NFL Week 2 Recap: Vince Young, Brett Favre, and Other QBs Who Cost Teams a Win
The quarterback is the most important position on a football team, and with that, they receive the most praise with a victory. And the majority of the blame when they perform poorly.
Week 2 of the NFL season was a prime example of how bad things can get for a QB who has a bad game.
Vince Young and Matt Moore both were taken out of their respective games and a few other QBs had performances where they probably should have been benched.
Unlike Matt Schaub and Donovan McNabb—who both had tremendous games passing for well over 400 yards—these are the QBs who will want to forget their performance today.
Matt Moore
1 of 5
The Matt Moore Era didn't even last a full two games. Moore was so bad against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers that rookie QB Jimmy Clausen was summoned in the fourth quarter to try to lead Carolina back.
After throwing three red-zone interceptions a week ago in a 31-18 loss to the New York Giants, Moore followed it up with two more turnovers.
The Panthers thought that getting rid of turnover-prone Jake Delhomme would be the answer to their quarterback woes, but Moore has been worse through two games.
What's been so surprising is how inaccurate he has been. On Sunday, he completed just six of his 18 pass attempts and badly overthrew David Gettis, who would have walked into the end zone for a touchdown if the pass would have been on the mark.
Clausen will likely get the start next week and barring injury, the rest of the season. Many in the Carolinas had high hopes for Moore; it just hasn't worked out thus far.
Vince Young

You think Vince Young is tired of being jerked around by Jeff Fisher?
After being pulled in favor of Kerry Collins against the Pittsburgh Steelers, Young probably had flashbacks of a couple years ago when the same scenario took place.
This time, Young's job as the starting QB isn't in jeopardy. At least not at the moment.
Young threw just three errant passes against Pittsburgh on Sunday, the problem was that two of those three were interceptions.
While it was a bad game by the former Texas Longhorn, it had more to do with the Steeler defense than anything.
Chris Johnson couldn't find any running room, which made it even more difficult for Young to find any open receivers.
Chalk this game up as an aberration for the Titans. They'll still be a dangerous team despite a disappointing home loss.
Joe Flacco
3 of 5
Riding the momentum of an impressive Monday Night Football win over the New York Jets didn't matter against the Cincinnati Bengals.
Joe Flacco threw four crucial interceptions in a five-point loss. Knowing you gave the ball away four times in such a close game will make it hard to fall asleep at night.
Flacco completed 17 of 39 passes for 154 yards, which comes out to a 3.8 average per attempt.
Baltimore was hoping its quarterback had turned a corner this season and through the first two games, the results are mixed.
Luckily for Flacco, the season isn't decided in Week 2. This is a big season for the third-year QB, and with Super Bowl expectations, the pressure is larger than ever.
David Garrard
4 of 5
The normally efficient David Garrard didn't take care of the football at all against the San Diego Chargers.
Garrard threw four interceptions, and like Moore and Young, the Jaguar QB was benched in favor of Luke McCown.
It wasn't like Garrard was the only problem for the Jags, who were blown out 38-13. But he killed any chance of the offense getting into any rhythm by making bad decisions.
Who knows how good the Jaguars will be this year, but more performances like this from its starting QB certainly won't help.
Brett Favre
5 of 5
Brett Favre couldn't have played a worse game if he tried against the Miami Dolphins.
Not only did he fumble in the end zone leading to a touchdown for Miami, but he also threw three interceptions that brought back memories of his days with the Jets.
Despite his poor play, the Dolphins were a goal-line stand from losing.
It's clear that Favre is missing Sidney Rice, and even if the Vikings pull the trigger on the trade for Vincent Jackson, he will still have to sit out four games.
Immediate help won't be on the way for No. 4 and it seems that the Vikings will have to rely even more on Adrian Peterson than they already are.
With last season well behind us, Favre's good grace he built up with Minnesota fans a year ago will quickly fade if he continues to turn the ball over.
Favre's farewell tour may end up ugly judging by the first two games.
