WWE Night Of Champions Aftermath: Burning Questions Heading Into Hell In a Cell

Buzz M.Sep 20, 2010

Hello, Buzzers. Buzz is back.

Night of Champions is now over, but the action is not. Hell in a Cell is less than two weeks away, so RAW and Smackdown episodes will be full of announcements in order to follow up the action.

First, I'll have to admit that NOC was a good PPV especially if compared to all the PPVs that followed Wrestlemania 26.

The end of the night sure left a lot of mind boggling thoughts and questions to consider as the road to the next PPV draws closer.

In the following slides I'll try to analyze the aftermath of NOC battles.

All said and done, let the show begin.

Are WWE Officials Still High On CM Punk?

1 of 14
Is this the end of Punk?
Is this the end of Punk?

What's going on with CM Punk? Seriously, I'm lost when I think about his status.

On one hand, he looks awesome in his promos and makes you feel that he's the top superstar in this organization.

But on the other hand, he's looking more pathetic week after week, match after match, and feud after feud.

He founded a stable that was supposed to be promising, and I think that this is the tenth time I say this, but it was never allowed to make any impact.

After SES fell, I thought he would be back on the right track.

However, he was destroyed by Big Show at NOC. WWE even made him cut a promo to make his hometown fans boo him before the match.

I'm not with people who think that he might be gone soon. But he's absolutely not his best days.

I'm not sure if I could say that WWE aren't high on Punk. They created a stable for him, and it's not over yet. At least not officially.

So what's next for the Straight Edge superstar? Will he be able to make a huge comeback? Will SES be reformed with new blood added to it? Or will he continue to look like the joke he is right now?

Could Big Show's Next Feud Be For Gold? The Intercontinental Championship Maybe?

2 of 14
Big Show seems unstoppable
Big Show seems unstoppable

Though many people might not care for Big Show, but I'll have to say that he's been looking good ever since he was drafted to Smackdown. I'm sure no one can argue with that.

Even before joining Smackdown, Big Show was part of two successful tag teams, Jerishow and Shomiz. But his run on Smackdown was good too.

First, he was named as the number one contender for the World Heavyweight Championship. Jack Swagger was the Champion at that time.

During the feud, Show clearly dominated Swagger and even defeated him in the title match. However, the victory was by disqualification, so he didn't win the strap.

Next, he was part of the Fatal Four Way match which was won by Rey Mysterio. He was also part of the Money in the Bank match, and he even brought his own special ladder to the match.

Since then, he has single handedly humiliated and destroyed the Straight Edge Society on several occasions. At NOC he crushed the leader of the group.

People might think that I'm reading a lot into things and that Show was just a filler, but I disagree. No filler can be so dominant like he was.

Now, if WWE want this feud to go on, then we should expect another match for the duo.

However, if this feud is over, then Big Show might be having better things waiting for him.

As we all know, Dolph Ziggler's feud with Kofi Kingston should be over by now. So I won't be surprised to see Big Show the next contender for the IC Title.

Most faces on Smackdown are involved in various feuds, and he'll be the only one left.

I don't think he'll go for the World Title because Kane and Undertaker are likely to go on with the feud.

He could even form a tag-team with Kofi Kingston and feud for the tag-team titles.

So what do you think is next for Big Show? Will he be the next contender for the IC strap? If yes, will he win? Or will he just put Ziggler over.

"Hit Or Miss?" Is This The New Booking Policy For The Tag-Team Titles Matches?

3 of 14
The new champions
The new champions

First, let me say that I have no problem with Cody Rhodes and Drew McIntrye pairing. They look good as a team.

However, I can't believe that we just watched a mind-boggling, head-scrathing, and trash-booked tag-team match as such.

Seriously? Four squash matches in less than ten minutes? Why didn't they just make the match that occurred on Smackdown as the PPV match?

Why did they wait till the PPV to announce the match? Was it because they didn't have any specific idea? Do WWE officials have any serious plans for those titles?

