Champions League Final Recap 📝

Champions League Matchday Two Preview, Group F: September 28, 2010

Joe LazarSep 27, 2010

Spartak Moscow vs Zilina

Spartak’s run of form hasn’t been great when it comes to Champions League matches; they’ve lost six and drawn five of their 11 matches on home soil, the joint worst run of all time. This is something that they will no doubt be hoping to change and a match up against Zilina does present itself as a pretty good opportunity to do so.

Zilina are an equally poor side when it comes to playing in the group stages of the Champions League. Only 28 percent of Zilina’s shots hit the target in their opening match, there are only two teams which can claim worse starts, Spartak being one of them.

This really is a match between two pretty poor sides; in some ways this match is a going to be a good way for somebody to salvage some pride throughout the group stages.

Chelsea vs Marseille

Drogba will be sitting out the last of his two-match Champions League ban, and the sooner he’s back the better for Chelsea. He has stated his disappointment at missing out playing against his old club.

The home side will be looking to sweep their blip against Man City under the rug, their first defeat of the season was against one of the worst teams possible, giving a glimmer of hope to one of the title pretenders. Ancelotti has stated that this is a very important match and it certainly is, winning here will go a long way towards solidifying their place in the next stage.

Marseille lost their opening match against Spartak which leaves them as Chelsea’s main opposition for first spot in their group. Marseille are likely to play an attacking match, which could play into Chelsea’s hands if they leave themselves over exposed at the back.

Marseille are suggesting that they are unfazed by Chelsea’s start to the season debating the fact that they have yet to demonstrate their prowess against some tough competition this season. At home though Chelsea should be the dominating force in this match up, Marseille may be better off hoping for a draw.
