The Undertaker Should Remain Undefeated at Wrestlemania

Ian MaloneSep 23, 2010

Sunday's Night of Champions featured the Undertaker's return to the ring following his concussion which kept him out for most of the summer. While it was good to see the deadman back in action, his match with Kane left much to be desired. Even if it made sense to the storyline, Undertaker shouldn't have won. Kane carried the entire match.

If Undertaker's return told us anything, it's that the Deadman is not long for the WWE Universe. He is 45 after all.

The Undertaker has the most impressive streak in all of wrestling. He's 18-0. That's the way it should be when he calls it quits.

People have suggested that Undertaker should take a loss at Wrestlemania to enhance a younger talent. I don't disagree that Undertaker should do more to help younger talent get over, but that's not the right way to do it. If anything, beating the Undertaker could cause a backlash against whoever does it.

Then there's the argument that a legend should be the one to do it. John Cena, Randy Orton, and HHH are the only real possible candidates.

Let's look at them individually

  • John Cena: Superman. Top of the WWE. Which is why he shouldn't face Taker. He's got nothing to win by doing it. People who like him won't like him anymore. His haters on the other hand won't be too happy. He'll probably suffer an even bigger backlash then there is already.
  • HHH: Triple H has nothing to gain by this either. It would just come across as HHH using his connections to get a win.
  • Randy Orton: The legend killer is the only one I ever thought could actually beat the Undertaker.  But he's already tried. It shouldn't happen again.

A legend ending the Streak wouldn't just be disrespectful to the Undertaker. It would be disrespectful to Shawn Michaels, who failed to end the streak twice and retired because of it. When Mr. Wrestlemania retired, Undertaker became the last of his kind.

Undertaker is the only active wrestler who appeared on the first episode of Raw. His status is so far above every active star. It would be a tragedy if the Deadman's streak was ended.

18-1 belongs to the New England Patriots. Let Undertaker remain perfect.