Furthermore, why were the Hart Dyasty made look so weak in the match? Why did they lose so fast? And why do WWE insist on making a joke out of Santino Marella and Vladimir Koslov? What about the USO's? Did WWE bring them to kill them?

Evan Bourne and Mark Henry looked good together, but it was obvious that Rhodes and McIntyre were heading towards the victory.

Come on, WWE. It's not hard to improve the tag team division and create some feuds. You do have some unused teams. Just make some matches between the teams to determine the number one contenders, and then make the winners feud with the champions for a while. It won't hurt if you add a storyline to the feuds.

But instead, you're just throwing your teams in randomly booked matches with no specific purposes behind them. And as usual, with all the teams you have, you just decide to create a new paring and give them the gold.

Again, I have no problem with this new team, but the whole division looks odd.

Where are the Dudebusters and the Gatecrashers (Hawkins and Archur)? Aren't those legit teams who can help build more feuds?

I'm not sure if I can give any prediction for this division because it might be long before you watch another title match.

NOC is a night where all champions should defend their titles, and that's why WWE were obliged to book a tag team titles match. But who knows? We might not see another match within the next two months.

Are We Witnessing The Era Of Michelle McCool? Will Laycool Split Soon?

4 of 14

For the first time in months, the Divas match had some meaning, and it wasn't just a filler as many used to call it. The two Divas were looking good.

However, there are some few things that should be mentioned here.

First, it seems that WWE's focus is on few Divas only. There are many Divas in the division, but only few are used.

Melina won the title only one month ago at Summerslam. But at NOC, she lost to Michelle McCool. Now she might find herself in a new feud. She could pair with John Morrison. What do you think?

I was hoping that this match could create some future feuds with all the Divas being outside. But still, the match was good.

As for Laycool, I'll try to summarize my thoughts about them.

We all witnessed Trish Stratus Era when she was amazingly given the Women's Championship on seven different occasions, despite having other talented Divas like Lita, Victoria, Molly Holly and Jazz. Since then, many Divas had their time and nearly made it to Trish record just to fail in the end.

Mickie James had some numerous title reigns, and I for one thought she was about to surpass Stratus in her reigns.

Melina and Beth Phoenix had their time too, and Melina could still win more titles in the future, given how talented she is. So can Phoenix once she returns.

This leaves us with Michelle McCool. The "Dead Woman" or Mrs. Taker (no pun intended) is the only Diva who has been on an amazing run ever since she was pushed.

She went on beating every Diva standing before her in the last two years. The only time she felt short was against Maryse, but that was done in order to legitimize her heel turn.

McCool became the inaugural Divas Champion two years ago. She was also the first Diva to win both the Divas and Women's Championships.

She was able to hold the Women's Title twice. Even when Layla pinned Phoenix, she had to share her title rein with McCool, but I'm not sure if this counts in her resume.

Now, McCool is the first ever Unified Divas Champion. She inserted herself in NOC match despite not being the legit champion after fooling her partner, Layla.

However, Layla still helped her partner for the win despite being fooled by her. McCool was even ranked first in PWI's top 50 women wrestlers.

With all these victories and Championships, it's fair to say that Michelle McCool is on a monstrous run, and if she continues this way, Trish Stratus could find her way stepping down for McTaker to take her place.

Now I assume that Michelle McCool might face Melina in a rematch either on RAW or Smackdown, or at Hell in a Cell. Then, I think Laycool should just split and feud for the rest of the year.

So what do you think? Will McCool share her new title with Layla like the latter stupidly did during her title reign? If yes, then I think that Theodre Long will interfere and say that only one should hold the title, which could lead to a feud. McCool might also refuse to share her title with Layla, which could also lead to a feud.

As for the rest of the Divas, only time will tell what's next for them.

What's Next For Kofi Kingston?

5 of 14

After competing in seven matches against Dolph Ziggler, and losing his Intercontinental Championship to him, it seems that Kofi Kingston's chances for another rematch are over by now.

