NFL Power Rankings Week 7: Jets No. 1, Packers Slide, Cowboys Keep Sinking
The NFL power rankings for Week 7 are in!
Aside from all the hard hits and concussions that happened over the past weekend, there's plenty of other football related news to discuss.
Quite a few quarterbacks were knocked out early. The Cowboys just can't seem to win, the Packers still managed to lose even with Aaron Rodgers, while the Ravens and Patriots had a tremendous overtime game.
Where does everyone rank? See for yourself.
Here it is!
32-23: The Bottom Ten
1 of 23
32. Carolina Panthers (0-5): They have two outstanding runners in DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart and they haven’t been able to utilize either—no wonder they keep losing.
31. Buffalo Bills (0-5): The bye week gives them time to plan against the big bad Baltimore Ravens; will Ryan Fitzpatrick’s arm be enough to lead them to a win? Doubt it.
30. San Francisco 49ers (1-5): Finally, a win in Week 6 gets them out of the bottom of this rankings, maybe there is still hope.
29. Cleveland Browns (1-5): They didn’t really stand a chance this week against the Pittsburgh Steel Curtains and the reckless tackling of James Harrison.
28. Detroit Lions (1-5): They’ve been battling injuries all season, now Shaun Hill is down—the upcoming bye week will be welcomed.
27. Dallas Cowboys (1-4): That’s a 1-4 season with about bazillion boneheaded penalties to blame—one more loss and someone’s going to get fired…Wade.
26. Cincinnati Bengals (2-3): This is a veteran team that needs to regroup and figure out their roles and responsibilities this year because they’re playing too poorly considering the talent they have on the roster.
25. Oakland Raiders (2-4): One big win against interstate rivals, San Diego, immediately gets erased by a big loss against Bay Area rivals, San Francisco.
24. Minnesota Vikings (2-3): Favre and the Vikes win their second game of the season, a big game against Green Bay is next—so when are they going to lay down the suspension?
23. Denver Broncos (2-4): The highlight of the week for Denver was seeing rookie Tim Tebow score his first touchdown of the season. With their running game still out of sorts, maybe giving them a goal-line and third-down mobile quarterback option is a good thing.
22. San Diego Chargers (2-3)
2 of 23
Two losses in a row and worst may still be ahead.
They’re expecting to be without their best wide receiver in Malcom Floyd this weekend. And there’s no confirmation if their most consistent pass-catcher tight end Antionio Gates will play.
Now that they’ll be facing Tom Brady and Patriots, the Chargers may be facing a third straight loss.
21. Jacksonville Jaguars (3-3)
3 of 23
Garrard’s early departure with a concussion caught the team off guard, at least one of his teammates admitted that they were pressing during his absence. Fill-in Trent Edwards, didn’t exactly give the team a vote of confidence with 2 interceptions.
Maurice Jones-Drew needs to step up this weekend, in case Garrard is still sidelined by his injury.
20. St. Louis Rams (3-3)
4 of 23
After losing Mark Clayton for the season, they find a way to bounce right back in a surprising win over the Chargers.
Steven Jackson got his run on and Bradford divvied up the receiving workload and may have just found a big target in Danario Alexander.
19. Arizona Cardinals (3-2)
5 of 23
After a bye week and a big win against the San Diego Chargers in Week 5, this Max Hall led team will head to Seattle for a big NFC West showdown.
Really, that’s what it has come down to early in the season, a showdown between Arizona and Seattle for the top spot in the division. Surprising, isn’t it?
18. Seattle Seahawks (3-2)
6 of 23
Whodathunkit? Marshawn Lynch and Justin Forsett got to relive their Cal glory days in the Seahawks backfield against the Chicago Bears.
This a wide open NFC West battle.
If there are enough players that are buying what Pete Carroll is selling, they just might make the playoffs this season.
17. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (3-2)
7 of 23
The young Bucs were given a spanking by the Super Bowl champs this weekend. This latest loss shows that they still can’t hang with the big boys.
They may have matured from last season but there’s still plenty of growing up to do for Tampa Bay.
16. Green Bay Packers (3-3)
8 of 23
The Pack are stumbling with two straight losses. And what’s next? Old friend Brett Favre and the Minnesota Vikings.
With the Packers losing momentum from injuries and the Vikings seemingly picking up steam, their showdown will be an excellent Sunday evening affair, as usual.
15. Washington Redskins (3-3)
9 of 23
Despite the loss this week, there’s really nothing to be embarrassed about. They hung in there against Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts.
Ryan Torain broke out against the Colts’ horrible run D but his big rushing performance may be short lived against the run-stopping Bears defense this weekend.
