Patriots Vs. Vikings: Two Fractures in Brett Favre's Ankle—Trick or Treat?

Tony SantorsaOct 25, 2010

Breaking news via NFL.com states that Minnesota Vikings quarterback Brett Favre reportedly has two fractures in his left ankle.

Vikings head coach Brad Childress spoke with the media today and revealed the injury. The report of the injury is an avulsion fracture and stress fracture, and it will not require surgery.

In Childress' press conference today he did not rule Favre out for next weeks' game against the New England Patriots. However, he did say that Favre's consecutive game streak would not factor in the decision making.

From the New England Patriots' standpoint, I feel this is bad news.

Favre has not been the same quarterback as he was last year when he led the Vikings to the NFC title game. He has thrown 10 interceptions this season compared to his seven last year. He has been just shooting Minnesota in the foot nearly every game.

Simply, Favre just looks old. He is not the same quarterback, so Tarvaris Jackson might get the start at New England.

Jackson is a dual-threat quarterback and could cause many problems for New England. In reality, Jackson could very well be the better choice at quarterback for the Vikings.

The five-year veteran out of Alabama State has thrown 21 career touchdowns compared to 18 interceptions. Jackson is a winner, and he has the elusiveness to keep plays alive.

The news of Favre's injury will make game-planning a bit more difficult for New England because they now have to prepare for two quarterbacks.