He could still face him for another match but I doubt it. Ziggler was able to win cleanly after several unclean finishes in the previous matches, and it would be ridiculous to give Kingston another rematch.

So what's next for Kingston? Will he aim at the bigger prize? I don't think so. At least not right now.

Will he form his own tag team and feud for the tag team titles? Don't be surprised if this happens. You know how WWE deal with tag teams these days.

Will he feud in non-title matches for some months? This could be the obvious choice. Smackdown is full of heels like Jack Swagger, Drew McIntyre, Cody Rhodes, Albert Del Rio and CM Punk.

I know most of these superstars are already in various feuds, but Cody or Drew could feud with him. Big Show could even join him and form a team. Or he could feud with CM Punk, since the latter might not be in any feud. Edge could feud with him too if he moves to Smackdown.

However, my main concern about Kingston is his status. Will he stay as a high mid-card waiting for his time to shine?

I'm sure he won't go down, but only time will tell.

What's Next For The Intercontinental Champion? A New Love Triangle Story?

6 of 14

Assuming that his feud with Kofi Kingston is over by now, Dolph Ziggler might having some hard time coming to him in the near future.

Though he didn't really need Vickie Guerrero to win, but she was still involved at ringside. Furthermore, and as I predicted, Kaitlyn was there too.

For the second time, Vickie showed some jealousy towards Kaitlyn when she saw her involved with Ziggler. Could this be the shape of the coming storyline?

Edge's infamous relation with Vickie Guerrero had some similar angles when Alicia Fox was involved. Will Ziggler go in a similar role to Edge?

Of course, this storyline won't run without a feud, unless WWE want us to watch a romantic movie. So Ziggler should expect a new contender waiting for his chance to grab the prestigious title. But who will this superstar be?

If you read the previous slides you'll know that Big Show is the superstar who I expect to be the next contender.

However, even if it might be ridiculous for them to fight for the eighth time, but never count Kingston out.

So what's next for Ziggler? Will he find himself in a jealousy story? Will this affect him and even cost him the title in the future?

Finally, I'll have to say that the Intercontinental Championship has gained some prestige again after being misused for a while.

Is This a New Era For Daniel Bryan? Will The US Title Be Used Better Now?

7 of 14

Daniel Bryan can celebrate his superb victory against his mentor, the Miz. He has been looking good ever since he returned to RAW, and he definitely deserved the win and the title.

Probably, he'll feud with Miz until Hell in a Cell. Or Miz might demand an immediate rematch on RAW. Whatever happens, I hope Bryan wins.

So if Bryan wins, who will be his next contender? There are few heels on RAW only. Will it be Ted Dibiase? Or will it be Edge?

Will Bryan add some prestige to the US Title again? We all know that the booking of the US Title has been very horrible this year. It was even worse than the tag-team titles at a certain point.

Miz held the title for months but barely defended it. He only fought for it after losing it to R-Truth before regain it again. Let's hope that this changes now.

What does the future hold for Bryan after his current title reign ends. The history of the US Title shows that many wrestlers did hold this title but never achieved bigger things. MVP, Carlito and Shelton Benjamin are examples. Will Daniel Bryan fate the same fate? I don't think so.

I'm not trying to say that all former US Champions never achieved bigger things. Just look at John Cena. I'm only saying that the US Title might not be considered a big thing today. But still, his victory was amazing.

Daniel Bryan is one of the best competitors right now, and he'll sure have Big Time moments in the near future. WWE are sure high on him.

Only time will tell.

What's Next For Miz-Ter Money In The Bank?

8 of 14

Again I say, as long as Miz holds the briefcase, we should always expect him to cash it in anytime the WWE Champion is in the ring. So don't count him out on RAW or Hell in a Cell.

Don't just think that WWE will legitimize him as a credible contender before making him cash it in, because I don't think that WWE thinks this way. Jack Swagger was looking like a joke before he cashed in his contract against Chris Jericho.

I'll have to say that his loss against Bryan was a bit humiliating, and I'm glad that he didn't cash in his contract at the end of the six pack elimination match. Had he cashed it in and won, it would have been the worst thing to happen.

