Dallas Cowboys: What to Do When Tony Romo Is Healthy

Josh McCainOct 26, 2010

Just now over the Twitter wire, Michael Lombardi tweeted that Tony Romo's cat scan has comeback and his sources are saying that it appears to be 6-8 weeks that he'll be out.

At this very moment in time the Dallas Cowboys are 1-5 and have less then a one percent chance of making the post season.

Their next six games are, hosting the Jacksonville Jaguars, at Green Bay, at the Giants, home to Detroit and the Saints, and at Indianapolis (and if it's 8 weeks he's out until after they host the Eagles and Skins consecutively).

With Romo out I honestly can't see the Cowboys winning at Green Bay, New York, and Indy, and beating the Saints won't be easy.

So if Romo comes back after six weeks the Cowboys will probably have at least 8 loses and as bad as the NFC might be 8-8 won't get you into the playoffs as a Wild Card (might win you the West but sadly Cowboy's fans you play in the East).

On top of that you have Jerry Jones comparing this to an injury Troy Aikman once got and came back after 4 weeks, and he's hoping the same for Romo since it's not his throwing shoulder.

Newsflash Jerry, when this happened to Aikman he had a better offensive line that could keep him upright, Tony does not have that.

Also the Boys were in contention, there was a reason to rush Troy back.

These Cowboys are not in contention for anything accept a top five draft pick so why bring Romo back at all.

Honestly I don't know if there is a risk of a further serious injury to his shoulder if he hurts it again this season but when you're playing for nothing why risk any kind of injury to your franchise quarterback, especially if his first two games back would be against blitz happy Philly and Washington?

Jerry needs to stop pretending the ship can be righted this season and not even think about rushing Romo back, if at all.

Now I'll admit that there is a chance (however slim it may be) that in six weeks the Cowboys could be right back in the play-off hunt.

If that's the case roll the dice with Romo, but honestly they won't be.

Put him on IR and see what Stephen McGee can do since he'll be there next season and Jon Kitna might not be.

Maybe you'll get another Danny White out of the deal?

In the end it's not up to Wade Philips or possibly even Tony Romo, it's up to Jerry Jones, and if he really wants to put his team first and think towards the future he'll sit his franchise quarterback and start planning for next season.
