NFL Power Rankings, Week 3: Minnesota Vikings and Dallas Cowboys at 0-2

Jordan SchwartzSep 21, 2010

1. (1) New Orleans Saints (2-0)

The Saints are 31st in rushing offense and they just lost Reggie Bush; but they still have Drew Brees.

2. (4) Green Bay Packers (2-0)

Clay Matthews' six sacks are two more than anyone else in the NFL.

3. (7) Pittsburgh Steelers (2-0)

Lawrence Timmons is second in the league with 26 tackles, James Harrison is third with three sacks and the Steelers had seven takeaways vs. the Titans. It really doesn't matter who's at quarterback.

4. (12) Houston Texans (2-0)

Gary Kubiak looked like an idiot when he elected to punt from the Redskins' 34 in overtime, but then looked like a genius when he called timeout right before Graham Gano converted a 52-yard field goal. Washington's kicker missed the second attempt and Houston went on to win. Of the 469 dumb rules in the NFL, the coach-calling-timeout-right-before-the-field-goal-snap has to be up there as one of the worst.

5. (13) Indianapolis Colts (1-1)

Not many were surprised to see big brother rule the day on Sunday night.

6. (15) Miami Dolphins (2-0)

The Dolphins forced four turnovers from Brett Favre and the Vikings en route to becoming the only 2-0 road team in the NFL.

7. (18) Cincinnati Bengals (1-1)

The Bengals' offense is still having trouble getting into the end zone when it matters, but Cincinnati's defense did a number on Joe Flacco and the Ravens, picking off four passes.

8. (5) Baltimore Ravens (1-1)

This was supposed to be the year that the Ravens' passing game took flight, but Flacco has thrown just one touchdown and five interceptions.

9. (9) New York Jets (1-1)

Mark Sanchez set career highs with 21 completions, three touchdowns and a 124.3 quarterback rating vs. the Pats.

10. (2) New England Patriots (1-1)

Randy Moss made one of the most incredible touchdown catches I've ever seen vs. the Jets, but the Patriots rank 24th in rushing offense at just 85 yards per game.

11. (14) Atlanta Falcons (1-1)

Michael Turner, who rushed 19 times for just 42 yards in Week 1, was shown up by Jason Snelling, who racked up 186 total yards and three touchdowns in Week 2.

12. (10) Washington Redskins (1-1)

Donovan McNabb proved what he can do with 426 passing yards, but the Redskins' defense got lit up by Matt Schaub.

13. (6) Tennessee Titans (1-1)

Leave it to Pittsburgh's defense to force seven turnovers and snap Chris Johnson's streak of 11 straight 100-yard rushing games by holding the back to a paltry 34 yards.

14. (3) New York Giants (1-1)

The Giants have allowed the second-most points in the league.

15. (20) Kansas City Chiefs (2-0)

The Chiefs average 18.4 yards per punt return, the second-highest in the NFL.

16. (21) San Diego Chargers (1-1)

After going just 4-for-15 on third down vs. KC in their opener, the Chargers converted four of eight attempts on their way to racking up 38 points against the Jaguars.

17. (16) Jacksonville Jaguars (1-1)

After a 138.9 QB rating in Week 1, David Garrard came back down to earth with four interceptions on Sunday.

18. (17) Philadelphia Eagles (1-1)

Michael Vick's quarterback rating is 105.5 and Kevin Kolb's is 56.3 so, naturally, the Eagles are starting Kolb in Week 3.

19. (26) Denver Broncos (1-1)

Top draft pick Demaryius Thomas debuted with eight receptions for 97 yards and a touchdown.

20. (25) Chicago Bears (2-0)

Jay Cutler has the highest QB rating in football, but I have a hard time putting the Bears much higher than 20th after a ridiculous rule helped them steal a victory from Detroit in Week 1.

21. (8) Minnesota Vikings (0-2)

Here are some of the quarterbacks with a higher rating than Favre right now: Trent Edwards, Jake Delhomme, Derek Anderson, and Seneca Wallace.

22. (11) Dallas Cowboys (0-2)

Dallas is averaging just 69.5 yards per game on the ground, tied for fourth-worst in the league. That's kind of surprising with Marion Barber, Felix Jones, and Tashard Choice in the backfield.

23. (23) Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2-0)

The Bucs are 2-0! But their wins are over Cleveland and Carolina.

24. (22) Arizona Cardinals (1-1)

OK, that's more like it for Anderson: 17-for-31 for 161 yards, no touchdowns and two interceptions.

25. (19) Seattle Seahawks (1-1)

The Seahawks have lost 17 of their last 20 road games.

26. (31) San Francisco 49ers (0-2)

Alex Smith looked tremendous on that fourth-quarter drive that tied the game at 22, but they couldn't stop Brees all night.

27. (24) Detroit Lions (0-2)

Jahvid Best is tied for the league lead with four rushing touchdowns, but the Lions are 0-2.

28. (32) Oakland Raiders (1-1)

Darren McFadden is second in the NFL with 240 rushing yards.

29. (27) Buffalo Bills (0-2)

This is two straight weeks that the Bills have the worst offense in the league, and it's not even close. They're averaging 64.5 yards per game less than the next-closest team, which happens to be the 2-0 Steelers. Have I mentioned how good Pittsburgh's defense is?

30. (28) Cleveland Browns (0-2)

Nine penalties for 78 yards cost the Browns in a two-point loss to the Chiefs.

31. (29) St. Louis Rams (0-2)

The Rams have lost 27 of their last 28 games.

32. (30) Carolina Panthers (0-2)

The Jimmy Clausen era begins this weekend in Carolina.
