Jay Cutler and Mike Martz Make Love in Big D
Sunday, September 19th, 2010, or as I will call it, doomsday for opposing defenses. The Chicago Bears beat the Dallas Cowboys because of defense but also because of making big plays on offense when they needed to. The Bears were only 1-11 on 3rd down, but still came out with a victory and left the Dallas Cowgirls, I mean Cowboys stunned and dazed. Jay Cutler has been the most efficient quarterback through 2 weeks with the help of Mike Martz. They both seem to be in sync with each other and a lot of wins can happen that way, just ask Kurt Warner.
In the next few slides, I will go over why this new offense will not be stopped.
Da Man QB Jay Cutler and Mike Martz
1 of 3
Quarteback Jay Cutler and Offensive Coordinator Mike Martz have been the best duo in football so far this season. During the game Sunday at Cowboys Stadium, it looked like the Bears offensive line had no answer for the "stout" defense of the Dallas Cowboys. Then on a roll out by Cutler, LT Chris Williams was knocked out the game with a hamstring injury. After that play, you could see Cutler say, "Can we block anybody" or something of that matter.
Well the offensive line listened and so did Mike Martz. Instead of making Cutler do 7-step drops, make him do 3-4 step drops and get the ball out quick to his wide receivers, running backs, tight ends and not the opposing defense. The plan worked brilliantly, with a 39-yard touchdown to Greg Olsen. The Cowboys defense was reluctant to stop blitzing and that ultimately hurt them. Cutler torched them on short completions all day. Cutler was 18-21 for 3 touchdowns and a passer rating of 143.8 on passes 10 yards or less. The were able to adjust and win the game while the Dallas Cowboys continued to believe that blitzing while Cutler is throwing short passes.
Mike Martz knew coming into this season that he had to make Cutler believe his system. And sure it didn't look like it was going to work if you looked at the preseason games, but now all the doubters have turned to believers, thanks to the magic Martz and Cutler are creating.
No #1 Receiver, No Problem, Unless You're The Opposing Defense

If you watched any part of the game Sunday, or just even the highlights you could tell that Cutler was not trying to lock onto one receiver, unlike last year when he would lock onto one guy and then try and force it into a tight spot. The receivers are running routes better this year and they believe in Cutler and Mike Martz. They know where to be for most of the game and they know they need to bring everything they have every Sunday if they want this offense to click.
Devin Hester, Greg Olsen, and Matt Forte caught Cutler's throws for touchdowns, unlike last weekend when Matt Forte had both his touchdowns. Cutler has been spreading the ball to all of his wide receivers, which has been getting defenses off-balance, because they never know who is going to be the "hot route" receiver and who the secondary and third receivers are.
These wide receivers are not greedy. They dont always need the ball unlike guys like Randy "Slouch-no-more" Moss. They know if any one of them gets greedy, the offense wont flow right. If you were to tell me who the number one receiver was on this team, I do not think anyone could. Devin Hester has been the "#1" for the last couple years, but we all know he isn't a true "#1", at least not yet, but what happens when you lock him down, you have to deal with Greg Olsen, Johnny Knox, Devin Aromashodu, Earl Bennett, and Chester Taylor.
This group is underrated, but that seems to be the way they want it to be.
We Were Supposed to Lose, But Won Anyways

People were saying the Bears couldn't run a Mike Martz offense. People said the defense wasn't like the ones that could create turnovers. The Bears are underdogs until they prove to everyone that they have the tools to b e a playoff team.
They won in week 1. Thank you Mr. Rule Book.
They won in week 2. Thank you to Mr. Phillips great defensive mind to keep on blitzing.
The Bears have won the game they were supposed to at home, and the one they weren't supposed to in Dallas. They are now 2-0 and have a true test coming up this Sunday to see how good this team really is. The Green Bay Packers are next on the Bears schedule. The Packers bring a ferocious defense and one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL in Aaron Rodgers. We will once again, be the underdog, but will look to be 3-0 after the game.
If the Bears can win this game, they will finally get the recognition that they deserve.
So Bear Down Bears Nation and lets show the Packers that the top team in the NFC North is Da Bears.
