San Francisco 49ers Must Dump Dead Weight to Save Sinking Ship
The 49ers suck. They've sucked for over a decade now and haven't made it to a Super Bowl since the 1994 season.
While many of the "faithful" speak of a renaissance of years past, the truth is the 49ers are in the dark ages of a sinking ship lost at sea.
With every passing day this ship sails further away from the glory years of yore, and some MAJOR baggage will have to be cast off before any "faithful" can ever speak the word dynasty again.
New Owners Needed

The difference between Eddie DeBartolo Jr., who led the team to its five Super Bowls, and his sister and current owner Denise DeBartolo York and CEO Jed York is that Eddie actually knew what he was doing and Eddie actually cared.
Eddie saw the brilliance in Bill Walsh and let him sail the ship.
Once Walsh was on board, he attracted all sorts of coordinators, both offensive and defensive, who went on to win championships with other teams after being trained in the 49ers system.
Credit Eddie with all of it. It all starts at the top.
One possible replacement to buy the 49ers is Oracle magnate Larry Ellison, whose failed bid to land the Golden State Warriors makes him a likely candidate to bid on the Palo Alto-bound 49ers.
Not that you can force the sale of an NFL team; I think the Yorks owe it to the fans, however, to give another owner a chance.
New Head Coach Needed

I don't know what more we need to see from Mike Singletary.
While every coach has strengths and weaknesses, the 49ers banked on Singletary's considerable strengths of character to compensate for his glaring weaknesses.
Those weaknesses are game management and the X's and O's. Basically strategy is Singletary's weakness.
Singletary is the opposite of Bill Walsh and relies on discipline first, while Walsh implemented a system of play and put players on his team who would discipline themselves, like workhorse Jerry Rice.
Still, with discipline and motivation being Singletary's alleged strengths, we have seen anything but a disciplined and motivated team in all three games this year.
Game one saw an over-hyped 49ers squad quit five minutes before halftime on opening day, giving up 31 straight points.
Game two saw a motivated 49ers squad give away a game with four turnovers, three of them in the offensive red zone when the 49ers were looking to score.
Game three saw penalties at an alarming rate, mostly by an offensive line Singletary has personally selected, and not a lot of passion.
Mike Singletary's alleged strengths are evidently not transferred into the on-field play of the 49ers.
So now, Singletary is left with no game plan, no discipline, no motivation, and no wins.
It's time for Mike to go, and he needs to be replaced with some new blood.
Where can we go looking? Well, first thing is what are we looking for?
Like Bill Walsh, we need to look for an offensive-minded head coach a la Sean Payton or Bill Belichick. Our offense has been horrible since Terrell Owens and Jeff Garcia left and needs to be addressed.
The game is changing faster than ever, and the 49ers need a young head coach who is the future of the game.
If you can't pull another genius head coach out of the college ranks, then start looking at coordinators for the better offensive head coaches in the game, like the Denver Broncos did pulling Mike Shanahan out from under Bill Walsh a lifetime ago.
New Offensive Coordinator Needed

Jimmy Raye is giving Mike Singletary exactly what Mike Singletary asked for: a run first team that takes a long time to score and allows the defense to shine.
Raye's tenure as the 49ers' offensive coordinator has been marked by one word: inconsistent.
Oh wait, two words: disastrous.
Oh wait, I feel an outburst of Tourette's coming on...
We'll just say three words: frustrating.
Four words: boring.
This is why we need an offensive-minded head coach. The last two have been defensive-minded, so much so that they don't even seem to care about the offense.
I don't know who would replace him as coordinator, but the offensive head coach would go a long way in turning this thing around.
New General Manager Needed

The 49ers are the only team I know of operating without a general manager.
Well, who is going to fire Singletary if no one is the GM?
With all the work Singletary had to do in the draft this year without an active GM in place, it's no wonder the team is in disarray.
This comes down to ownership again. This is the front office equivalent of putting 10 men on the field instead of 11 every Sunday.
Another reason the Yorks need to sell the team...in the meantime, though, when can we see a new GM?
My vote is for Bill Parcells.
New Quarterback Needed

Alex Smith sucks.
On a personal note, all of you who defended him while I wrote articles begging the Niners to trade for Donovan McNabb and called me all sorts of horrible names, I'll accept your apologies in the comments section below.
You can make excuses or give reasons why he sucks, but the fact is the 49ers aren't winning with him, and it's time to give someone else a chance.
This is a harder nut to crack.
Many would say the answer is in the 49ers system already in Nate Davis. Mike Singletary doesn't think Nate is good enough, but I don't think Singletary knows anything.
Let's say it's not Nate Davis though...then who?
Maybe the 49ers will be so bad this year they get a high draft pick and are able to select another franchise QB, as they did with Alex Smith and busted.
That just doesn't feel right though.
Looking at the 2011 free agent list, there's really no one who sticks out other than Michael Vick, who would be an interesting fit with the animal rights zealots in San Francisco. Couldn't picture him as a fan favorite.
Maybe someone can perform a seance and get a scouting report from Bill Walsh for someone everyone else is overlooking.
Quarterback is such an important position, and I don't see an immediate answer.
I will say this though: The next time you have the opportunity to get a Donovan McNabb or Ben Roethlisberger in a trade, make the trade.
It All Starts at the Top

Even though this is just five things, this is a lot to change.
The 49ers need new leadership, from the ownership to the coaches to the on-field general.
The personnel is there for the most part to have success; it's the changes at the top that need to happen.
Until they do, the "faithful" can forget about a Super Bowl trophy, let alone another dynasty, and they will have to be content with 4-0 preseasons as a mark of success.
