Wilpons Living Another Post Season Nightmare As Yanks & Phils Roll On.

anthony reccoppaOct 13, 2010

The Wilpons have to be just dizzy with disbelief AGAIN.  Another Halloween is upon us and the Mets ownership might relive the nightmare they went through last October.  Their (Mets)payroll is huge.  Their stadium is state of the art.  They have one of the best pitchers in baseball (Santana).  How can we all be subjected to this horror again? The Wilpons must ask themselves Why? Why? Why?

Yes fans, we have to hear about it too, and ask why? why? why?.  Some of us who read Fangora magazines might even watch it for the shear chill and gore of it.  A possibility of another World Series where there will be no team a Met fan to really root for.   I as a Met fan, and son of an old NY Baseball Giant fan (rip)  will be rooting hard for the displaced SF Giants to pull off the upset of the post season.   I will be hoping that the ghost of fabled Giant hero Bobby Thomson can help out his old team one more time.  Maybe pass on a sign or two to the hitters facing the toughest 1-2 pitching duo since Koufax & Drysdale.

The Wilpons, and Met fans this year had a triple whammy, as the BRAVES also made the post season in Bobby Cox's last year as field manager.   The same Bobby Cox who loved coming to Flushing to "flush" any dreams of a championship for us down the drain.  The same Bobby Cox who made Turner Field a house of horrors for the Mets since the place was refitted for baseball.   This year might have been one of the best jobs he did as manager as he took a tough young Brave team to the post season.   A team with a little over half the payroll our overpaid Mets had.  The Phillie lineup is stacked 1-8.  It seems that all of them are an automatic hit. An automatic RBI, an automatic homer.  The only thing the Giants have for them will be their pitching with Lincecum, Sanchaez, & Cain.  The lineup will have to come through with the same magic the Mets had in 1969.  Big hits from little players.

As for across town, the "Evil" empire laid to rest their charismatic leader George Stienbrenner.  They endured a horrific pitching year from high-priced starter AJ Burnett. And limped through the last half of the year to the post-season.  Also, El Capitan had his worst year as a pro.   But they faced the "right" team at the "right" time in the Twins, and destroyed them. The Yanks have a similar hex over the TCs the Braves have had over the Mets.  Now they face a Ranger team that they are much better than. And if the beat Cliff Lee, this will be over quickly.   Another trip to the Series, and business as usual.

Business as usual for a team that does it right year after year.  And for us Met fans, we will be ONCE AGAIN, looking through the toy store window.  Looking at something we haven't had a chance at since 2000. once again dreaming about next year.