I wouldn't have been able to buy him as a World Champion directly after such an embarrassing loss. Again, I know that WWE never thinks about this way, but I'm glad they didn't make this happen.

Obviously, he still has a rematch against Daniel Bryan for the US Title. This could happen on RAW or at Hell in a Cell.

Though his loss might be bad, but Miz still has a briefcase that can guarantee him a potential WWE Championship in the future.

It seems WWE are trying to make us forget about his briefcase so that they can make it unexpected and surprising when it happens. Sorry, WWE. As long as he has the contract, I'll never forget about it, and I'll always expect to see him cash it in.

So what's next for Miz? When will he cash in his contract? Will Alex Riley stay with him at ringside? Will he help him win the US Title again and then win the WWE Title?

Many possibilities can come to our mind.

Will Kane Continue To Show Dominance? Or Will Undertaker Retaliate?

9 of 14

Unlike many people who think that watching two superstars who are above 40 years old was boring, I say that for wrestlers who are above 40, this was a good match. Kane was looking good, and so was Undertaker.

Kane dominated his brother in most parts of the match, even though Taker never gave up and did try to stay on his feet. He showed that he was still good. But that was the Champion's night, and he was able to win in the end. No one has ever dominated Undertaker like this.

All predictions went for Kane to win at NOC. It was obvious from the way he dominated Taker in every single encounter between them that he was going to come out victorious.

However, NOC is over, and many predictions are now going in a different direction. Most people here are anticipating Undertaker to win at HIAC. This feud might go on till Bragging Rights.

Undertaker was trying to sell his injury during his promos, but I'm glad he still looked good during the match. Of Course he's not the same like before, but never count Undertaker out. I hope members here can just give him a break and stop criticizing him and asking him to retire.

As for Kane, this is arguably the best moment of his career. Enough said.

Undertaker could win at HIAC and make this feud go on till BR.

Do you think Taker can win? Or do you think Kane will pick up another victory?

Will this story go in a different way? Kane might win and take his brother away for some time.

What if WWE decided to add a new member to the feud? What if Kane received help from Nexus? This would lead to completely different results.

I won't read into things a lot and I'll just say that this feud will go on till BR or Survivor Series where Taker finally prevails.

Randy Orton Is The New WWE Champion: What's Next For The Other Contenders?

10 of 14

Randy Orton is now the WWE champion. I'll talk about him in the next slide.

There were other five contenders in the match. What's next for them?

Chris Jericho: Unfortunately for all Jerichoholics here, this might be the last match for Chris Jericho in WWE for a while. All rumors said that he won't be available on RAW tonight, and he said this on his Twitter. That wasn't a great way for Jericho to leave. His elimination was very fast. Let's hope he returns in few months.

Wade Barret: Wade Barret had the honor of eliminating John Cena during the match after some help from Nexus. However, he wasn't able to go on till the end. It's obvious that he will be feuding with John Cena alongside Nexus. But I think that Nexus are not helping anymore.

Edge: Ultimately, the he "Ultimate Opportunist" is not in his best days. Though he was part of most of the main-events, but he was the only one who had no story. All rumors are saying that he'll be going to Smackdown when it moves to Syfy.

If this happens, I think he could feud with Kofi Kingston, Big Show or even Christian. If he won't leave RAW, then I hope he feuds with John Morrison or Daniel Bryan.

John Cena: Cena didn't win. Are you happy, IWC? Cena didn't bury anyone here, and he did the job to Wade Barret. He has been the main target for Nexus for months now. With his loss, it's obvious that he'll go on to feud with Barret.

Sheamus: Nothing much to say about him. I'm sure he'll face Orton at HIAC. But will he win? Whether he wins or loses, his next feud will be against a returning Triple H.

Has The Age Of Orton Begun?

11 of 14
Age of Orton?
Age of Orton?

After month of struggling and dominating in feuds before ultimately losing, Randy Orton was able to win the WWE Championship making him a seven-time World Champion.