14. Miami Dolphins (3-2)
10 of 23
Many thought the Dolphins had a better shot beating the Packers without Aaron Rodgers. Maybe they did have a better shot but It turns out that they can win in Lambeau even with Rodgers.
Brandon Marshall had a great game with 127 receiving yards but he’s only found the end zone once this season. That needs to improve if the Dolphins are going to keep winning.
13. Kansas City Chiefs (3-2)
11 of 23
Two losses in a row for the Chiefs but they’re still leading the AFC West. Who would have thought that would be possible.
Cassell needs to come out firing in his upcoming games against weak pass defenses just like he did against the Texans.
By the way, did he forget about his tight end Tony Moeaki?
12. Houston Texans (4-2)
12 of 23
They notched a big come-from-behind win against the Chiefs late in the fourth quarter. With Schaub throwing the ball freely as he normally does to a much healthier Andre Johnson and Owen Daniels, they’re very formidable.
Add to that mix a run-happy Arian Foster and this offense is scary good. Too bad they can’t defend the pass.
11.Chicago Bears (4-2)
13 of 23
Jay Cutler is back but they lost to the Seattle Seahawks of all teams. This squad just didn’t look good.
Could it be possibly that Cutler is the one that’s hurting this team? He needs to figure out how to run Mike Martz’ offense right away otherwise, he’ll get sacked more often and the Bears will continue to lose.
10. New York Giants (4-2)
14 of 23
Other key players stepped up to carry the Giants to a win last Sunday with Hakeem Nicks catching only three passes for seven yards.
Brandon Jacobs rumbled to the end zone twice, snaking away carries from featured tailback Ahmad Bradhsaw. But his size is probably what they need near the goal line.
9.Tennessee Titans (4-2)
15 of 23
Even without Vince Young, the Titans still got it done.
For the second week in a row their underrated pass defense nabbed three interceptions.
And Chris Johnson was his normal outstanding self.
8.New Orleans Saints (4-2)
16 of 23
With their backfield still decimated by injuries, they may have found someone to the lion’s share of the workload in Chris Ivory.
Pierre Thomas, confessed that his ankle is worse than what he led people to believe and Ivory may get more run. Drew Brees was in complete control of the offense as Ivory set the tone.
7.Atlanta Falcons (4-2)
17 of 23
Matt Ryan showed up for their game against the Eagles but Michael Turner was missing in action.
And their pass defense was torn up by Kevin Kolb’s precision and the breakout ability of the Eagles players.
They may be among the best in the NFC but it wasn’t a good week for the Falcons.
6. Philadelphia Eagles (4-2)
18 of 23
First it’s Kolb, then it’s Vick, now it’s DeSean Jackson. Despite injuries, the Eagles still find a way to win. They are that deep and talented.
The way it looks right now, with either Vick or Kolb this team will figure out a way to get the W. Jeremy Maclin is more than capable of stepping up again as the number one receiver while Jackson is recovering from his concussion.
5.Indianapolis Colts (4-2)
19 of 23
If you’re a receiver in Indianapolis, Peyton Manning will find you. Pierre Garcon and Austin Collie have both thrived along with stalwarts Reggie Wayne and Dallas Clark.
The biggest difference this week was Joseph Addai’s 128 rushing yards—who hasn’t had a game like that since 2007. With the Texans coming in for a visit, expect more offense from the passing game.
4.Baltimore Ravens (4-2)
20 of 23
In a close game that led to overtime, the Ravens fell to a team who wanted it more.
They may have improved offensively and remain strong defensively but when the game was close, the Pats took it to another level and the Ravens did not.
That’s what they need to work on—desire.
3.New England Patriots (4-1)
21 of 23
Hey look at that, Branch comes back and looks as though he never left the team. He’s already Brady’s favorite target and was key in helping the team get the win.
Belichick just keeps getting the best out of his guys, take Danny Woodhead for example.
2.Pittsburgh Steelers (4-1)
22 of 23
They were clicking on all cylinders with Big Ben back at quarterback. Mike Wallace, Hines Ward and even Heath Miller got in on all the action.
Their running game looks great with Rashard Mendenhall and their defense has been outstanding this year. This is going to be a very, very dangerous team.
1.New York Jets (5-1)
23 of 23
There’s nowhere else to put this team but here. Mark Sanchez keeps improving every game.
Santonio Holmes adds another weapon in the offense, Braylon Edwards has been outstanding as has Dustin Keller. And LaDainian Tomlinson seems to have found the fountain of youth.
