MLB Playoff Predictions: Who Will Win The 2010 World Series?

Sam WatkinsOct 6, 2010

After many grueling months of baseball, the 2010 playoffs are finally here. Yeah we all love opening day, and the Home-Run Derby, nothing compares to postseason baseball. At the end of August, I published another prediction article, but this article should be a little more accurate, considering the the playoffs have begun. So here are my 2010 MLB playoff predictions:

National League:

             Cincinnatti Reds vs. Philadelphia Phillies:

TOP NEWS

Washington Nationals v Los Angeles Angels
New York Yankees v. Chicago Cubs

Unfortunately, this Division Series has arguably the worst team in the playoffs squaring off against the best team in the playoffs. As much as I would love to see the Phils' knocked out right away, unless the Reds somehow beat them, it wont happen. I was optimistic going into this series, but that soon disappeared after Edinson Volques gave up four runs in the second inning of Game #1. I turned the TV off after this. So as much as I would like to see the Phillies eliminated, I don't think it is going to happen.

My Pick: Philadelphia Phillies in 4

San Francisco Giants vs. Atlanta Braves

For once, the team I am rooting for has the advantage, the San Francisco Giants. After their second best month of the season, the Giants have all the momentum going into this NLDS Series. WIth the best pitching staff in baseball consisting of 2 time Cy Young award winner Tim Lincecum, Matt Cain, and the future star Jonathan Sanchez, the Giants are in good shape to take the series from the Braves, and end the historic career of Bobby Cox

My Pick: San Francisco Giants in 3

American League :

New York Yankees vs. Minnesota Twins

Face it Yankee fans, the Twins are in much better shape than they were coming into last seasons ALDS. Even with Justin Morneau out (again), the Twins are a very strong baseball team, but strong enough to beat the slumping Yankees? My guess, yes they are. It won't be easy, but I think the Yankees pitching will crack under pressure, and Joe Mauer will lead the Twins to the ALCS.

My PIck: Minnesota Twins in 5

Texas Rangers vs. Tampa Bay Rays

With the Texas Rangers beating the Rays 5-1 today, you would think the Rangers would be in good shape to win the series, right? Wrong. Look who the Rays faced today, arguably the best pitcher in baseball, Cliff Lee. Though the Rangers are a superb pitching staff, I don't think they are good enough to beat the Tampa pitching staff. Expect some heroics from Evan Longoria and Carl Crawford

My Pick: Tampa Bay Rays in 5

National League Championship Series:

San Francisco Giants vs. Philadelphia Phillies

If this series happens, it should be a reflection on the entire 2010 season, amazing pitching. Without a doubt, these two teams have the two best pitching staffs in baseball. Though the Giants have the worst offense of any playoff team, I believe that their pitching staff will shut the Phillies down, leading the Giants to the 2010 World Series. The pitching, combined with a monster series for Buster Posey, should be able to take the Phils down in 7.

My Pick: San Francisco Giants in 7

American League Championship Series:

Tampa Bay Rays vs. Minnesota Twins

Like the NLCS, this would be a great series to see. The Rays trying to get back to the World Series , and the Twins trying to prove that they are a new baseball dynasty. Neither of the teams have amazing pitching staffs (with the exception of David Price), so it should come down to the stellar bats. I think that the Rays will fall to Joe Mauer, after they upset the Rays in 6.

My PIck: Minnesota Twins in 6

World Series

San Francisco Giants vs. Minnesota Twins

This one has the potential to be a classic. With the Twins bats vs. the Giants pitching, who knows what could happen? Tim Lincecum vs. Liriano? You would think the Giants would have the advantage, what about Aubrey Huff vs. Joe Mauer? A little more even now, right? Being a Giants fan, I truly believe that Buster Posey will lead the Giants to their first World Series win since 1954.

World Series: Giants in 7

I guess the only way we will know is to watch, and all eyes will certainly be on the baseball diamond. Should be a great postseason!
