Fantasy Football Rankings Week 3: Quarterbacks
Three weeks of the NFL season have come and gone, and the fantasy football picture is starting to look a little clearer. I have ranked the Top Eight Fantasy Football Quarterbacks up to now, based only on their stats. While most of the big names are there, there also are a few surprises. And, no, Delhomme is not on the list!
1. Peyton Manning
1 of 8
This should come as no surprise, but the top quarterback so far has been none other than Peyton Manning. Through three weeks he has thrown for over 1,000 yards and nine touchdowns, with no interceptions. Look for more of the same from Indy.
1,013 Yards, 9 TDs, 0 Int.
2. Michael Vick
2 of 8
The biggest surprise on this list is Michael Vick. After Kevin Kolb went down with a concussion, Vick has led the Eagles to two wins, and has posted huge numbers while doing so. Vick has accumulated eight touchdowns, while throwing no interceptions. The biggest question that remains is...Can Vick keep this up?
750 Yards, 6 TDs, 0 Int, 170 Rush Yards, 2 Rush TDs
3. Philip Rivers
3 of 8
Philip Rivers has performed very well this year, problem is the Chargers have lost two of three. Fortunately, in the fantasy world, wins and losses aren't as important as stats. Rivers has more yards passing than any other QB in the NFL, and if his team continues to struggle, then his numbers will continue to be high as they will be forced to play catch-up. I like Phillip Rivers to lead the league in passing this year, because so far, the run game stinks.
1,087 Yards, 7 TDs, 4 Int.
4. Aaron Rodgers
4 of 8
Big things were expected out of ARod and the Packers, and they haven't disappointed. If not for 18 penalties on Monday Night, the Pack would be 3-0. Nonetheless, Aaron Rodgers continues to impress at quarterback, and with Ryan Grant out for the season, there is no sign of him slowing down anytime soon
759 yards, 5 TDs, 3 Int, 49 Rush Yards, 2 Rush TDs
5. Jay Cutler
5 of 8
The Bears are 3-0 and Jay Cutler is putting up great numbers in Mike Martz' system. Matt Forte is fitting into the Marshall Faulk role just fine; that means that the rushing numbers are weak, but the passing game is thriving. That is good news for those who were bold enough to take Jay Cutler as their starting fantasy quarterback. I admit, I had my doubts that he would succeed this year, and he has definitely proven me wrong up to this point. We'll see if the defenses get wise to these guys, but for now, Cutler looks like the real deal.
870 Yards, 6 TDs, 2 Int.
6. Kyle Orton
6 of 8
Yep, that is right, Kyle Orton is ahead of Drew Brees and Tom Brady. The Denver Broncos have been struggling this season, and their running game is weak, managing under 50 yards rushing against the Colts. The running back by committee features the injury plagued Knowshon Moreno, the castoffs Laurence Maroney, and Correll Buckhalter. Expect the Broncos to be behind a lot, and to be passing all game long. Expect Orton to continue to put up big numbers. As of now he is second in the league in passing yards.
1,078 Yards, 4 TDs, 2 Int.
7. Tom Brady
7 of 8
Tom Brady finally got rewarded with a big contract, now the question is, can he earn it on the field. The Patriots are still looking to find their identity, with a young defense and a running back by committee that has already lost two of the featured players from the previous seasons in Laurence Maroney and Kevin Faulk. What that means is, Brady is going to be passing a lot. Sounds like more of the same if you ask me: Wes Welker underneath and Randy Moss overtop. Brady has a bye in week 5, but after that, Brady owners should put him in and not look back.
758 Yards, 8 TDs, 2 Int.
8. Drew Brees
8 of 8
The defending Super Bowl Champions are a Garret Hartley kick away from being 3-0 and their offense seems to be rolling along just fine. Reggie Bush went down, but Lance Moore stepped up in his place. Brees was unanimously a Top Two Fantasy Quarterback before the season started, and although the stats aren't as freakish as some would like, he is doing just fine up to this point.
856 Yards, 6 TDs, 2 Int.
