NFL Week 4 Power Rankings: Where Do the Philadelphia Eagles Belong?

Rob BeloteSep 30, 2010

NFL Power Rankings are a subjective thing, and rarely are two lists exactly the same.

At my site, www.GuysNation.com, I took a hard look at all 32 teams, compared their records, the average points they've scored and allowed per game, and their strength of schedule to come up with NFL Power Rankings for Week 4 in the 2010 NFL season.

One of the teams that was hard to place was the Philadelphia Eagles.

They are one of several teams who have started off the season with a record of 2-1, so I really had to compare who they've played, where the games were held, what the final outcomes were, and what's going on with their team.

The Week 1 loss to Green Bay is probably eating away at the soul of at least half of the Eagles fans. As a Washington Redskins fan who married a girl from Philly and went to school with a fair number of Eagles fans, I know what you're like.

Even after a 2-1 start, you're still having frustrating visions of a seven-point loss to the Packers, as well you should.

You want to be a playoff team, though half of you think you're going to end up finishing in last place of the NFC East this season, and when you host games this big against out-of-division opponents, you have to win. Even in Week 1, you have to make a statement and you have to step up.

It's one of the eight times that you get an advantage over the other team without any effort, the Eagles fans all over "The Link" providing the hostile environment. The Packers players made the trip, inconveniencing themselves and having to prepare in conditions less comfortable than home, and what do the Eagles do?

They waste it.

Strength of schedule counts for a lot, and how did the Eagles follow up their Week 1 disappointment?

They beat two teams who have historically been bad teams over the past few years.

Sure, the wins were on the road, but those two teams probably won't combine for 10 wins this season.

And you're proud of those victories?  I doubt it.

The Detroit win was only by three points, and the Lions didn't even have their stud quarterback in the game.

Jahvid Best tore up the defense for over 200 yards of combined rushing and receiving, scoring three touchdowns in the process. The Detroit tight end had over 100 yards receiving.

To do that, against the Lions? That's not something to be proud of, and I'm sure that most Eagles fans aren't proud of it.

Then what, a drubbing of the Jaguars down in smelly Jacksonville?

That doesn't prove anything. The only win San Diego has this year is by throttling the Jaguars, too.

So how do I compare the Eagles to the other 2-1 teams?

They're obviously not going to be above Green Bay, given their head-to-head.

The Falcons have taken care of business at home and in a rough divisional road game.

Tennessee's only loss was to an undefeated squad.

The Colts lost to a divisional opponent on the road.

The defenses for the Ravens and the Jets both look to be elite.

The Patriots offense looks like it can't be stopped, aside from playing the Jets.

The Bengals took care of business against the very tough Ravens.

Is it possible that I didn't even put Philly into the Top 10?

How do I think the Eagles stack up against the rest of the NFL in my Week 4 power rankings?
