NFL bettors look for Giants, Titans to rebound in Week 3

Walker DanielsSep 20, 2010

NFL bettors watched Tennessee and the New York Giants struggle badly in Week 2 of the NFL regular season, and the two will aim to get back on track when the Titans head to the New Meadowlands on Sunday.  Both won their opening games with convincing performances but lost in their second contests, setting up a weekend battle to reach 2-1.

Titans-Giants Betting – Sunday, September 26th, 1:00 PM ET

The Titans (1-1) turned the ball over a whopping seven times in a 19-11 loss at home against Pittsburgh with Vince Young responsible for three of them before he was benched in favor of Kerry Collins.  Young was 7-of-10 for 66 yards and a pair of picks, losing a fumble as well.  Young doesn’t look like the guy that NCAA football betting players watched roll through the country when he was at Texas: he looks like a guy who is always looking over his shoulder, unsettling for a quarterback that has dealt with confidence issues during his NFL career.  Chris Johnson also had his streak of 100-yard games stopped at 12 as the Steelers held him to 34 yards on 16 carries.

The Giants (1-1) fell flat on their face in the “Manning Bowl II”, falling 38-14 to Indianapolis.  Eli Manning was badly outplayed by older brother Peyton, going 13-of-24 for 161 yards, two touchdowns and a pick, but that was not what kept the Giants down.  The Giants dared the Colts to run on them by employing a soft 4-3 defense throughout the game, as they were dead-set on not letting Peyton destroy them. The result: the Colts ran for 160 yards.  It was an admirable try, but the Giants couldn’t stop the Colts’ ground game by playing five and six defensive backs for the entire game.

The Giants should be favored at home if you’re going to bet on NFL odds, even though they’ve lost all four meetings with the Titans since they moved to Tennessee.  The Giants should go back to more of a normal defensive scheme to rein in Young and Johnson; particularly Johnson because, if you stop him, that puts a lot of pressure on Young, and we are not sure how he will deal with it.  The Giants need something good to happen as they were wiped all over the field by the Colts, and they have got to get the ground game going, especially Brandon Jacobs.  When the massive running back is on his game, he’s a load to bring down, and that will open up the play-action pass for Manning and an incredibly talented and young group of wide receivers.  We’re betting on the Giants to come back strong and put up a good win this week.
