NFL Football 2010: Philadelphia Eagles Let Vick Off the Leash

Daniel DinunzioSep 22, 2010

Michael Vick has done his time and now is finally back as a starting quarterback in the National Football League.  After spending 18 months in jail on dogfighting charges, Vick has been granted a second chance that he plans to take full advantage of.

Vick's reaction to the announcement include this, "It's very gratifying right now, that I've worked myself back into a position to where I can help this football team win games and show signs of good faith."

He has always been a firm believer and now you can see why.

There is no denying the speed and athleticism of Michael Vick.  What is even scarier about him now is his presence in the pocket as a passer.

He has young wideouts in DeSean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin around him.  They are both fast and have terrific hands.

LeSean McCoy has become the featured back in Philadelphia and he should help give Vick protection in the pocket.

This Eagles team has a banged-up offensive-line, and Vick's agility to move around when he drops back to pass adds another dimension to the Eagles offense.

Andy Reid was fully aware of what the implications where when he decided to trade McNabb to a division rival.  He thought that Kevin Kolb was the answer, but Vick has always been there.  The Eagles took a major risk on him after he came out of jail, but it is now Vick's stage to shine on.

He believes he has developed into a better passer than ever.  He is not always looking to run first, but if he has to escape the pocket he can.

Michael Vick has made the transition from what many people thought was a running back playing quarterback to a legitimate NFL Passer.

He has looked sharp early on this season.  He almost led the Eagles from behind in a Week 1 loss against Green Bay.  He played brilliantly last week on the road in Detroit. He threw for over 250 yards and 2 touchdowns.

The NFC East race is wide open and Philadelphia has finally realized that if they want to go to the playoffs, Vick is the quarterback that has to be under center.  His teammates have rallied around him and he has remained positive through this entire experiment.

Whether it was having his own package of plays or coming in as a decoy, Vick never once complained. He knows that he paid his time and that his time would come.

Whether it was this soon?  Nobody really knew, but this Sunday, Vick will make his second straight start for the Eagles.

Vick told Peter King that he believes his game is 10 times better then it was in 2006.  Vick is explosive and still has plenty of arm strength.  The Eagles front-office rolled the dice on Vick and he has been successful thus far.

There's no telling how far Vick can take the Eagles, but he did make it to the NFC Title Game against Philadelphia in 2004.

Vick has gone through a lot over the last few years.  He paid his time and did his service to the community.  He is now back on the football field where he belongs, making plays and scoring touchdowns.

What an amazing comeback Vick has already made.  There are probably a lot of people rooting against him, but after everything he faced I want to see him go out there and be the electric Vick that earned the No. 1 draft pick in the 2001 draft.

Vick, who just turned 30 in June, still has plenty of football left in him.  He has finally been unleashed, and Vick 2.0 has the potential to be better than ever.

Keep your eyes on number 7 come Sunday.  He's sure ready going to be on a show when Jacksonville steps on Lincoln Financial Field.

Jack Del Rio better have his players ready, or it could be a long afternoon.

Vick will continue to move forward with his second chance.  One that has granted him the starting quarterback job of the Eagles through his faith, hard work, effort, and play on the field.
