NFL Week Six Predictions: Picks For Every Game
The '72 Dolphins can pop the champagne early this year, as the Kansas City Chiefs fell to the Indianapolis Colts last week, leaving the NFL with no remaining undefeated teams.
This season has seen quite a bit of parity (Cardinals over the Saints, really?), but I still managed to eke out a 7-5 record last week with my picks against the spread.
Not great, but I'll try to step my game up this week.
Channeling my inner Ms. Cleo, here are my NFL Week 6 picks...
San Diego Chargers (-8.5) Over St. Louis Rams
1 of 13
San Diego Chargers (-8.5) Over St. Louis Rams
The Chargers, as usual, are underachieving to start the season, losing to the Raiders last week by virtue of poor special teams play.
The Rams on the other hand, looked good until getting absolutely demolished by the Lions last week, making Shaun Hill look like Peyton Manning in the process.
Philip Rivers is putting up unbelievable numbers, and he is simply too much for the Rams to handle, despite their defensive improvements.
Kansas City Chiefs (+4.5) Over Houston Texans
2 of 13
Kansas City Chiefs (+4.5) Over Houston Texans
The Chiefs, still 3-1, have been the NFL's most shocking team to date.
The Texans, at 3-2, have looked good for parts of the season, but were torn apart by the Giants last week.
Kansas City's now-elite defense will stifle the NFL's leading rusher (Arian Foster) and win what should be a close battle.
Baltimore Ravens (+3) Over New England Patriots
3 of 13
Baltimore Ravens (+3) Over New England Patriots
The Ravens have been looking like one of the best teams in the NFL lately, and they are certainly capable of stopping the Patriots explosive offense.
Look for Joe Flacco to exploit New England's porous secondary that gave up a huge game to should-be-backup Ryan Fitzpatrick, and lead the Ravens to victory.
New Orleans Saints (-4.5) Over Tampa Bay Buccaneers
4 of 13
New Orleans Saints (-4.5) Over Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The defending Super Bowl champs are shockingly 3-2, losing to the Max Hall-led Cardinals last week.
Ouch.
But remember, it's only Week 6.
Look for Brees and Co. to get back on track against an improving, but mediocre Bucs team.
Atlanta Falcons (+3) Over Philadelphia Eagles
5 of 13
Atlanta Falcons (+3) Over Philadelphia Eagles
The Falcons have been flying under the radar for some reason despite a 4-1 record which includes a victory over the Saints.
The Eagles are explosive, but the Falcons are much more solid all-around, especially with Kevin Kolb manning the helm for Philly.
Atlanta wins, but it will be close.
Detroit Lions (+10) Over New York Giants
6 of 13
Detroit Lions (+10) Over New York Giants
This is a matchup between two teams who showed some serious promise early on, but had been losing games they should have won (Calvin Johnson rule, anyone?)
But both teams put the pieces together last week, and won in blowout fashion.
The Giants are the better team, but their turnover woes won't be cured overnight.
The Lions have similar problems and should lose this game, but they have enough firepower to stay in it and lose by less than 10.
Pittsburgh Steelers (-14) Over Cleveland Browns
7 of 13
Pittsburgh Steelers (-14) Over Cleveland Browns
Roethlisberger is back.
And he's angry.
The Steelers have the league's best defense.
They will likely be facing Colt McCoy, who Mike Holmgren previously insisted wouldn't be ready to take a snap this year.
Yikes.
Take Pittsburgh, despite the two-touchdown line.
Chicago Bears (-7) Over Seattle Seahawks
8 of 13
Chicago Bears (-7) Over Seattle Seahawks
The Seahawks are good at home, but awful on the road.
They travel to Soldier Field for this one.
With Jay Cutler expected to start, the Bears should roll, although he may be shaky in his first start back from a concussion.
Take the Bears to cover, but just barely.
New York Jets (-3) Over Denver Broncos
9 of 13
New York Jets (-3) Over Denver Broncos
The Jets have looked every bit of the Super Bowl Contenders they think they are since their awful loss against Baltimore.
Denver has been putting up astronomical passing numbers lately, but the Jets own arguably the best secondary in the league.
The Broncos will have a whole lot of trouble scoring in this one, and the Jets should cruise to victory.
Oakland Raiders (+6.5) Over San Francisco 49ers
10 of 13
Oakland Raiders (+6.5) Over San Francisco 49ers
The Raiders impressively beat the Chargers with a combination of a little bit of offense, defense, a whole lot of special teams, and some pixie dust.
San Francisco has been keeping games close, but something just isn't right.
On paper, the 49ers should cruise.
But that's why they play the game.
Oakland is the mentally tougher team (you wouldn't guessed that a few weeks ago) and should grind out a victory, or at least do enough to cover the 6.5 points.
Minnesota Vikings (-1.5) Over Dallas Cowboys
11 of 13
Minnesota Vikings (-1.5) Over Dallas Cowboys
The Vikings couldn't do anything against the Jets on Monday night for three quarters, but then their offense erupted and they looked like a completely different team.
Favre made three impressive touchdown throws, and should torch the Cowboys, who have been a colossal disappointment so far.
The Minnesota defense also looked solid against the Jets despite losing, and they'll win this one outright.
Indianapolis Colts (-3) Over Washington Redskins
12 of 13
Indianapolis Colts (-3) Over Washington Redskins
The Colts haven't been overly impressive thus far, but they are still 3-2.
And they still have Peyton Manning.
Don't bet against Peyton in prime time, even against a Redskins team that just took out the Packers and Eagles.
Peyton will lead the Colts to victory on Sunday night.
Jacksonville Jaguars (+3) Over Tennessee Titans
13 of 13
Jacksonville Jaguars (+3) Over Tennessee TitansJaguars
The Jaguars are a surprise at 3-2 but David Garrard still hasn't proven that he is a capable starter.
The same exact thing could be said about the Titans and the struggling Vince Young.
This matchup between co-division-leaders is as evenly-matched one this week, and should make for a great Monday night affair.
Look for it to come down to the last possession as either team wins by a field goal or less.
Take the underdog here.
Last Week's Picks: 7-5
Overall: 7-5
