Sam Bradford and Steven Jackson, The Perfect Combo?
For the second consecutive week the Rams literally threw the game away.
Wait, let me clarify, Sam Bradford did not throw the game away, Rams coaches did, when they forgot about Steven Jackson and expected the 50 million dollar kid try to win it all by himself.
Bradford threw the ball 55 times in week 1 and the play calling went 70-30 in favor of pass.
Against Oakland he had 25 pass attempts and the calls went 54-46 in favor of pass.
The Rams touchdown drive in the 2nd quarter occurred because Jackson touched the ball 4 of 6 times and contributed 81 of 89 yards.
15 of his 19 carries transpired in the 1st half. Jackson had 4 carries and 1 reception in the 2nd half; the offense stalled, not even close to enough touches for an All Pro caliber running back.
Very inconsistent and unbalanced.
Since 2000, 7 QB's have been drafted # 1 overall.
2001: Michael Vick
1 of 8
Drafted number 1 overall out of Virginia Tech.
Warrick Dunn was his primary back during his first full season.
Dunn went to the Pro Bowl in 1997 and 2000.
2003: David Carr
2 of 8
David Carr attended college at Fresno State,
Domanick Williams was the teams featured back Carr's first full season under center.
You may be asking yourself who Domanick Williams is, don't worry, I was too.
2004: Eli Manning
3 of 8
Manning attended college at Ole Miss.
He was obtained via trade from the San Diego Chargers for Philip Rivers.
Manning started 7 games in 2004 filling in for future Hall of Fame inductee Kurt Warner.
Tiki Barber was the primary back during Manning's first full season (2005).
Barber went to the Pro Bowl in 2004.
2005: Alex Smith
4 of 8
Alex Smith attended the University of Utah
It was thought either Smith or Aaron Rodgers would be the number 1 pick. When Smith was drafted, it Rodgers fell down the board to Green Bay at 24.
Frank Gore was a rookie during Smith's first season (200) and went to the Pro Bowl.
2007: JaMarcus Russell
5 of 8
Russell attended college at LSU.
His featured back was Justin Fargas.
It didn't matter who his RB was, the guy was destined to fail.
2009: Matthew Stafford
6 of 8
Stafford attended college at Georgia.
His feature back was Kevin Smith who was replaced in 2010 (2nd season) by Cal RB Jahvid Best.
2010: Sam Bradford
7 of 8
Bradford attended Oklahoma
Steven Jackson is the Rams featured back in 2010.
Jackson went to the Pro Bowl in 2006 and 2009
Upon Further Review
8 of 8
Of those 7 names, 3 of them had been voted to Pro Bowl (Barber +Dunn+ Jackson).
and
Only 1 of them had won a Super Bowl (Dunn).
Great quarterbacks make good running backs great. As you can see, it's not every day a rookie QB enters the league with an established Pro Bowl runner lining up behind them.
What do you guys think? Does the Rams offense need more SJAX? Or do you think agree with the Rams coaches who only think PASS, PASS, PASS?
