BCS Week 9 Picks Against the Spread: What Does Boise Have To Do?
Here's a haiku:
If Ole Miss wins and
The Trojans shut down the Ducks
Boise still gets snubbed
What's up, pick fans! I just came back from the Sucka Free and watched the Giants take it to the Rangers for the second night in a row. I know at Da Picks we are all about college football, but this series is damn good. Who would have thought that the Rangers bullpen would be suckin' it up this bad?
If you are ever in the 415 to head to AT&T Park check out the 21st Amendment Brewery. The beer is awesome, especially the Brew Free or Die IPA, and they bottle(?) their brew in cans!
Anyways I am getting off track, it is Week 9 in college football and things are getting interesting to say the least. The Oklahoma Sooners were the latest No. 1 to be a victim of the ill-fated upset and it seems that once again the "upset" is reigning supreme.
This week there are a lot of matchups that could end the BCS dreams of many teams. Nebraska could beat Missouri, Iowa could beat Michigan St. and Ole Miss could pull the biggest upset of the weekend and beat Auburn which would make it four consecutive weeks that a No. 1 has fallen.
All I know is that it is going to be exciting and if the contenders want to get through Week 9 undefeated they have to read this.
Last week, I gave ya'll a six-game parlay for a big payday, but I ended up being 3-6. No worries, there is a reason why I am called the the "Premiere Oracle in Sports" and it 'aint for how fast I can guzzle 40s. So I am going to give ya'll a three-game parlay and a nice set of picks to make up for it.
It's gonna be a great Saturday, check out my boy Big Daddy and his power rankings and projections and then get ready for Da Picks. I also wanted to give a shout out to my homie JR Da Analyst, JR will be providing a three-game parlay for the top six teams this week, "big ups" for the collaboration!
On to DA PICKS!
Da Kahuna's Picks: Week 9
Three-game Parlay LOCK
Michigan Wolverines (-2.5) at Penn St. Nittany Lions
Sophomore QB Matt McGloin will be making his first start ever for the Nittany Lions as they face Denard Robinson and the Wolverines who are coming off of two straight losses. Penn St. can be suspect at times but they are still capable of pulling out a quality win. I just think with a raw QB and Michigan offense that can put it together, the Wolverines are going to get a W in this one and cover the spread winning by four.
No. 8 Utah Utes (-7) at Air Force
Air Force had a difficult time running the ball last week against TCU and this week faces a Utah D that is ranked tops in scoring D, rushing D and total D. The Falcons will again not have FB Jared Tew who is out for six weeks. This series historically has been a close matchup, but this year I don't think so. Utah covers the spread winning by 14.
No. 15 Arizona Wildcats (-9.5) at UCLA Bruins
The Cats D is playing lights-out right now and had a stellar game last week shutting out Jake Locker and the Huskies. Backup QB Matt Scott did a nice job filling in for Nick Foles and brings a mobility to the offense. UCLA is just having issues. Arizona covers the spread winning by 13.
Other Picks for Week 9
No. 1 Auburn Tigers (-7) at Mississippi Rebels
Ole Miss coach Houston Nutt is known for pulling off upsets against ranked teams on an annual basis. Jeremiah Masoli is putting up decent numbers and could ironically help out former teammates from Oregon by pulling the W here. Auburn will be traveling to a hostile environment and will have to play a complete game. Tigers QB Cam Newton has rushed for over 1,000 yards and is ballin' out of his mind. I think that this will be a close one and the Rebels will beat the spread and could pull the upset.
No. 5 Michigan St. Spartans at No. 15 Iowa Hawkeyes (-6.5)
The key to this game will be the Hawkeyes D getting to Spartans QB Kirk Cousins. Iowa does have a great matchup in their D-line against the Spartans running game. I say UPSET ALERT! The Hawkeyes know that they can not afford to lose again and will pull out the W and upset in Iowa City.
Louisville Cardinals at Pittsburgh Panthers (-9)
Cincinnati receivers tore up the Louisville secondary and it wont get any easier against the Panthers receivers. In addition the Cardinals are going to have to take care of RB Dion Lewis. Pittsburgh is playing good ball right now and should cover the spread winning by 10.
Clemson Tigers (-7) at Boston College Eagles
The Tigers are continuing to emerge as an ACC contender and RB Andre Ellington and WR Deandre Hopkins. BC will be missing their DE Alex Albright which will hurt them. I like Clemson to cover the spread winning by 10.
Idaho Vandals at Hawaii Warriors (-14.5)
The Warriors are looking like the UH teams under June Jones. QB Bryant Moniz and WR Greg Salas are a great combo and will be a problem for the Vandals D. Take into consideration that the game is in Hawaii, I like the Warriors to cover the spread winning by 17.
Big Daddy's Week 9 Power Rankings and Bowl Projections
1. Boise St: Continue to pound inferior opponents. Toughest opponents left: Hawaii and Nevada.
2. Oregon: Smacked UCLA around last Thursday night. Big game against USC on Saturday.
3. Auburn: Looking like the best SEC team right now.
4. TCU
5. Utah
6. Michigan St.
7. Alabama: Getting back to the basics.
8. Stanford: A complete team that still has dreams of playing in the Rose Bowl.
9. Missouri: It was nice to see them knock out Oklahoma.
10. Wisconsin: A great Big Ten resume.
Others to Watch: Wisconsin, Iowa
Projected BCS Bowl Games
NC:
Auburn vs. Oregon
Rose Bowl:
Michigan St. vs. Boise St.
Fiesta Bowl:
Wisconsin vs. Missouri
Orange Bowl:
Florida State vs. Pittsburgh
No one outside of these schools would pay money to see this lousy match up.
Sugar Bowl:
Alabama vs. TCU
JR Da Analyst's Three-Game Parlay
#2 Oregon (-7) at USC
Ducks 42, Trojans 28
Another game with gaudy offense. The Ducks will have 500-plus yards in offense. USC will not be able to keep up.
No. 11 Ohio State (-25) at Minnesota
Buckeyes 49, Gophers 0
Ohio St. is still smarting from their loss to Wisconsin-blanked Purdue. Minnesota is worse than the Boilermakers.
No. 17 Oklahoma St. (-4) at Kansas St.
Cowboys 41, Wildcats 34
The Cowboys have lost six straight trips to Kansas St. They break the streak in this one.
Alright, that's it. I hope everyone enjoys the games on Saturday and we'll check in next week at DA PICKS!
