NFL Prime Picks: A Weekly Series Devoted To Beating The Point Spreads 25-23 Now

Thomas MorelandSep 28, 2010

Due to a improved week of 10-6 last week against the line, I stand at 25-23  after two weeks in a row at 7-9 to start the season.

The underdogs were not so triumphant, but still be careful when dealing with home favorites of -2 or less as the visiting team may very well win the game.

The first game involves San Francisco at 0-3 traveling to Atlanta and battling the Falcons at 2-1. The number is 6.5 with San Francisco, of course, being the underdog.

It would not shock me to see the 49ers compete in this game. I can't call an outright win, but giving 6.5 points to a desperate team may be too many. Take the points and San Francisco.

The Jets are favored by 5.5 in Buffalo and this should be no problem. The Jets will use the running game a bit more, as the pass defense of Buffalo is adequate. Shonn Greene should have a decent day.

The Bengals are a lot better than their division rival Cleveland Browns and, even being the visitor, will cover the 3.5 points.

The Packers must be a bit angry and unsettled losing to Chicago last week and will take it out on poor Detroit. 14.5 is a big number. With Calvin Johnson and the emergence of Jahvid Best as a quality player 14.5 is too much. I like Detroit and the points.

Denver travels to Tennessee in an interesting match up of styles and quarterbacks. I don't see Denver being blown away by this team, so 6.5 points should be a great underdog bet with Denver this week.

The Rams are the favorites by half a point this week. The Seahawks will ruin your day if you go for this sucker play. If the Rams were home favorites in a real sense it would be three to four points. There is no confidence in the Rams at one half to one point.

Drew Brees and the Saints need a good outing as they have slipped a bit in the ratings with that last loss to Atlanta. What better way than to beat the next team down?

Wait! It's a division game with the Saints favored by 14.5.

Carolina has some good players everyone is giving up on early.Again, a division game with too high a number. Take the Panthers and make some easy dough.

The Ravens get one more shot at Pittsburgh without Roethlisberger and will take advantage of it. The points are not a problem with just 1.5 being given by the Steelers. Take Baltimore. The Steelers are not a 4-0 team without Big Ben.

The Colts have too much offense for Jacksonville to keep up and this is a big 8.5 point favorite I will take.

The Houston Texans come into Oakland looking for a quick win and to get out of town with no more injuries. Oakland has a tendency to be pretty competitive against good teams. Perhaps they can keeps this close at home. 3.5 is the number. Take the home underdog in this game. Go Raiders.

The Cardinals get 8.5 points against San Diego who is not impressing anyone quite yet. I also like Arizona to keep this game close into the fourth quarter. 8.5 seems like a gift in this one.

Donovan McNabb returns to Veterans Stadium, and the Eagles. The Eagles are a much more talented team than Washington and should be able to handle the emotion of the day and come away with a win. It's 6.5 points in Vegas as Philadelphia is a clear favorite to win this game.

I see nothing to refute that evidence.

The Bears are underdogs to the Giants by 3.5 points at the New Meadowlands. It seems no one believes the Bears are pretty good. Can they win this game? Yes they can. Will they win this game? No they won't! Take the Giants at home.

New England visits Miami on Monday Night Football and this is a pretty big game. One team will have a decent division edge when this one ends. Take Miami to hold on at home. It's pick it. No points.

Good luck to your fantasy stars and enjoy the NFL action this weekend.