Orton's victory was impressive to say the least. Not only he lasted till the end and ultimately won, but he also eliminated three superstars by himself.

After the end of Summerslam, RAW's anonymous GM announced the six pack challenge match for NOC. Since then, Orton had been the only dominant superstar in every single angle involving the other contenders. He went on delivering RKO's to everybody in sight. He was always the only man standing at the end of each RAW episode.

John Cena might be the face of WWE for now. But all people are predicitng that Orton might be the next face of the organization. With such a hot run and great victory, he's sure on the right track.

He'll sure face Sheamus for the title at HIAC. Will he win? Will he go on as the dominant force on RAW? Or will Sheamus shock the world and break Orton's fans heart and regain the WWE Title? Will WWE make Sheamus win so that he can feud with Triple H while holding the title?

I doubt that Orton will lose at HIAC, but anything can happen.

What if Orton wins just to lose to Miz?

A lot of things can be said about this, but right now you can live the age of Orton.

Will this age live? Will it go on for a while? Are we living the golden age of Orton? Or is this just another short reign that will end in few weeks?

In other words, has the Age of Orton begun?

When Will Nexus End? Are They Still Helping?

12 of 14
Nexus means trouble
Nexus means trouble

As we all predicted, Nexus made their presence felt at the six pack elimination match. They helped Barret eliminate John Cena, but failed to make him stay till the end.

With all their good and bad, we can say that Nexus was an interesting story. They did mess things up, but they sure brought a lot of action to RAW.

However, I don't feel they're helping anymore. They never benefited Barret in his match other than Cena elimination.

Though they attacked many superstars on RAW, but they always set Cena as their main target, and it was even obvious at NOC. Why do you think he's their main target?

How long will Nexus go on? When will they end? How will they end? Will they stay together and hold titles? I don't think so, especially after Barret's loss.

Which member has a bright future besides Barret?

Will Nexus help Barret in his feud with Cena? Or will Cena destroy the group? Does the group have a mastermind? Could it be Kane? I'm not sure.

Many things to predict for this group.

Which Non-Title Feuds Will Return?

13 of 14

Night of Champions is PPV where every champion should defend his/her title. And due to this stipulation, many superstars weren't part of this PPV, even though they had their own running feuds.

NOC is now over. So you should look forward to some feuds that will definitely produce matches at Hell in a Cell.

Christian vs. Alberto Del Rio: That's a hot feud running on Smackdown. As much as I hate the fact that Christian is probably putting Alberto over in this feud, but I'm glad to see him get more time on TV. He receives huge pops every time he makes his entrance.

The good thing for Christian is the fact that he wasn't just thrown in a match with Del Rio, and instead, he's running a long feud with him. As for Del Rio, nothing much to say. The guy is paving his way to the stars.

Jack Swagger vs. MVP: Not the best feud here, and I doubt they face off at HIAC.

Ted Dibiase w/Maryse vs. John Morrison w/... Melina? I don't think that this match will occur at HIAC. Melina might face Michelle McCool in a rematch. If she loses, she might have nothing to do.

Morrison was able to defeat Dibiase in NOC dark match. Could Melina join Morrison in this feud?

Final Thoughts and Possible Matches at HIAC

14 of 14

NOC is now in history books, and that is the only PPV where you might see all titles defended. Sure many PPVs can have all title matches in it, but this rarely happens now. As Hell in a Cell draws closer, you should expect to miss some title matches in it so that they allow non-title matches to take place.

Here are some of the possible matches we might see at HIAC:

Kane (c) vs. Undertaker (Hell in a Cell match for the World Heavywiehgt Championship)

Randy Orton (c) vs. Sheamus (Hell in a Cell match for the WWE Championship)

John Cena vs. Wade Barret

Alberto Del Rio vs. Christian

Miz vs. Daniel Bryan (c) (They might face on RAW instead)

Michelle McCool vs. Melina (I doubt it)

All thoughts and comments are welcome.
