Week 2: Washington Redskins Cough One Up To The Houston Texans

Brandon KeenerSep 20, 2010

Alright then. Now that it is over an all of the sports writers across America begin clacking away at their keyboards, I wanna let everyone know that in my prediction article I called for the Redskins to lose by three. Granted I was a little bit meager on the score in my prediction I did not think the score to explode like it did.

In my preview article I explained how I felt that Matt Schaub is an overlooked passer in the NFL. He often gets left out of the conversation when you are talking about the leagues best. Both quarterbacks passed for over 400 yards each, the first time that has happened since 1994.

The game was a total aerial assault and one that most football fans love to see. Big catches, short pounding runs, and a good day for someone who stole these guys on their fantasy rosters.

Who called it to watch out for Jacoby Jones?

Redskin fans know what it feels like to see them hold a decent lead in the second half only to let it slip away. Remind you of a time not too far gone? I know every team has problems with letting one slip but it seems to have become a mantra in Washington.

That's OK. The Redskins are 1-1. They lost to a team that just beat the Indianapolis Colts who were stomping the Redskins NFC East rival Giants the last time I checked. Don't worry, be happy the Skins are losing close games to good teams. Yes, I just called the Houston Texans a good team. Let's face it. They are a good team.

OK, without further adieu I would like to move right along to my GameDay Grades. This is the section people agree or disagree heavily. Feel free to chime in what you think.

QB: A. Over 400 yards passing, a TD, and no INT. Textbook. Bye.

RB: C+. You're probably screaming by now. Portis averaged 2.5 yards per carry. Seriously? Yes he did score two touchdowns but that is all he did. It took the passing game to get him there.

FB: B. Average game, blocking was good.

WR: B+. Let's face it. I could have caught passes from McNabb tonight he was throwing so good. But I congratulate you Mr. Galloway for showing your speed burst once again.

TE: A. Cooley is the prototype tight end. I said it before and I'll said it again. He is good.

OL: B. This would be higher if the holes for running were bigger and Mario Williams did not get 3.0 sacks.

DL: C. Not enough pressure. Wait! Where was Haynesworth? Oh this must of been one of his scheduled off days.

LB: B. Orakpo was still getting held but he still managed a sack. The rest did an okay job.

CB: B. Other than getting picked apart all day they did a pretty good job. This is only so high because of Carlos Rogers' strong play and actually holding on to the ball this time.

S: A. Reed and LaRon, yeah we're on first name basis, played like crazy. The unfortunate thing is when both of your safeties are your leading tacklers. That generally means the play is progressing too far.

K: D. I am really pulling for Graham Gano. If he had made one of the two he missed that game would have never of seen OT and I would be writing a completely different article. I think he'll bounce back.

P: B+. Hey! A good game from Josh Bidwell, this would have been an A if he'd gotten one or two inside the 20.

Return game: B. I'm still seeing good things from Devin Thomas. Averaging 22.0 yards per return is pretty good for anyone's standards.

Coaching: C+. Offense did pretty good keeping pace. Defense got too comfortable.

Overall: B. Not horrible, not great. The Skins made a really good team sweat and earn it today.

So I wish things were different and I was writing about another exciting win but of course on any given Sunday anything can happen. This Sunday the Redskins blew a good size lead and lost in overtime.

I look forward to some of the comments on this one.

Hail to the Redskins!
