NFL Week 4 Preview: AFC West

Ryan SullivanOct 2, 2010

An undefeated team that refuses to give the ball to its best players, another mix of Mile High disappointment, a team that just can't improve no matter how hard they try, and a Qualcomm defence that lacks quality—ladies and gentlemen, this is the AFC West.

Let's start things out with the Kansas City Chiefs.

Nobody in North America knows how this team is 3-0 so we're not going to waste our time on that. What's amazing though is thanks to a Week 4 bye, this team could be the last remaining undefeated team in the NFL.

While I'm sure the '72 Dolphins aren't shaking in their boots, bookies and bet makers are wondering what the hells going on?

To start Week 5, the Chiefs take on Indianapolis so most likely the madness will end. If they can find a way to work their two budding stars Dexter McCluster and Jamaal Charles into the works though, they will stand a chance.

The question of can their streak continue, rests in the answer of the question will Thomas Jones keep getting first string looks.

Looking at the Denver Broncos is like looking at the career of Lindsay Lohan. There was potential but somehow this team finds a way to keep digging itself a deeper hole.

The two bright lights they have waiting in the wings, Brandon Lloyd and Tim Tebow.

Lloyd had a tremendous Week 3, but is still not a shoo-in for the top receiver spot in the state of Colorado. The coaches need to do a better job of working him into the offense more often.

Speaking of which, the coaches and management need to pull their heads out of the turf and realize that Kyle Orton is not a good quarterback. You will see flashes of positives and a little improvement here and there but crucial time is being wasted.

Waiting in the wings is Brady Quinn and Tim Tebow. While there's still hope for Brady Quinn this offense is not suited for him. It is suited for a quarterback that's not afraid to run the ball, you have big receivers that can help with blocking and a decent offensive line.

While Tebow can run, his passing accuracy is a little off. Who are we kidding though, Orton is less accurate than poll results in Florida.

The Oakland Raiders are always good for one thing, a nice laugh.

It's one of those teams that will always try to improve at the sexy positions but not at the business positions. Yes, everyone loves a big quarterback that can sling the ball. He's useless though if your offensive line is inconsistent. The teams blocking shocks me year in and year out, they're not the worst but they're far from the best.

If Jason Campbell wasn't hurried constantly he may still be taking first string reps at practice.

Lets finish with the San Diego Chargers, where the weight of the world rests solely on Marcus McNeil's shoulders.

The massive once-holdout guard will be back in a few weeks and if he can't help this team break from mediocrity look for a change at the head coach spot.

Norv Turner has had ample opportunities and has taken the team further than previous coach Marty Schottenheimer, but has never taken this team to the big dance.

He came into the mix when LaDainian Tomlinson was just exiting his prime and had an efficient passer, runner, O-line, and solid defense for a few years and did nothing.

He couldn't get through to his players when he had a solid team, and now to start the decade it looks as if he can't get through to the remaining relics of those former division champ clubs.

His days could be numbered if the Chargers can't regain that premium status in their lackluster division.
