You Again?: Five Reasons Why Packers Vs Bears Is Must See TV
When the Green Bay Packers visit the Chicago Bears Monday night on ESPN, it will mark the 180th time the two teams have met, and another chapter will be written in one of sport's greatest rivalries.
Aaron Rodgers and the high-octane Packers offense will look to have their way against one of the league's stiffest defenses, while Jay Cutler and the resurgent Bears look to derail Green Bay's Super Bowl hopes in prime time under the lights at Soldier Field.
If you need a reason to watch, here's five.
Aaron Rodgers vs Jay Cutler
1 of 5
Two young and extremely talented quarterbacks will be on center stage Monday night as Aaron Rodgers tries to get the Green Bay offense on track, while Jay Cutler attempts to continue his early season success.
Rodgers, one of the league's most talented quarterbacks, has had a pedestrian first two weeks. Though the Packers are averaging more than 30 points a game, Rodger's production has been less than stellar. Watch for Rodgers to put up some big numbers in this one.
Jay Cutler is coming off a dismal season a year ago, throwing a league-high 26 interceptions. However thus far, Cutler has shown flashes of what everyone expected when he was drafted four years ago, throwing for more than 600 yards and five touchdowns, while tossing just one interception. Keep an eye out for Cutler and the Bears' offense.
Clay Matthews is a Stud
2 of 5
Already in this young season, Clay Matthews has an eye-popping six sacks to his name. Not to mention twelve tackles and a forced fumble.
Matthews, who is in his second year out of USC, broke out on the scene last season racking up ten sacks in Green Bay's highly-touted 3-4 defense.
Look for Matthews to apply tons of pressure on Jay Cutler and the Bears' offense from start to finish Monday night.
Devin Hester on Special Teams
3 of 5
Yeah, he is still dangerous. So Devin Hester hasn't returned a punt or kickoff for a touchdown since 2007, he's due right?
Regardless, the always dangerous Hester has a ridiculous 11 return touchdowns in his short five-year career. Recently Hester has seen less touches on the punt and kick off return teams, but has been featured as one of Chicago's best weapons on offense, averaging over 18 yards per catch.
Whatever you do, don't leave the living room on fourth down, you never know.
Defenses: Chicago's #1 Ranked Run D Vs Green Bay's #1 Ranked Pass D
4 of 5
Something has to give Monday night when the NFL's best run and pass defenses take the field.
Green Bay's defense, which has only allowed 116 passing yards per game thus far, will try to outshine Chicago's wall up front, which has stuffed opposing ball carriers, allowing a measly 28 yards per game on the ground.
Keep an eye out for what the Packers try to do on offense, since they're missing running back Ryan Grant to injury, Brandon Jackson will start in his place.
Also, we will find out if Jay Cutler really has found his touch, if not I'm sure the league's best pass defense will expose the truth.
NFC North On the Line
5 of 5
So it's a little early to be talking about the home field advantage throughout the playoffs, but with the Detroit Lions occupying the basement of the North division at 0-3, and the reigning division champion Minnesota Vikings struggling at 1-2, Monday night's winner will not only walk away with bragging rights, but the lead in one of the league's toughest divisions.
Monday night will also mark both team's first division game of the season. Quick side note, the Packers won both meetings last season, including a dramatic last-second 21-15 victory at Lambeau Field.
