Kenny McKinley Reportedly Commits Suicide
Bryan BrackneySep 20, 2010
Josina Anderson of FOX 31 in Denver is reporting that Denver Broncos wide receiver Kenny McKinley has committed suicide. McKinley was found dead in Arapahoe County, Colorado today. McKinley was 23.
Andrew Bondarowicz, McKinley's agent told FOX 31 that was in Atlanta visiting family, and then flew back to Denver last night.
McKinley was drafted in the 5th round out of South Carolina last season, and he has struggled to stay healthy. He was on injured reserve with a knee injury. McKinley's primary role was on kick and punt returns.
'Everyone with the Broncos is shocked and saddened by the loss of Kenny McKinley," owner Pat Bowlen said in a team-issued release. "He was part of the Broncos' family and will be greatly missed by our organization. My most heartfelt condolences go out to Kenny's family and friends."
Broncos head coach Josh McDaniels echoed Bowlen. "Kenny had a promising future on the football field, but more importantly, he was a great teammate whose smile and personality could light up the room. This is a tragic loss for our football team, and his family is in all of our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time."
McKinley is the third Broncos player to die in four years, joining running back Damien Nash and cornerback Darrent Williams.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to McKinley's family, friends, and teammates.
