WWE: An Analysis Of The Randy Orton Face Turn, Should He Be a Heel Again?
Randy has portrayed a heel for about 99 percent of his career. He has built his career around his heelish tactics. The problem is that when someone is a heel for so long, some people start to cheer for him anyways.
The same thing happened with Steve Austin in the 90's. Austin was a full-on heel, but the WWE fans began to cheer him anyways and WWE saw the potential in a blue collar anti-hero character and went for it.
Austin became hugely successful after turning babyface, but what was great about his turn was that his attitude and tactics never changed at all, he simply targeted the bad guys instead of the good guys.

Austin even occasionally attacked good guys, often times after offering a fake handshake. Austin's "Don't Trust Anybody" philosophy proved to be the thing that saved him.
Now Orton is in the same boat. Orton was a super heel, attacking anyone he thought was a threat. The problem was that people began cheering for the Viper, sometimes louder than his babyface opponents.
Orton's reaction every time he came through the curtain was that of a good guy, despite being the one who usually cheated.
The WWE saw the potential yet again for a bad guy to become an anti-hero. They allowed Orton to keep his same demeanor and attitude, but now he usually faces the heels of the Raw brand.
His actions haven't changed at all. When Darren Young helped him win a match, Orton RKO'd him. He is following the same path as Austin; he has no choice but to be the guy who fans cheer.
If Orton were to turn heel again, he would have to do something really despicable to make people hate him again, because Orton could drag out Mae Young and RKO her and people would still cheer.
I hope Orton stays face for at least another few months, as I have enjoyed his run as the good guy who attacks everyone who gets in his way.
What do you guys think of Orton's run as a face?
Sidenote, I know this is a sports website but I have to comment on how amazing the season premiere of Dexter was last night. Michael C. Hall is the best actor on television.
