Chiefs Loss Proves More About The Fans Than The Team
To be a loyal fan of a team in any sport can, at times, be exasperating. I have been a Chiefs fan for 40 years. The first football game I ever viewed was SB IV. The worst sports day of my life was when Garo kicked that Overtime field goal on Christmas Day 1973. The best day, unfortunately, was my first game.
I have seen coaches come and go. I have watched fans do the same. In this world of instant gratification why shouldn't we change our allegiances as often as we change our partners?
After Andre Johnson capped the successful Texans comeback with his touchdown grab, I felt the tide of the Kansas City faithful turn. Too many "get your hopes up" seasons do this. Look in Dallas and San Fran. The coffee being served at the Monday morning office banter is sugared with minimal hope. Two of the leagues best have collectively won less games than the Chiefs. Yet in a topsy-turvy NFL season there are many who argue they both may still make the playoffs.

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
The Kansas City Football Club up on Arrowhead Drive haven't been afforded the same hype. Improvement at best, would be a 5 or 6 win season. While that may still end up being the case. I think not. When you are a gladiator in the arena of discussion, you will find that there are many who oppose new ideas and concepts and heaven forbid the "C" word; CHANGE. Change for change sake never really fulfills expectations. Change with a positive plan of action coupled with the time to formulate that plan can be franchise changing.
If you are going to jump off this current bandwagon because of a loss to Houston in their own crib, just make sure you mark this date down under "S" for stupidity. This isn't "Martyball". It isn't a 180 degree turn on Vermiel's teams with all defense and no offense. And it sure isn't Herm Edwards politically correct "blame the last regime for my inabilities to know what I'm trying to accomplish here" ball. What it is, is the early -- very early stages of an unbelievable turnaround that is making the NFL sit up and take notice. What a draft they had. The coaching additions are making Todd Haley look like a genius. Even Derrick Johnson has been turned around. Don't worry about Cassell, If he isn't the guy, we'll know soon enough and they will get someone else in there. Something is brewing here, Something not seen in a long while. It is called building a franchise the right way.
Houston had been talked about as one of the elite teams before their defense tanked. Nevertheless their offense is a powerhouse. The Chief's played the previous game against Peyton and friends who seem to have Carte-Blanche to the playoffs and showed how far the team has come in a short time.
KC in not in either of those groups class yet. It is still a work in progress. This next few games are the test of whether they are a playoff caliber team this year. 9-7 could very well win this division. They could do just that, be 8-8 next year and be a much better team (schedule will be harsher). Sit back, enjoy, watch them build this team the right way. For those of you who remember, NE (formally Boston) were the laughing stock of the AFC for many years. A very familiar philosophy turned them around. A philosophy worth jumping on the bandwagon for.
