Halladay vs. Lee: Pitching Duel Fantasy

Pardon My Bias Bleacher ReportOct 18, 2010

This whole MLB season, including the playoffs so far, has been focused on the pitching. With all the perfect games and no-hitters, it is obvious why it has been coined “The Year of the Pitcher.” These playoffs have also not disappointed, with Roy Halladay throwing only the 2nd ever playoff no-hitter, Tim Lincecum throwing a shutout with 14 strikeouts, Cole Hamels tossing a shutout and Cliff Lee continuing his postseason undefeated streak. There are so many pitching match-ups that could leave anyone drooling with excitement but only one can be elite.

There was a lot of hype placed on the Halladay-Lincecum match-up but it did not live up to the expectations. Both pitchers let up two homers, with the San Francisco Giants eventually winning 4-3. Now there are four potential pitching duels between the aces of each remaining team:

The Pitching Duel of All Pitching Duels

Out of all four match-up possibilities, there is only one elite pitching duel that stands out above the crowd. Halladay versus Lee. This is the match-up that I would be most excited to see. No disrespect to the other pitchers, but I feel as if the other match-ups are just so much less significant. Each of the four pitchers is in the top 5 for all of the major leagues but Halladay and Lee have this magic about them. Halladay was the biggest move of the offseason and was always the best pitcher on a garbage team until he was traded to the Phillies. Also involved in this huge deal was Cliff Lee, who was sent to Seattle. Lee helped the Phillies make their way back to the World Series last year and was the big move before the trade deadline, being sent from Seattle to the Texas Rangers. Think about that match-up, two of baseballs top pitchers, one who was replaced for the other. The Phillies could of found a way to keep both Lee and Halladay but now it could come back to bite them in the ass. I have no idea who would even win this duel but I really hope I get to find out. Halladay vs. Lee…put that on your wishlist.

This is just an opinion so please…Pardon My Bias
