Brandon Marshall Will Break Loose Against the New York Jets

Andy BaileySep 23, 2010

The Miami Heat weren't the only South Beach team to recently pick up a superstar or two.  Lebron James overshadowed the Dolphins offseason acquisitions of Karlos Dansby and All-Pro wide receiver Brandon Marshall.

At 2-0, the Dolphins are in first place in the AFC East and look like a serious playoff contender.

Their biggest acquisition was Brandon Marshall who has eclipsed the 100 reception plateau in each of the last three seasons.  In two of those seasons he played in 15 games.  He is easily a top 10 player at his position and may be the best receiver Miami has ever had.

His numbers through two games have not been spectacular but that is largely due to the style of football the Dolphins play.  Tony Sparano loves to run the football and has two very capable backs to do it in Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams.

This week, Marshall could be targeted more.  The New York Jets are coming to town and they are bringing their third-ranked run defense with them.  Miami will not be able to run as effectively as they did in their victories over the Buffalo Bills and Minnesota Vikings.

This is why Marshall was brought in from Denver.  He adds a new dimension to the Miami offense that simply wasn't there last year.  He will be able to get open against this Jets secondary.

New York is currently 22nd in the league against the pass and that was with superstar cornerback Darelle Revis.  Without him, Marshall is even more likely to thrive on Sunday.

I anticipate the Jets run defense to be as strong as ever and hold Miami's ground game in check.  The Dolphins will be forced to air it out a few more times than they usually do and many of those passes should be heading Brandon Marshall's direction.

Any fantasy owner who has Marshall this week is going to be very happy they acquired him.
