Eagles
5 of 10
In case there are concerns about DeSean Jackson's recovery from a concussion, adding another receiver to the Eagles could be a consideration.
It's clear that they've had plenty of misfortune with injuries this season and could still use some depth.
Moss could be a guy that they bring in for insurance purposes.
Then Michael Vick could be throwing the ball to Randy Moss. Who would have thought that could have been possible this season?
5. Denver Broncos
6 of 10
Kyle Orton has proven to have a very good throwing arm in Denver. But he has had problems finding the end zone this season.
His top receiver, Brandon Lloyd, has only scored in three games this season (two TDs against Baltimore).
The answer could be Moss, a receiver who knows how to get into the end zone.
4. Carolina Panthers
7 of 10
Imagine Randy Moss starting alongside Steve Smith. The previously inept Carolina offense would likely get re-ignited with him on the squad.
Their once potent running game could finally get started as well.
The only reason this won't happen is the Panthers would not be willing to pay the remaining $6.4 million on his salary for the rest of the season. Owner Jerry Richardson does have a reputation for being frugal.
3. Chicago Bears
8 of 10
Jay Cutler has struggled to get the offense going in Chicago.
Perhaps the lack of a breakout threat is what's making him look horrible. He has spent way too much time in the pocket trying to decide what to do with the football. As a result he's been forced into making mistakes, either by getting sacked or throwing the ball away and causing turnovers.
Cutler once looked great with Brandon Marshall, how about him and Randy Moss?
2. Indianapolis Colts
9 of 10
After listening to Moss reminisce about his time with Patriots, it sounds like he's grown attached to winning and has a tremendous respect for teammates that know how to win.
There's no other quarterback in the league right now that commands as much respect as Peyton Manning.
Manning is a four-time NFL MVP and could always use another trusty target on his team. With Reggie Wayne and Randy Moss as the top two targets, Pierre Garcon could move to the slot and be a remedy to the Colts' shortage of pass-catchers.
The Colts have lost Austin Collie indefinitely and tight end Dallas Clark for the season.
Maybe Peyton and Randy could work.
1. Washington Redskins
10 of 10
After his fourth quarter benching, it's obvious that struggling quarterback Donovan McNabb could probably use another threat at WR. No disrespect to Santana Moss, but he is definitely not the playmaker that Randy is.
We know that the Redskins' owner, Daniel Snyder, has plenty of money to spend.
And Mike Shanahan was rumored to have at least toyed with the idea of adding Brandon Marshall to the team during the offseason.
Add to that McNabb's experience in dealing with a moody receiver in Terrell Owens and Washington could actually be the most likely team to make a waiver claim for Randy.
